[Vol. 6] Chapter 267: The Secret of Immortality
In a flash of light, two figures appeared together in a secluded corner of the Immortal Island.
With the divine power of the Fox God, traveling anywhere on this island was effortless. After all, this entire place was a creation jointly crafted by Konghen and Dawn.
At its core, Spirit Veil Immortal Island was not a mystical land of swirling clouds and celestial energy like people imagined. Instead, it was actually a massive divine artifact, specifically designed for the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden. A unique fusion of divine power and advanced technology.
The reality of its internal structure was very different from the traditional image of an ethereal paradise. Instead, it resembled a floating city with an unusual layout, making it an ideal place to live in its own way.
Hand in hand, the two girls walked side by side along the main pathway leading to the [Central Area]. As they moved forward, members of the Spirit Veil Tribe occasionally passed by, quickly stopping to bow respectfully before continuing on their way.
Meanwhile, Violet's mind was filled with thoughts about the data and records she had read on this floating island.
Before she ascended to godhood, the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden had traveled through countless worlds, witnessing their rise and fall firsthand. Through her journeys, she had learned an immense amount of knowledge.
In fact, most worlds in existence had no gods at all. Some didn’t even have magic or anything that defied the natural laws. Technology-based worlds, like Aibus, were actually not uncommon.
During her time there, Dawn had studied many unique technologies developed by the local inhabitants. Eventually, she combined that knowledge with her divine power to create both Spirit Veil Immortal Island and the Spirit Veil Tribe.
And as for the secret of the Spirit Veil Tribe’s immortality. It was actually far simpler than anyone could have ever imagined.
"It’s been so long since I last came back here… but it doesn’t seem like much has changed~"
Stopping in front of a high-tech-looking building in the [Central Area], the two highest-ranking individuals on the entire island paused for a moment.
"Welcome, Young Lady, and welcome Your Divineness, Supreme Sacred Fox God."
The Spirit Veil guards stationed at the entrance immediately bowed in deep respect. Violet simply nodded in response, her expression calm and composed.
"How much of the pool’s reserves have been depleted over the past thousand years?"
A young fox-eared man, the leader of the guards, quickly stepped forward to answer.
"Most of the time, the Immortal Island remains sealed off, so our people rarely travel to the lower realm. There's hardly any unexpected resource depletion. The only major losses we suffered were during the recent battle against the lower realm's demons, where over a hundred of our kin were slain by the evil spirits and the [Withered Tree Seedling]."
"Right now, they are undergoing regeneration. Would you like to take a look, my lady?"
"Yes."
The white fox girl nodded.
The [Withered Tree Seedling], that referred to the fragments born from the [Immortal Withered Tree]. They weren’t particularly numerous, but their nature was comparable to gluttonous horrors among demons, a kind of soldier-like entity with a sinister conceptual existence.
When they first appeared, they had caused devastating casualties across the Ancient Spirit Realm. Even the Spirit Veil Tribe, whose weakest members were at least Level 50, had lost over a hundred warriors in that war. The scene of countless wandering souls filling the battlefield had been a tragic sight.
But now, with Violet and Xiao Kong having erased the [Immortal Withered Tree] from its very source, its spawn had lost their immortality. The remaining ones were gradually hunted down and eradicated by the Celestial Guardian Army and the strongest warriors of Ancient Spirit Realm.
Stepping into the building, Xiao Kong and Violet passed through multiple security checkpoints. After navigating layers of tight security measures and defensive barriers, all personally designed by the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden, they finally arrived at a small, elegantly crafted, silver-white mechanical door.
Two Spirit Veil guardians stood on duty outside.
They were identical twin sisters, as if sculpted from the same mold. Everything about them was the same. Their clothing, body shape, facial structure, and even their presence. They looked no older than twenty, wearing half-fox masks similar to the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden, each mask covering only one side of their delicate faces in perfect symmetry.
Unlike the usual black-haired members of the Spirit Veil Tribe, these twins had snow-white hair, just like the true Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden.
They carried no weapons and emitted no aura, simply standing silently on either side of the silver-white door, appearing as ordinary as could be…
But Violet, who had inherited Dawn’s memories, knew the truth.
These two girls, despite their unassuming presence, were actually the strongest combatants on the entire Spirit Veil Immortal Island.
If they fought together, even the Wuqu, the most battle-hardened warrior among the [Seven Hidden Stars], wouldn't stand a chance.
Aside from the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden herself, perhaps only the Fox God could defeat them in the Ancient Spirit Realm.
Dawn created many life forms during her experiments, but these twins, Feng and Tong, were by far her strongest creation. However, even their birth involved unexpected factors, making it impossible for even her to replicate the miracle again.
It was also the only time Dawn successfully pushed a creation beyond Level 80. These sisters had achieved divine status without possessing a godhood, something no other artificial life form had ever done.
Their power level was the same as Snow Wing’s when she was first born.
"It's been a while, Feng, Tong. How have you been?"
Violet greeted them with a warm smile.
The twin sisters, their faces half-covered by white fox masks, looked at her in perfect sync. Then, with the same calm, emotionless tone, they spoke at the exact same time.
"Mission execution remains normal. What are your orders, Master?"
After a thousand years apart, they still showed no emotion whatsoever.
Violet and Xiao Kong exchanged glances, then sighed, shaking their heads helplessly.
Dawn had stationed them here for two reasons.
First, this place was the core foundation of the Spirit Veil Tribe. A critical area that, if compromised, could spell disaster for their entire race.
Second, Feng and Tong themselves had serious issues.
Under normal circumstances, Level 80 was the absolute limit any living being could reach.
Not because of rules or restrictions, but because a soul simply couldn't handle anything beyond that threshold. Without a godhood to support a higher evolution, a mortal body would be incapable of withstanding the overwhelming power that came with such a leap.
By sheer coincidence, Dawn had managed to push these sisters beyond that boundary.
However, since they had no divinity, Feng and Tong’s souls were placed under an unbearable burden. In fact, the moment they were born, they were already on the verge of death.
Luckily, because they were twins, the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden was able to use a special technique to fuse their souls into a single entity, allowing them to barely withstand the power that no ordinary being could handle.
Even so, they still suffered from serious side effects.
For instance, because their souls carried too much energy, their minds had become rigid and overly logical, making them incapable of expressing emotions or living normally like the rest of the Spirit Veil Tribe.
Feng and Tong only follow orders from Dawn, their creator. While they weren’t exactly foolish, they were overly rigid, following instructions to the letter without any flexibility.
Another issue was that the twins couldn’t be separated for long periods. If they were, they would start to weaken and could even die.
Because of this, the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden assigned them as special personal guards, placing them in charge of protecting the most important core area of the Spirit Veil Tribe. They rarely left their post, serving as a hidden trump card for emergencies.
After that experiment, Dawn never tried to create another being beyond the divine realm.
She had come to a realization. This limit wasn’t just a restriction. It was also a form of protection for living beings. Trying to bypass it would only lead to disaster.
Violet glanced at the twin fox-eared girls again. Their beauty was undeniable, but there was a mechanical coldness to them, almost like living machines. Suppressing the mix of familiarity and curiosity she felt, she casually spoke.
"I wouldn't call it an order… We just want to take a look inside. That should be fine, right?"
The twins raised their heads at the exact same time, their golden eyes focusing on Violet’s white fox mask. It was as if they were sensing something from her.
After a few moments, they nodded in unison and responded in their usual synchronized voices.
"Confirmed highest authorization from the Master. Permission granted to enter the [Regeneration Pool]."
Feng and Tong stepped to the sides in perfect sync, pressing their hands against the silver-white retractable door.
Intricate magical patterns glowed across the surface for a brief moment before fading away.
Then, the door silently slid open, revealing what lay inside.
Violet and Xiao Kong stepped inside, their eyes immediately drawn to a massive hot spring, its surface steaming with misty white fog.
The pool was divided into two sections by a partition, resembling the structure of separate male and female baths.
Within the water, dozens of tall, high-tech incubation chambers, made of metal and semi-transparent glass, stood silently. They were several meters high, continuously cycling fluids with a gentle bubbling sound.
Inside these incubation chambers were the Spirit Veil Tribe members who had died, or rather, were in the process of regenerating.
Most of them were still in embryonic or infant form, while a few had grown to about six or seven years old. However, none of them had reached the stage where they could wake up yet.
Xiao Kong observed for a moment before commenting casually, "Everything seems fine. The first batch should be ready in a few days."
Violet nodded in agreement, unsurprised by what she saw.
"Yeah..."
Even though Violet had already learned everything through her inherited memories, seeing it with her own eyes still left her in awe. A reminder of the sheer ambition and ingenuity of her past self.
The Spirit Veil Tribe’s ‘immortality’ was not a divine gift from the Fox God, nor was it an absolute truth. Instead, it was a designed feature, built into their very existence from the moment of their creation.
At the heart of this immortality system lay the [Regeneration Pool]. A place where every Spirit Veil tribesman was originally born.
This massive sacred artifact, personally designed by the Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden, had the power to rapidly accelerate the growth of embryos into new life forms. It could also maintain and restore individuals who had been created from it.
Though the Spirit Veil Tribe was a mythical race, their actual lifespan was surprisingly short, comparable to that of an ordinary human.
They did not age, but their bodies only lasted for a few decades before reaching their natural limit.
However, thanks to the [Reincarnation] Divinity, they could reset their bodies by periodically entering the [Regeneration Pool], like shedding an old shell and emerging in their prime state once again.
During this process, their mind and memories were backed up in corresponding incubation chambers, ensuring that their identities remained intact.
If a Spirit Veil tribesman were to die outside, their life-link device would detect the loss and immediately regenerate them within the [Regeneration Pool].
Of course, this came at a cost. Any memories not yet backed up would be lost forever.
Their level and abilities would reset to zero, requiring them to grow again from scratch.
Still, as long as their core experiences and memories remained intact, these drawbacks were manageable.
As a result, as long as the [Regeneration Pool] remained unharmed, the Spirit Veil Tribe would never truly die.
Their immortality was not a single unbroken existence but rather an endless cycle of rebirths, an eternity formed by countless small loops.
But this divine artifact was never meant to be a universal tool.
It was specifically designed for the Spirit Veil Tribe, tailored to match their unique structure. No other being could use it. Otherwise…
"Heh…"
Looking back, she couldn’t help but acknowledge how insanely ambitious her past self had been.
Immortality, huh…?
