Chapter 43: That Shameless Woman Won’t Give Up!
Something was definitely off with Chen Cheng and An Yuan today.
Normally, that green tea girl would cling to An Yuan all day, sticking to him after class like glue. If An Yuan went to play basketball, she’d put on a miserable face, acting as if she couldn’t survive without a man by her side.
But today, Chen Cheng stayed in her seat the entire time. Even when An Yuan tried to talk to her, her responses were noticeably colder. Whenever she glanced at him, she would quickly look away.
Li Wanyi rested her chin on her hands, silently observing everything happening in class.
Did they have a fight?
If they did… doesn’t that mean she has another chance?
The bell rang, and the classroom instantly erupted into chaos.
As soon as the teacher dismissed them, the room turned into a bustling marketplace. Students cheered as if they were about to tear the ceiling off, scrambling toward the door like a horde of zombies, afraid they wouldn’t get to the cafeteria in time to grab the best food.
But Chen Cheng sat still, unfazed, as if lunch break had nothing to do with her. She just kept her head down, working on her homework.
Li Wanyi watched as An Yuan walked up to Chen Cheng, only to leave alone moments later. Her suspicion grew stronger.
Excited, she immediately stood up, put on her most gentle and friendly smile, and gracefully walked over to Chen Cheng’s side before casually sitting down.
"???"
Chen Cheng looked at the unwelcome guest beside her in confusion.
What the hell?
She instinctively shifted away, eyeing Li Wanyi with suspicion. "What do you want?"
Chen Cheng wasn’t the type to forget grudges. She still remembered how Li Wanyi had cornered her in the restroom to yell at her, and she could recall every single person who had bullied her in elementary school.
"Did you have a fight with An Yuan?" Li Wanyi asked with fake concern.
"No."
"An Yuan has a good temper. If you argued, just apologize, and everything will be fine. If that doesn’t work, just cry a little in front of him."
Ah, that explains why An Yuan always tolerates his fiancée, even when she's cheating on him, and lets her control him completely.
Chen Cheng was starting to get the picture. Was Li Wanyi still not over An Yuan?
"I already told you, we didn’t fight."
She kept her head down and continued working, keeping her tone indifferent.
The real reason she was acting distant toward An Yuan today… was because she had just realized something horrifying.
This body, the body of a woman, was actually attracted to An Yuan!
That was terrifying. Emotionally, she absolutely could not accept it!
Even though she knew it was just physical instinct, even though she knew An Yuan was sometimes attracted to her too, having inappropriate thoughts about her own best friend was pure nightmare fuel.
No wonder An Yuan kept wanting a girlfriend… but there was no way in hell she was going to find a boyfriend.
"Then why are you eating alone? Aren’t you going to have lunch with An Yuan?"
"None of your damn business."
Li Wanyi’s smile twitched for a moment before she let out a huff and walked away.
"That damn woman..." Chen Cheng frowned as she watched her leave the classroom.
She had just wanted to keep some distance from An Yuan for a while, but she never expected Li Wanyi to jump at the chance to worm her way back into his life.
Does this woman ever give up?! Is An Yuan really that attractive?
…Actually, yeah. He kind of is. A lot, even.
Even Li Wanyi could tell that Chen Cheng’s attitude had changed, so of course, An Yuan had noticed it too.
Did he do something to piss her off?
Was he making Chen Cheng feel distant just because he didn’t want her involved in his love life? But hadn’t he promised not to date anyone?
As he stood in line at the cafeteria, waiting to buy lunch, An Yuan pondered Chen Cheng’s behavior, completely puzzled.
Maybe it was best to just text her and ask.
Chen Cheng wasn’t the most open person, she liked keeping things to herself. But online, she was a little more willing to talk.
After ordering a meal with two meat dishes and one vegetable, An Yuan carried his tray to his friends and sat down. He pulled out his phone, ready to type a message to Chen Cheng.
"Hey An Yuan, who are you texting?"
Ah Qiang, sitting next to him, leaned over to peek. An Yuan instinctively tilted his phone downward to hide the screen.
"What’s with the secrecy? Who is it?"
"Who else? It’s gotta be Chen Cheng."
"Damn, you secretly won over the school belle, and even got her to give you a massage at the internet cafe. You're living the dream~”
"Hey, how far have you two gotten?"
His friends immediately started teasing him. An Yuan patiently explained, "Chen Cheng and I are just childhood friends. We haven’t even held hands."
The usual casual grabbing and pulling didn’t count. He meant holding hands for real, fingers interlocked.
"Childhood friends? That’s called childhood sweethearts!"
"Wait, you haven’t even held hands? Are you serious? You two are way too slow!"
Childhood sweethearts, huh?
An Yuan was thinking, if his childhood friend suddenly becomes a girl, would that be considered a 'childhood sweetheart' trope or a 'love suddenly falling from the sky' kind of thing?
He didn’t mind the teasing. In fact, he kind of enjoyed it.
"Alright, alright, can we eat without all the nonsense?"
He rolled his eyes at them, but to his surprise, his friends immediately shut up. They exchanged glances, looking at something behind him with a weird expression.
He paused, then turned around—
Li Wanyi was standing behind him, smiling sweetly, her hands tucked behind her back.
"What do you want?" An Yuan asked, his face expressionless.
Unlike Chen Cheng, his friends weren’t the jealous type. They wordlessly picked up their trays and left, as if giving him space.
Once they were gone, Li Wanyi pouted, her lips pink and glossy as she sat down beside him with a pitiful look. "I’m sorry, okay~?"
This scene again?!
An Yuan’s eye twitched. His expression darkened.
"You should be apologizing to Chen Cheng. You scared her."
"I tried! But she ignored me."
As Li Wanyi spoke, she carefully watched An Yuan’s reaction. Then, taking a bold step, she secretly reached out to grab his arm—
"Oh hell no! An Yuan!"
But before she could touch him, another hand grabbed him first, pulling him quickly.
Chen Cheng stood there like a fierce mother hen, clutching An Yuan’s arm tightly and stepping protectively in front of him. Her eyes glared at Li Wanyi with pure hostility.
"She’s pulling the pity act again! Hurry up and remember all the crap she’s done before!"
To be honest, An Yuan couldn’t recall any specific bad things about his ex-fiancée at the moment. His mind was completely occupied by the soft, full shape pressing against his arm. They were surprisingly quite big, soft, and very firm.
Li Wanyi blinked rapidly, trying to squeeze out some tears to look even more pitiful.
But at this point, the cafeteria had already noticed.
A classic drama was unfolding. Two girls fighting over a guy.
A crowd quickly gathered, eager to watch the show. Chen Cheng’s face flushed red. Embarrassed, she lowered her head, then grabbed An Yuan and pulled him away.
"Let’s go, let’s go. Don’t talk to Li Wanyi anymore. Bad luck."
"I know, I know. But she came to me first, didn’t she?" An Yuan sighed, trying to calm her down. "Relax, I’m not stupid. Don’t be anxious."
"Who said I was anxious?!"
Li Wanyi clenched her fists as she listened to their conversation fading into the distance.
She couldn’t believe it. For years, she had kept An Yuan hooked with just the right amount of ambiguity, never letting him go or letting him get too close. Everything was stable.
Then Chen Cheng showed up, and it all fell apart.
But why?!
She hadn’t done anything wrong. And before now, she had never heard anyone say that Chen Cheng and An Yuan were childhood sweethearts!
Not only a green tea b*tch, but a sneaky little vixen too!
Watching the two walk away together, Li Wanyi fumed, gritting her teeth as she stomped off toward the dorms.
