Chapter 30: She’s Probably What You’d Call a Perfect Girlfriend
It’s all just tricks from her love rival… right?
Otherwise, why would she have said “thank you” to him? Lin Yibai felt like she had gone against her true feelings.
‘I’m such a fake, so inconsistent,’ she thought.
But in Xia Changyu’s eyes, it looked totally different. He thought Lin Yibai seemed like a typical tsundere girl. Especially when she actually said the word “thank you.” That made him feel like, even if he had to run another two kilometers for her, it would still be worth it.
Then he thought of his current girlfriend.
Some unpleasant memories came rushing back.
Xia Changyu remembered how, just a few nights ago, he had driven all the way from the university area to downtown in the middle of the night to buy late-night snacks for Gu Xiaoxue and her roommates. And yet, not even a single “thank you” from them.
Instead, they told him that he should feel lucky for getting a chance to “prove himself,” and he should be the one thanking them.
Trying to be understanding, Xia Changyu told himself, ‘Fine, let’s just say I did it for my girlfriend, Gu Xiaoxue…’
But the more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became.
‘Damn it, all that effort to get pork bone wonton noodles... I might as well have fed them to a dog!’
At least a dog would have shown some gratitude!
Xia Changyu really did want to be a good boyfriend. But he’s also a regular guy with feelings!
And after seeing how Lin Yibai acted…
He started to notice more and more flaws in Gu Xiaoxue, especially her weird roommates, who were seriously something else.
He sincerely hoped his girlfriend would improve. It would be even better if she could learn from Lin Yibai. All he could do now was hope.
By the time Xia Changyu snapped out of his thoughts, Lin Yibai had already walked away and gone back to her post.
The streamer Cai Cai was still hanging around booth 39, which happened to be Xia Changyu’s booth. But right now, Cai Cai looked like he was struggling to keep things entertaining.
Just staring at porcelain? Not exactly fun to watch.
If it weren’t for his sponsor’s request, he would’ve left long ago.
So when he saw Lin Yibai coming back, his eyes lit up.
“Yo, your body—uh, I mean, good to see you back! As our guide, got anything fun to show us?”
Lin Yibai gave a small smile and pointed at the porcelain in the display.
“How about we talk about these ceramics?”
What? Ceramics?
What’s there to say? Boring!
After all, his stream was full of gaming fans. They cared more about games and jokes, not museum talk.
But Lin Yibai had a plan. She said, “...I heard the people in this stream are all gaming masters, and smooth talkers, too?”
As soon as she said that, the chat exploded. Everyone started claiming they were legendary players. Because bragging online is free, of course.
“What a coincidence. I’m a master too!”
“?”
Streamer Cai Cai blinked and asked curiously, “Wait, what do you mean? You’re what?”
Lin Yibai lifted her chin with confidence and said in a polite tone.
“I’m also a gaming master, you know!”
Cai Cai: “Hah!”
Live chat: “LOL hahahahaha~”
“Tell us a joke: a girl, and a gaming master?”
“I used to believe girls could be good at games, until my girlfriend got so mad she smashed my console. Brothers, who can relate???”
“She’s pretty, but come on, such a show-off.”
“Girls should be humble. Tsk!”
So girls should be humble... but how is that my problem as a guy?
After three years of living in a college dorm full of guys, and owning her own PC, Lin Yibai wasn’t going to claim she knew every game…
But when it came to the popular ones, she was definitely better than average.
Seeing how active the stream chat had gotten, Cai Cai asked curiously.
“Now I’m really wondering, which games do you play?”
Lin Yibai paused for a moment and said, “How about I ask you instead, what games are popular these days?”
Whoa, this girl had guts!
Streamer Cai Cai had already been polite enough to let her talk about games she was good at. And now she wasn’t backing down, she was even throwing out a challenge?
The chat instantly went wild:
“Pick one, Elden Ring! Let her see how cruel the world can be.”
“Nah, go with Dark Souls! Even worse!”
“Bloodborne, for sure. Cursed and brutal.”
“Sekiro, or maybe Ghost of Tsushima!”
“Definitely Nioh.”
“Get that Nioh fan outta here!”
“……”
Oh boy, what kind of evil audience was this?
Cai Cai couldn’t help but wipe some sweat off his forehead. His fans were seriously telling a girl to try the entire Miyazaki Hidetaka series? That’s just mean.
They probably just wanted to see her get crushed and cry on stream.
Cai Cai was already thinking of how to help this female friend of his sponsor get out of this smoothly…
But then Lin Yibai’s eyes lit up. The Miyazaki games?
To be honest, she could play those with her eyes closed.
In fact, everyone in her dorm could play them. And they were good at it, too.
They had a rule. In PvP, whoever lost had to go buy lunch and drinks for the others.
Now, what was the newest Miyazaki game again? Oh right, Elden Ring.
Lin Yibai smiled and said calmly. “Too bad there’s no computer here. Otherwise, I’d be waiting for you on the stage at the Haligtree. If you’ve got the guts, come find me!”
Wow. She was really bold.
And she even knew Elden Ring references? Probably picked them up online.
That just made her sound even more provocative.
Some fans in the chat started doubting her, saying she was acting tough just because there was no PC available. Kind of cute, though.
But everyone knew the truth. No streamer travels without their gaming laptop.
So when Cai Cai pulled out his Alienware laptop, the chat exploded again.
“Hahaha! She just talked big and now she’s about to get destroyed!”
“This is getting fun!”
“I wanna see her cry after getting wrecked.”
“Girls just aren’t good at games!”
Cai Cai hesitated for a second and said kindly. “If it’s too hard, don’t push yourself, okay?”
“?” Lin Yibai raised her eyebrow in disbelief.
Push herself? For a skill she learned just to avoid going out to buy food, and to make her dorm buddies do all the chores for her?
Why should this be hard?
She waved her hand and took the controller. “Enough talk. Let’s duel!”
That caught the attention of a lot of fans. Soon, glowing red duel signs began to appear on the ground in the game.
A red, blood-colored phantom appeared.
Elden Ring PvP duels are pretty simple.
Just a lot of rolling, jump attacks, and mixing in some special moves.
And clearly, her opponent had underestimated her.
After some early back-and-forth, the opponent did a jump attack.
But Lin Yibai timed it perfectly, pulled out a small shield, and parried. A second later, execution triggered.
“Whoa! That was fast!”
“She actually knows how to parry?”
“Forget that, she just parried a viewer and landed a full execution!”
“She pulled out a dagger, she’s going for the kill!”
“Wait wait wait—”
“She’s using a damage bug!”
Then suddenly, Lin Yibai switched from her inventory…
And pulled out a giant shield that could shoot cannon fire.
The whole stream blew up.
It wasn’t an execution. It was… a cannon blast!!
