Chapter 171: The Three Lin Brothers
Ye Ziming’s biological father, Ye Mingxu, was a forty-year-old middle-aged man. Just like his son, he often trained, so he had a very fit body. He spent most of his time either in the office or attending meetings, yet he still managed to keep a flat stomach, which was quite impressive.
Ye Mingxu had just come home. He was wearing a suit, holding a black briefcase in one hand, and had a watch on his wrist (though the brand was hard to tell).
When Lin Muqing saw him for the first time, she thought he looked like a typical successful middle-aged man, but with a hint of tiredness.
"Boss, time to eat."
When Father Ye appeared, Lin Muqing suddenly felt nervous. She wanted to step forward and greet him, but didn’t know how to do it politely. And at that moment, Mother Ye (Li Muning) was whispering something to him, so she didn’t want to interrupt. All she could do was quietly call out to her best friend.
"It’s okay, don’t be nervous."
Ye Ziming came to her side, patted her head, and gently comforted her.
He knew his parents well. As long as Lin Muqing could win over his mom, it basically meant she had already passed the test. After all, his mom was famous for being a “wife-doting maniac” in the industry. It wasn’t a title people just randomly gave her.
"I-I'm not nervous!"
Lin Muqing stubbornly denied it, lowering her head guiltily. Then she quickly turned around and went back to the kitchen to serve the rice.
"Mm~"
Smiling and nodding, Ye Ziming didn’t call her out. He followed her into the kitchen, washed his hands, and helped out a little. Honestly, it was a bit strange, but the more nervous Lin Muqing acted in front of his family, the happier he felt.
Because she cared, she got nervous, even overly anxious sometimes.
Like now, even though she was clearly nervous, she tried hard to act like everything was fine.
"With me here, everything will be alright."
As she carried two bowls of rice out of the kitchen, Ye Ziming stayed close to her and even stepped out ahead of her, doing little things to help ease her stress so she wouldn’t feel so tense.
Lin Muqing glanced at her good buddy with complicated emotions. She was a bit touched by how much he looked after her.
Meanwhile, Meng Yue quietly stood to the side, smiling as she observed her precious daughter, ready to step in and help if needed. But from the looks of it, Lin Muqing didn’t need any outside help just yet, she could handle it.
Once everything was ready and it was time to sit down for dinner, Mother Ye brought Father Ye to the table.
"Uncle."
As she sat down, Lin Muqing carefully greeted him, clearly still a little nervous. Unlike her, Father Ye kept a gentle smile on his face, showing a calm and steady presence only middle-aged men could have.
"Mm, you’re Lin Muqing, right?"
Looking at the girl in front of him, and remembering what his wife had just said to him, Father Ye nodded with a satisfied look in his eyes. Since his wife liked this girl so much, he didn’t think he needed to say much. He completely trusted her judgment.
"Mm-hmm."
Nodding, Lin Muqing snuck a glance at her best friend beside her. She felt like she had just passed a major level.
Father Ye’s smile was very warm, and he seemed easy to get along with. After holding eye contact for a bit, Lin Muqing wasn’t as nervous anymore.
"You just got off the plane and probably didn’t eat much yet. Come try the food our daughter-in-law made."
Mother Ye smiled, looked at her husband, then at her daughter-in-law. She picked up her chopsticks and placed a bite of food onto Father Ye’s plate.
That one simple sentence not only helped Lin Muqing calm down and got everyone to start eating, but also led to a new topic.
While they were cooking, Meng Yue had actually just stood nearby giving instructions. The one who did most of the cooking was Lin Muqing.
Meng Yue had a little plan in mind, by doing this, her daughter-in-law would look good in front of others. And it really worked! Mother Ye immediately started praising Lin Muqing, and Father Ye, sitting beside her, just nodded along.
His expression clearly said, “My wife is right. My wife is always right.”
Even Lin Muqing could see the deep affection in his eyes. It was so obvious it was almost scary.
Thinking about this, she quietly turned her head and looked at her best friend beside her.
She thought to herself, ‘My bro is so much like Uncle Ye. Will he also spoil his wife like that in the future? And who will his wife be? It can’t be me, right? I mean... we’re just best bros!’
“The password for my room’s computer is ( ). If you want to play, go ahead.”
After dinner, Ye Ziming came over and said that to Lin Muqing before going upstairs with Father Ye.
Lin Muqing could tell they had something to talk about, so she didn’t ask any questions and simply went to clean up the table.
“Auntie, I think someone’s knocking at the door.”
Just as she finished wiping the table, Lin Muqing noticed a knocking sound coming from the front door.
But it was kind of far away, and with the sound of running water and dishes being washed in the kitchen, you might not notice the knock unless you were paying close attention.
So Lin Muqing walked to the kitchen door and gave a quick reminder to Ye’s mother, who was washing the dishes.
“It’s probably the delivery guy. Can you help me get it?”
In the kitchen, the two women were chatting and laughing as they washed dishes together. When Ye’s mother heard Lin Muqing’s voice, she thought for a moment and smiled, replying,
“Oh, okay.”
Since both of them were busy and couldn’t go, Lin Muqing didn’t think too much about it. She put down the dishcloth and headed to the door.
Soon, she arrived and opened the door.
What she saw next surprised her, three men were standing outside, lined up side by side. The man in the middle looked the oldest and was holding a gift box with both hands.
All three men froze for a second. They were clearly shocked.
There was a girl at the Ye house, a girl they didn’t know, wearing home clothes and looking totally calm and natural!
“Um, hi. Are you here to deliver a package?”
Even though they didn’t look like delivery guys at all, Lin Muqing still asked politely.
“Do we look like delivery guys to you?”
The man holding the gift box frowned and asked her back with a complicated look on his face.
These three were actually the Lin family's three brothers, Meng Yue’s sons.
They were here with the gift box to try to win their mom’s favor and follow their dad’s orders to bring her back home.
Here’s what happened:
Earlier that morning, their dad had come back from a business trip and found out that their mom had left home because her three foolish sons had upset her. He was furious and said,
“If she doesn’t come home, then none of you are allowed back either!”
Then he kicked all three of them out of the house, so fast that they didn’t even get to eat lunch.
“Um… are you here with a food delivery, then?”
Lin Muqing didn’t really want to ask this either, because she knew they didn’t look like food delivery guys.
But the three of them were just staring at her without saying anything.
They didn’t introduce themselves or explain why they were there.
So she simply asked again. After all, she wasn’t the one feeling awkward.
