Chapter 377: Grandpa
An Han walked behind her mother with a completely hopeless look on her face. The three of them walked along the sidewalk toward her grandpa’s house.
They had to walk for half an hour.
In fact, taking a taxi would only take ten minutes and wasn’t expensive at all, but her mother insisted on saving a few dollars.
She could have ridden the electric scooter to send An Han first and let Su Peng walk by himself… but no.
“My feet hurt…”
Hearing her complain, Su Peng looked surprised. After glancing at his future mother-in-law, he quickly walked closer.
“Why do your feet hurt? We haven’t walked very far.”
“These shoes don’t fit well,” An Han said.
Seeing that someone was listening to her, she complained even more, sounding almost like she was acting cute.
“They look nice, but they squeeze my toes. They’re not as comfortable as my sneakers.”
“Then should we go back and change?” Su Peng asked.
“We’ve already walked so far.”
Seeing there were not many people around, she bent down, stretched her leg, and pulled up her long socks.
“They keep slipping down… no wonder people don’t like wearing them.”
Su Peng quickly turned his head away, but out of the corner of his eye, he still looked at her long legs in stockings.
An Han’s eyes rolled playfully. She looked at her mother walking ahead, who was completely ignoring them, then hooked her arm around Su Peng’s shoulder and smiled mischievously.
“Carry me on your back?”
“Well…” Su Peng hesitated.
“There aren’t many people on this road. What are you shy about~?”
It wasn’t shyness. He was worried he might not be allowed into her house later.
While Su Peng was still hesitating, An Han had already moved behind him. She grabbed his shoulders and tried to jump onto his back.
“Be careful,” he said.
“Then squat down a little.”
With no choice, he bent down slightly. An Han immediately jumped onto his back, wrapping her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist.
Her soft body pressed tightly against his back. Su Peng quickly held her thighs to keep her steady. The smooth feeling of her stockings and her scent almost made him lose control.
Luckily, he glanced at his future mother-in-law walking ahead and forced himself to calm down. One wrong move, and his future happiness would be over.
Standing up straight, An Han giggled quietly on his back. Su Peng turned his head and glared at her, then deliberately kept some distance from her mother so their conversation wouldn’t be heard.
“You used to run several kilometers at night. Now you complain after walking a few hundred meters.”
“I already said the shoes hurt~”
An Han hugged his neck, her ear close to his face, smiling with eyes curved like a crescent moon.
Her clearly happy tone made Su Peng sure she was doing this on purpose.
The longer they were together, the more she liked acting like a little girl in front of him. Su Peng didn’t mind, but he worried that their closeness would upset his future mother-in-law.
After walking only a short distance, her mother turned around and glanced back at them.
An Han didn’t notice at all. She kept teasing Su Peng, blowing softly near his ear or pinching his cheek.
Su Peng noticed his mother’s gaze and stiffened. Even his smile froze.
“Hey, Su Peng, I want milk tea.” An Han saw a milk tea shop along the street and pointed at it. “Hurry up, let’s go!”
“Uh…”
Her mother silently stared at Su Peng. He could only grit his teeth, ignore the sharp look, and carry An Han toward the milk tea shop.
“I feel like you’re trying to get me killed,” he muttered.
“How is that?” An Han said confidently. “If we act close, my mom will think our relationship is really good.”
“Isn’t that the truth?”
“If we don’t show it, how would she know?”
When they reached the milk tea shop, An Han noticed the staff giving them a strange look. She quickly got off Su Peng’s back, put on a serious face, and pretended nothing had happened as she walked up to order two cups of milk green tea.
After getting their drinks, she stopped causing trouble and behaved properly. She followed her mother toward her grandpa’s house. After about half an hour, her grandpa’s home finally came into view.
There was a sedan parked in front of the house. From far away, An Han looked at it for a moment, then tugged on Su Peng’s sleeve in surprise.
“Isn’t this the car you drove the last time you came to my house?”
“Yeah.”
“Then your parents are already here!”
An Han quickly pulled at her clothes and skirt, smoothing out the wrinkles. She opened her phone’s selfie camera to check if her hair was messy from all the earlier teasing.
“Here, a comb.”
Su Peng took her small comb out of his shoulder bag.
“My hair is still too short…” An Han muttered.
She had never been very happy with her short hair.
In fact, her hair was growing quite fast. In just half a year, hair that used to be shorter than her ears now covered her neck.
When her bangs were straightened, they could cover her whole face. To keep them from blocking her view, she had to clip them to the side.
“You could get your hair permed someday,” Su Peng said.
“No, I want to grow it longer.”
“Then marry me when your hair reaches your waist?”
“Tch~ dream on!” An Han rolled her eyes at him.
Before they could say much more, they had already reached her grandpa’s door.
Her mother went inside first. An Han peeked inside, looking around at the people in the room. Su Peng’s parents, her cousin Wu Hao, her own mother, and finally her eyes stopped on an unfamiliar old man.
That old man looked about ten years older than her grandpa. He had age spots on his face, gray hair, and a thin, frail body.
“Grandpa!” Su Peng entered the room and greeted him first.
An Han didn’t know how to address him, so she followed behind Su Peng and shyly said, “Hello, Grandpa…”
“You’ve lost weight. You really are his grandson,” her grandpa said happily, taking out the photos he had shown An Han before. “Look, he used to be chubby and strong. He looked much better then. Why is he so thin now?”
“Being too fat isn’t healthy either,” the old grandpa said with a smile.
He looked at An Han more and more approvingly. “Your granddaughter is very pretty. Handsome man, beautiful girl. A good match. Very suitable.”
An Han forced herself to hold back her embarrassment. She lowered her head and let her eyes wander around.
Soon, she noticed Su Peng’s parents sitting stiffly to the side. The aunt and uncle who once acted so confident at the rental place were now quiet and nervous. Just as Su Peng said, his grandpa was the one in charge.
“What a coincidence,” one of the old men laughed. “Back then I introduced my little sister to you, and you didn’t want her. Now we’re still becoming in-laws.”
“That’s different. If I married your sister, I’d have to call you my big brother-in-law.”
The two old men chatted happily, talking about their younger days and praising the two young people in front of them.
An Han rarely saw her grandpa this happy. He drank one cup of white liquor after another, making her feel nervous watching him.
By the way, that bottle of Maotai liquor seemed to be the same one Su Peng had secretly taken from his home, given to An Han’s father, and then passed on to her grandpa.
