Chapter 119: The Ghost
Li Mu was getting really annoyed by that hand bothering him. After slapping it away again, he finally couldn’t hold back and shouted.
“Yu Fan! Are you crazy? Stop touching me!”
Yu Fan stopped right away, looking around. “Did you see something?”
Still pretending!
This wasn’t a horror movie theater.
“Yu Fan, if you want to flirt, don’t do it now,” said Chen Yi, who was walking in front, with a sigh.
In the darkness, Yu Fan could only see the outlines of the two people ahead. Even though he couldn’t see their eyes, he could feel that they both thought he was a creep.
“I didn’t do anything!” he said, a little angry. “Could it be a ghost?”
“Don’t blame the ghost,” Li Mu said with a pout.
Although they hadn’t ruled out the ghost possibility, it was still most likely Yu Fan.
After all, things had gotten a little awkward between them back at the hotel. Maybe Yu Fan got the wrong idea and thought Li Mu liked him too.
Maybe this was Yu Fan trying to test if Li Mu was also into him?
While he was lost in thought, that hand came close again.
This time, without hesitation, Li Mu quickly grabbed the wrist of that hand and stopped walking. “Yu Fan, what do you have to say now?”
Yu Fan blinked. “Huh?”
Chen Yi turned around and lit his lighter to help Li Mu see.
“You’re holding my hand, and…” Li Mu looked down, but then froze.
Whose hand was that?
He let go instantly and stepped back in shock, a chill running down his whole body.
Yu Fan rushed forward and stood in front of Li Mu to protect him. He looked at the arm reaching out from the darkness and asked, surprised, “That thing was the one bothering you this whole time?”
“I… I don’t know…”
The hand pulled back into the darkness. Chen Yi ran forward quickly, but couldn’t find anything.
“What was that?” Yu Fan asked, curious.
“I’m not sure. Maybe it’s the ghost’s way of choosing victims?” Chen Yi frowned. “Maybe if you hold its hand, it’ll kill you? Or maybe it kills after getting rejected too many times…”
Li Mu swallowed hard, feeling a chill on his back. The more Chen Yi talked, the less confident he felt.
He stepped back and hid behind Yu Fan again.
But then, suddenly, his eyes started to sting, like a reflex.
A hand appeared in his sight again.
Before he realized it, he couldn’t move anymore. He couldn’t make a sound.
His eyes widened in fear as he watched the hand slowly reach his face, the fingers gently touching his face…
A cold shiver ran up his spine to the top of his head. He wanted to scream for help, but his mouth felt like it had been sewn shut. Every time he tried to move it, there was sharp pain.
Yu Fan! Look at me!
Yu Fan was just one step away, but had his back turned, chatting with Chen Yi.
The ghost's thumb and finger gently touched his left eyelid, holding it open, and then softly pressed along the roundness of his eye...
It’s trying to take out my eyeball!
A cold numbness spread from the fingers to the nerves around his eye. He felt no pain, but couldn’t move at all. He could only watch helplessly as the ghost tried to scoop out his eyeball.
“Hey, Li Mu.” Yu Fan suddenly turned around. “Holy crap!”
He jumped in shock and quickly rushed over, grabbing Li Mu’s wrist. “What are you doing?!”
Li Mu suddenly came back to his senses, confused and scared, staring at the hand Yu Fan had just grabbed.
“I…”
“Were you seeing things?” Yu Fan held onto Li Mu’s hand tightly, looking very worried. “Why were you trying to poke your own eye? Did you hurt yourself? Does it hurt?”
“I don’t know.” Li Mu was completely lost and looked at Yu Fan in confusion.
Chen Yi also quickly came over and looked closely at Li Mu’s eye. Then he let out a sigh of relief. “You’re okay. We noticed in time. Looks like there’s no injury.”
“Yeah.” Li Mu swallowed hard, still feeling a bit scared.
Yu Fan let out a soft sigh, patted Li Mu’s shoulder, and said in a comforting voice, “It’s okay now. I’m here.”
“......”
"Let me hold your hand." As he said that, he gently took Li Mu's hand, squeezing a little, making Li Mu feel a bit of reassurance.
In his flustered state, he couldn't refuse and just nodded.
“Just now, you refused to hold the ghost’s hand,” Chen Yi said, trying to figure things out. “Maybe that’s what caused it to make you see things and hurt yourself?”
“Maybe that ghost had a similar experience when it was alive…”
Chen Yi paused for a second, then suddenly looked up. “It’s getting foggy.”
It was already hard to see anything in the dark night, and they had to rely on lighters or matches to light the way. Now that fog was rolling in, the three of them were completely blind.
Yu Fan nervously pulled Li Mu in front of him and whispered, “Don’t go too far from me.”
“I know.”
Li Mu held Yu Fan’s hand tightly. Their bodies were so close that he could feel the warmth coming from Yu Fan, and he also noticed that Yu Fan was slightly shaking.
Slowly, Li Mu started to calm down. He stood still and looked around.
With the fog making it hard to see, Chen Yi didn’t dare to walk around either. He stood in front of them, holding a knife in one hand and a gun in the other, watching everything around them carefully.
Suddenly, a streetlight turned on.
Chen Yi froze for a moment, and the fog started to clear.
“Is it over?” Chen Yi frowned and took out his phone. It was working again.
Yu Fan let out another sigh. “If I had known it would be this dangerous, I wouldn’t have let Li Mu come.”
“You can’t say that,” Chen Yi replied. “If Li Mu hadn’t come, maybe the ghost wouldn’t have shown up at all. Then this trip would’ve been for nothing.”
“Maybe the ghost only targets women.”
“I’m a guy.”
But both of them ignored what he said. Chen Yi kept talking, “Right now, it seems the ghost first tries to bother women. If the woman refuses, that’s when it attacks.”
“We only have two guys and one girl here, so we can’t be sure the ghost only goes after women. Maybe Li Mu just had bad luck.”
As he spoke, Chen Yi suddenly went silent. He was looking at a streetlight not far away.
Beneath it, a body was leaning against the pole, with a pool of blood around it.
It was only about fifty meters away, but the darkness earlier had kept them from seeing anything. No one noticed that the ghost had already killed someone so close by.
They couldn’t clearly see the body’s face or details from this distance, but judging by the clothes, it looked like a woman.
“Li Mu, call the police. Yu Fan and I will go check it out.”
“You go. I’ll stay here,” Yu Fan quickly said.
Chen Yi didn’t argue and walked toward the body.
As Li Mu reached for his phone to call the police, he suddenly realized Yu Fan was still holding his wrist.
He looked up helplessly and asked, “How long are you going to hold my hand?”
“I’ll let go when we get back,” Yu Fan said, looking down at Li Mu with a soft smile. “Don’t come again next time. It’s too dangerous.”
“......”
