Chapter 63: Xiao Jing's Change

Honestly, the audition for the Top Ten Singers was really painful to listen to.

The microphone didn’t have good sound quality, and most of the students sang off-key, sounding like ghosts crying or wolves howling. Li Mu felt even a random parrot would’ve sounded better than them.

Most people get paid to sing, but these guys should get paid to not sing.

Li Mu and Yu Fan signed up the day before the deadline, so they were placed at the end of the list. That meant the two of them had no choice but to sit through this musical torture.

Of course, a few students did sing pretty well.

Yu Fan finally escaped from the group of girls around him, looking annoyed. But as he got closer to Li Mu, he smiled again and casually put his arm around Li Mu’s shoulder, leaning against the wall.

“So, what song are we singing today?”

Because they signed up so suddenly, they hadn’t even picked a song yet.

Li Mu thought for a moment. He didn’t listen to much music and only knew how to sing a few songs. So he quickly made a decision. “[Brother Hug]?”

It wasn’t meant to be a hint about their friendship or anything, it was just an easier song to sing.

“Alright,” Yu Fan yawned, then asked, “So, you’re going on stage with your girl voice?”

“No, I’ll sing myself.”

Li Mu had originally planned to let Xiao Jing take over and sing, but after hearing how bad everyone else was, he suddenly felt more confident.

Seriously? I thought this would be more professional… but most of them are just here for fun.

Even the girls from the next class, who actually had music classes, couldn’t stay on key.

It was still a bit embarrassing, but it wasn’t so bad when you had someone else to share the shame with.

……………………………………………

When they came out of the dance room, Li Mu’s face was still a little red from embarrassment.

It was his first time singing in front of so many people, he had never even tried singing in a KTV before.

Luckily, Yu Fan was just as good as he claimed. He wasn’t only good at drawing, he also had some real singing skill. Under his guidance, Li Mu at least didn’t sing off-key.

In the end, they barely passed and made it to the next round.

“There’s another round of auditions next Wednesday,” Yu Fan mumbled. “We really have to prepare next time. We almost didn’t pass this one. You have to let Xiao Jing sing next time.”

“I’m just not good at singing,” Li Mu said with a blank face.

“Yeah, I can tell. You’re not good at anything.”

“......”

Yu Fan could draw and sing, he was a true artsy guy. But Li Mu really didn’t seem to have any talents.

Well, that wasn’t totally true. Since he had absorbed Lin Xi’s memories, he was now really skilled at makeup, and even knew a little about dancing.

After the audition, it was already 6 p.m. Yu Fan didn’t feel like going back to eat dinner, so he lazily followed Li Mu into the school cafeteria.

Both the cafeteria and the campus store were run by teachers. Today, the campus store was run by Li Mu’s homeroom teacher, though he wasn’t sure who was in charge of the cafeteria.

The store’s prices were the same as outside. The cafeteria food was cheap, but the taste was just okay. They always served the same dozen or so dishes, so it got boring after a while.

There weren’t many students left in the cafeteria now, so they didn’t need to line up. Li Mu ordered two dishes with rice and found an empty seat.

“What are we gonna sing next time?” Yu Fan asked, sitting down with a meal that cost over twenty yuan. He didn’t even know if he could finish it.

“We’ll let Xiao Jing sing... maybe something by Phoenix Legend?”

Li Mu looked a little troubled when he said that.

He managed to avoid trouble this time by singing himself. But next time, he’d not only have to go on stage again, he’d be a guy singing with a girl’s voice.

“Phoenix Legend is so lame,” Yu Fan said with a disgusted look on his face.

But Li Mu actually thought they were pretty good. Since he never watched any girl bands or boy bands, he hadn’t been "brainwashed" by their music yet.

As the two were still talking, a chubby guy sat down next to Yu Fan.

It was Xu Ze, the big black-haired guy who started the rumor that Yu Fan liked to wear girls' clothes.

“Yu Fan, did you pass the audition?” Xu Ze asked. He was pretty close to Yu Fan and casually crossed one leg over the other. His big legs under those shorts were shaking, and his fat jiggled like waves.

“Passed.”

“Oh~” Xu Ze looked over at Li Mu, who was sitting alone across from them, then looked back at Yu Fan.

Ever since the day he saw Yu Fan chasing after Li Mu as they ran out of a hotel, Xu Ze thought there was something weird about their relationship.

Others who didn’t know the story might just think they were close friends.

But Xu Ze had a feeling that something else had happened between them…

Like, maybe guy-on-guy action or something.

Curious, Xu Ze leaned over and asked Yu Fan in a gossipy whisper, “What’s going on between you and Li Mu? Come on, just tell me.”

“We’re comrades who fought side by side,” Yu Fan answered proudly, lifting his chin.

After all, they had taken down an evil ghost together!

If he told people that, it would sound like something straight out of an anime.

“Oh~” Xu Ze nodded, looking like he was thinking deeply.

Li Mu felt like there was some hidden meaning behind those words. He glanced up, then decided that Xu Ze’s dark face wasn’t exactly pleasant to look at while eating, so he just kept his head down and continued with his meal.

“Yu Fan, want to go to KTV this weekend? It’s my birthday,” Xu Ze finally got to the point.

Yu Fan didn’t seem too interested and shook his head. “I'm fine with grabbing a meal with you, but KTV is a no-go, not my thing.”

“What about Li Mu, then? If he goes, will you come?” Xu Ze turned to ask Li Mu.

Li Mu paused, he didn’t really know Xu Ze at all.

“I’ve also invited a few girls. If you two don’t go, the boy-to-girl ratio’s gonna be way off.”

“I’m in!” Li Mu suddenly agreed with determination.

It’s time to get a girlfriend!

If he kept acting more and more girly, and even ended up becoming a girl without ever dating one, that would be such a waste!

Even if he couldn’t do anything with a girlfriend right now, at least holding hands or something would help him feel better mentally!

“Then I…” Yu Fan hesitated, about to say yes.

“You’re not allowed!” a sudden girl’s voice cut in.

Li Mu jumped in shock and quickly looked down to bite into his chicken leg.

The sudden voice startled everyone at the table. Xu Ze looked suspiciously at Li Mu, but after a moment of confusion, he looked around, there were no girls nearby.

Yu Fan reacted first and saved the moment. “That was my text message notification sound.”

Thank goodness Yu Fan didn’t sell him out at the last second.

“Never mind, I’m busy this weekend,” Li Mu changed his mind and turned down the invite, finally breathing a sigh of relief.

He complained in his heart. Xiao Jing, why do you always talk without asking me first?

And what’s wrong with me trying to get a girlfriend?

Back then, his little sister was always hoping he’d bring a future sister-in-law home.

Yu Fan also ended up turning down the invite, and Xu Ze left with a disappointed look after finishing his meal. Meanwhile, Li Mu was still thinking deeply about Xiao Jing and how she was different from his little sister.

He used to think she had just forgotten her past life. But now, it seemed like even her personality had changed.
