Chapter 19: Almost Charmed Her Love Rival’s Soul Away
Lin Yibai’s major is Marketing and Planning.
But right now, as a guide at the expo, she could only give a polite, professional smile and say, “I’m very sorry that I couldn’t help you find what you needed.”
The translator from the foreign language school passed on her words.
The two foreigners just waved their hands, then left with the translator to check out other areas.
From a professional point of view, watching the foreigners shake their heads and walk away made her heart ache. Just a little more and she might have helped the booths earn their money.
What? Are you saying she worships foreigners?
No way! It’s just business.
Lin Yibai was simply feeling bad for those export booths. They were so close to making a sale to those foreign customers.
But then again...
What did that have to do with her?
She was just a small-time front desk assistant.
After that, Lin Yibai went back to her post.
Meanwhile, in the last booth she had visited, a boy was opening another box of ceramic products.
Xia Changyu was working hard inside the booth.
And then, guess what he saw?
A girl with short hair, wearing a blue-collared shirt, black dress pants, and small high heels.
“Is that her?”
Xia Changyu’s memory was triggered.
He suddenly remembered that day in the restaurant, the fear caused by Gu Xiaoxue’s roommates, and also the girl he had hoped to meet again at school.
It looked like she was doing a part-time job at the expo, and had just brought two foreigners over.
But the foreigners had shaken their heads and walked away disappointed.
The girl had sighed and looked a bit regretful.
“What exactly happened?” Xia Changyu started to care.
As one of the young entrepreneurs at his school, his main business was foreign trade.
Clearly, the foreigners were his target customers. So why did they leave!?
“Changyu, what are you thinking? Hurry up and get the booth ready. Didn’t you say your girlfriend’s coming later?” A teammate’s voice pulled Xia Changyu back to reality.
He could only push down his confusion for now.
Today was the first day of the expo, and there was a lot of work to do. He should be focusing on his business.
But… Xia Changyu’s eyes kept drifting around.
Because of that girl, she kept walking around Area E from time to time.
Every time he casually looked up, he’d spot Lin Yibai moving around, busy with her work.
Everything she did had a calm and graceful feeling. Even when she was just smiling for work, it still looked beautiful.
“Her smile is really pretty,” Xia Changyu thought from the heart. Even if her smile was just part of her job, it was still lovely.
Finally, the girl guided another group of foreigners over to his booth.
Xia Changyu perked up, thinking he was finally getting some business. And maybe she’d come with them this time.
But before he could even start talking, the foreigners just glanced at the booth, waved their hands again, and left for another area.
“Sigh, there goes another one,” Lin Yibai said with a tired sigh.
Life was hard.
Of course, after seeing this happen so many times, she was starting to feel numb.
After all, it wasn’t her money. If they didn’t make a sale, it wasn’t her loss.
She turned to leave.
“Wait a second.”
Suddenly, someone called out to him from behind.
“Hello, do you need any help?” Lin Yibai smiled politely without thinking, but as soon as she saw who had called her, the smile froze on her face.
Ugh, Xia Changyu.
This booth... belongs to Xia Changyu?
Damn it! She had been bringing foreigners here again and again, and she even felt sorry he didn’t make any money. Serves him right he didn’t get a single cent!
If it weren’t for her current role, Lin Yibai probably would’ve clenched her fists and punched that annoying dead fish a few times to vent her anger.
Luckily, she was now in a girl’s identity. So she decided to just pretend not to know him.
“I have a few questions I want to ask you,” Xia Changyu said, walking over to try and start a conversation.
Lin Yibai frowned and took two steps back. This made Xia Changyu feel a bit awkward, as if he were some kind of monster.
But since she was a girl now, this kind of reaction was perfectly normal.
Before Xia Changyu could say more, Lin Yibai said indifferently, “Is this about work? Like something wrong with your booth or a problem with the electricity?” (Hopefully the wires shock you, you jerk.)
“It’s not that, I just—”
“Sorry. If it’s not a work-related issue, then I’m not allowed to help you. It’s not part of my job.”
“Uh… I see…”
“I’m leaving now. Goodbye.”
As soon as she turned around, Lin Yibai broke into a sneaky smile.
Hahaha! That annoying love rival finally had a bad day!
Seeing him look so awkward made her happier than winning 500 yuan.
But just as the saying goes, “Happiness brings trouble.”
Her good mood didn’t last long.
Still watching her love rival, Lin Yibai noticed Gu Xiaoxue had arrived, along with her roommates.
“What the heck! It's Xiaoxue!!!”
Lin Yibai had taken a day off to do this part-time job. But Xiaoxue had class today!
Yet she skipped class just to help Xia Changyu run his booth.
Xiaoxue, you’re supposed to be a good, well-behaved girl!
How could you skip class?
“I get it now… It must be that bad guy Xia Changyu who led you astray!” Lin Yibai started to feel upset.
If Xia Changyu wasn’t the one who corrupted Xiaoxue, then maybe Xiaoxue wasn’t the innocent girl Lin Yibai believed her to be.
Simply put: Love can fade. And someone’s image can fall apart.
Lin Yibai liked the sweet and shy version of Gu Xiaoxue, not some girl who skips class.
To keep an eye on Xiaoxue, Lin Yibai, though she didn’t want to, started walking near that booth again.
She ran into the translator guy from the foreign language school. But the foreigners beside him were a new group.
Lin Yibai asked casually, “Are you heading to the foreign trade section again?”
“Yep.”
“And you brought them straight to me?”
“Well, I know you pretty well, Miss. And honestly, taking them on a quick routine tour is all I need to do. Haha.”
“You really know how to give me more work.”
“Hahahaha.”
The translator laughed loudly. Even though it seemed like he was being lazy with the foreigners, wasn’t that also a kind of relaxed way to get through work?
And he was being lazy on the foreigners’ time, while still making money off of them.
Compared to him, Xia Changyu was way less skilled, maybe a hundred times worse!
Soon, the foreigners left again.
Lin Yibai raised her hands and sighed loudly. “Well, there goes another one!”
This time, Xia Changyu couldn’t take it anymore.
This booth was the last stop on Lin Yibai’s tour, and he had seen foreigners leave again and again with his own eyes.
He didn’t understand. So he had to ask.
“I remember your name is Lin Baiyi, right? If I’ve done anything to upset you before, then I apologize... But could you please tell me, why do those foreigners always leave?” Xia Changyu lowered his tone and asked sincerely.
If there hadn't been any conflict, Lin Yibai might have told him.
