Chapter 18: In a Serious Job Like This, Can I Make Good Use of the Fact That I Now Have a Girl’s Body?

Now that I have a beautiful girl’s appearance, plus the skills I had as a guy, and my thick skin—

Lin Yibai would usually describe this situation with just one word: “unstoppable.”

After the interview, Lin Yibai moved into the hotel arranged by the event organizers that very same day.

In the late afternoon:

[@Everyone: There will be a training session at 7 PM on the third floor of the hotel.]

If this event didn’t have official support from Fucheng City, Lin Yibai would have seriously doubted if this part-time job was legit.

First, they had requirements for height and looks. Then they arranged pre-job training in a hotel.

Lin Yibai thought, if someone isn’t bold and doesn’t know how part-time jobs like this usually work, most girls wouldn’t dare to come!

Luckily, the benefits were pretty good.

It’s said that in the past, some of the girls doing this job had fights and drama, what people jokingly call a “catfight.” So now, each girl gets her own private room.

That evening, in the training room, Lin Yibai chose a corner seat on purpose.

She noticed that the girls around her were all more attractive than average.

At the very least, their height and figures were all up to standard. And surprisingly, their faces were all quite pretty too.

At that moment, the organizers were giving a PowerPoint presentation about manners at the front of the room.

“First of all, you must be polite. You’ll each be assigned to different areas to promote Fucheng’s local culture, or help guide visitors to different parts of the expo. You’ll be supporting businesses and vendors in their activities.”

This was a lot more complicated than Lin Yibai expected.

In her simple imagination, she thought the job would just be standing at the entrance saying, “Welcome.”

They called it an “expo greeter,” but it was more like a guide.

She would be leading people from all over the country, and even from other countries, to different booths, helping companies get more attention and maybe make deals, supporting the economy and helping more people get jobs.

“Whoa!!” Lin Yibai shook her head hard and looked at the speakers, thinking, “These trainers are amazing! No wonder they’re from the government. They almost got me all fired up!”

Almost. It was nearly not just a part-time job anymore.

Just like heroes in old times fought for their country and people... Now, the greeters serve the country and the people too?

It turned out this part-time job was much more serious than she thought. That meant she had even more reason to make the most of her current girl body.

Around 10 PM, the session ended.

Lin Yibai also took back a work uniform.

It was a blue, long-sleeved shirt with a standing collar, and a pair of formal black women’s dress pants.

“I thought it’d be a cheongsam or something!”

Lin Yibai never imagined it would be this formal. But maybe that was a good thing. At least it wouldn’t be too awkward later.

There was also a pair of high heels.

At first, she didn’t care much. But when she actually wore them the next day, her face changed instantly. She realized how serious the problem was.

First of all, they were painful. Wearing them was really tiring.

All of her body weight and pressure were focused on the tips of her toes. Just thinking about it already felt painful.

And then there was the problem of balance. She felt like if she took just two steps, she might twist her ankle.

Seeing Lin Yibai frown tightly, a nearby girl with a kind personality asked, "Hey girl, you’ve never worn high heels before, right?"

"Yeah," Lin Yibai nodded, hoping she would give her some kind of solution.

"Let me tell you, I was the same at first. Wearing high heels was super uncomfortable,

but after wearing them more often, I got used to it. You can try wearing wedge sandals to practice."

"......"

Soon, another girl joined the conversation. She also started talking about how hard it was when she first wore heels.

Oh no! Lin Yibai’s brain just wasn’t on the same wavelength as theirs!

In a typical guy's way of thinking, when someone has a problem, everyone tries to find a solution. But these girls just shared their past pain and bonded over it.

Not long after, a big bus arrived outside the hotel. It picked up all the girls doing the greeting job and took them to the expo site.

Lin Yibai was assigned to Area E.

After giving some simple instructions, the supervisor said, "You’ll be helping at the front desk. Your job is to register visitors, answer questions, guide people if needed, and help the businesses in Area E if they have problems. OK?"

"OK!" Lin Yibai nodded.

This job wasn’t exactly hard, but it wasn’t that simple either.

There were about 40 booths in Area E. With a bit of effort, she could remember them all. The tricky part was probably dealing with foreigners sometimes.

Lin Yibai had passed the college English Level 4 test, but when it came to speaking...

Sorry, her spoken English was limited to just a few sentences.

Luckily, the expo was well prepared. Each area had its own translator. And some foreign visitors even brought their own interpreters.

Looking more closely, the translators seemed to be students from a foreign language school.

One student translator asked politely, "Hello, could you help me find booths with items that have a strong artistic feeling?"

“Booths with items that have a strong artistic feeling?”

If Lin Yibai hadn’t been wearing the pretty uniform of a greeter and representing the image of Fucheng, she would’ve scratched her head in confusion.

The translator probably didn’t make a mistake. He just translated exactly what the foreign guest said, word for word.

But... it felt a bit too literal.

So, “items with a strong artistic feeling”... what exactly does that mean?

Lin Yibai thought hard, then carefully asked, “Do you mean... maybe handicrafts made for export?”

"Nice, yes yes yes, that’s exactly it, export crafts." The translator laughed awkwardly, realizing his translation was a bit too direct.

But it wasn’t a big deal. They just smiled at each other and moved on.

There were actually a few booths in Area E that sold such export crafts. Most of them came from Yiwu.

But the foreign visitor didn’t seem very interested.

The translator asked again, “Are there any crafts that feel more foreign or international?”

That’s when Lin Yibai started to understand.

At the last booth, it was full of ceramic products. Carvings of dragons and phoenixes, in red and black colors.

There was even a porcelain sculpture of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy.

Without a doubt, these works showed the deep beauty of traditional Chinese culture.

But when Lin Yibai checked the guidebook again, she muttered quietly, “No mistake… this booth is marked as doing export business.”

Sharing and promoting culture is a great thing. It should definitely be praised.

But if you're in the export business, and you're showing foreign visitors a porcelain statue of Guanyin…

Won’t they be totally confused?

Because those two things are unrelated.
