Chapter 127: The Date
It was Saturday, the sun was shining, perfect weather for a date.
Wang Ruoyan arrived early at the entrance of the shopping mall, nervously waiting for Yu Fan to show up.
She had dressed up carefully today. It took her an hour to put on makeup, and she wore her prettiest short skirt. To match Yu Fan’s "taste," she even wore a pair of long black stockings.
She had gotten her hair styled at a salon, and sprayed on some perfume that was said to be “irresistible to guys.”
Last night, she stayed up late trying out a few games of Dota, watched tutorial videos, and played against the computer until around 1 a.m. before finally going to bed.
Now she was standing alone in front of the mall. A cold wind blew past, making her shiver.
The weather had dropped to around twenty degrees lately, and her short skirt did nothing to block the cold.
Her cheeks turned a bit red. She rarely wore skirts, especially ones that showed so much leg. The stares from people walking by made her feel really embarrassed, but just thinking about Yu Fan’s handsome smile made her lips curve up slightly.
And then… she waited in the chilly wind for a full thirty minutes.
Other people wait for the girl on a date. Why did she have to wait this long for Yu Fan?
She paced around nervously, trying to warm herself up by moving, but her excitement was slowly wearing off.
Yu Fan will come, right?
Just as that thought popped into her head, she happily spotted Yu Fan riding an electric scooter and parking it at the side of the mall.
But… sitting behind him was Li Mu.
Even though there wasn’t anything romantic going on between the two guys, just seeing Li Mu’s face, which was even prettier than most girls, made Wang Ruoyan feel a little jealous.
She quickly walked up, wanting to show her best side.
Yu Fan got off the scooter and, when he turned his head, he saw Wang Ruoyan in her short skirt and froze.
Wang Ruoyan immediately straightened her back, lowered her head slightly with a shy smile, and gently tucked her short hair behind her ear.
She had learned this move from online videos. It said boys loved it when girls played with their hair like that.
She waited excitedly for Yu Fan to praise her. She stood with her legs tightly together, trying hard to look elegant, something she usually wasn’t.
“Wang Ruoyan, aren’t you cold?” Yu Fan glanced at her, then squatted down to put another lock on the front wheel of his scooter.
Her shy smile froze on her face.
But luckily, when Yu Fan stood back up, he took off his jacket and casually handed it to her. “Here, don’t catch a cold.”
Wang Ruoyan happily took the jacket and put it on, taking a deep breath.
Ah~ this smells like Yu Fan~
Now that Yu Fan was down to just a short-sleeve shirt, he shivered a little and turned to complain, “What’s with this weather? It was hot just a few days ago.”
“......” Li Mu didn’t say anything, keeping a cold expression.
He was trying to make himself as invisible as possible so he wouldn’t ruin Wang Ruoyan’s date by being the brightest third wheel ever.
Yu Fan was already used to Li Mu’s silence and just laughed, saying, “I didn’t eat lunch on purpose today, planning to make Ruoyan treat me to something good.”
With the same cheerful smile he always had, he asked Wang Ruoyan, “So, what should we eat today?”
“Hotpot?” Wang Ruoyan was completely lost in Yu Fan’s jacket, blushing with excitement.
“Why’s your face so red?” Yu Fan teased casually. “Don’t tell me you actually like me?”
Wang Ruoyan nodded hard, but Yu Fan had already turned around and started walking toward the mall, so he didn’t see her answer.
She felt a bit disappointed and sighed softly.
“What are you standing there for?” Li Mu said with frustration. “Go catch up to him and grab his arm!”
Why are you feeling down instead of figuring out what Yu Fan thinks about you?!
I can’t possibly get on stage and teach you myself, right?!
Only then did the girl suddenly realize and quickly ran forward to catch up, walking beside Yu Fan. She reached out and hugged his arm.
Yu Fan looked down at her with a confused face, while the girl gave him a shy smile.
“Hey, holding my arm like this makes it hard to walk,” Yu Fan said seriously. “And people around us might get the wrong idea about our relationship. I don’t really mind, but what if someone we know sees us?”
Wang Ruoyan quietly let go of his arm.
Behind them, Li Mu was practically screaming inside.
Why the heck did you let go?! Use your chest and lean on his arm! You have a big chest! Why not use it to your advantage?! You’re almost there, why be shy now?!
And Yu Fan’s so-called “refusal”? Come on, he’s obviously just shy! And you actually believed what he said?!
Even though Li Mu was walking behind them, when Yu Fan turned his head slightly, he could clearly see the red blush on his face. If Wang Ruoyan had just been a little more bold, maybe she could’ve confessed right then and there.
Once they were inside the mall, Yu Fan finally noticed and turned around to ask Li Mu, “Why are you walking so far behind us?”
Because I didn't want to intrude on your time together.
Since he was caught, Li Mu had no choice but to walk up, and the three of them walked side by side.
Wang Ruoyan didn’t dare to hold Yu Fan’s arm again, and Yu Fan looked much more relaxed now. He smiled and happily chatted with Li Mu about funny things that happened during last night’s game.
Wang Ruoyan was totally lost again.
Even though she had tried playing the game last night, she still couldn’t understand anything Yu Fan was saying.
What’s 7470? What does “emotional intelligence position” mean? And why are they suddenly talking about the Huangpu River?!
Yesterday she had even memorized a bunch of Dota hero nicknames, skill names, and game terms, and she practiced for several rounds too, but still…
Why can’t she understand anything?!
She looked longingly at the two of them chatting. When Yu Fan talked about the game, his face lit up, hands waving in the air with excitement. It was like she wasn’t even there.
And although Li Mu didn’t talk much, he would reply now and then...
You two are basically a couple, aren’t you?!
Li Mu noticed Wang Ruoyan’s pitiful look and quickly changed the topic. “How about that restaurant?”
He pointed to a place nearby called Big Harvest.
“Crispy fish, huh? Sure,” Yu Fan nodded casually. “Ruoyan’s treating, right?”
“Yes! I’m treating!” Wang Ruoyan quickly stepped up, afraid Yu Fan would forget about her again. She hurried to make herself noticed. “I even asked my family for 500 yuan today just for this!”
Yu Fan smiled and nodded, “Then I won’t be polite.”
“There’s no need to be polite with me.”
So Yu Fan threw his arm around Li Mu’s shoulder and walked straight into the restaurant. Wang Ruoyan happily followed behind, but her heart felt even more bitter.
Why did it feel like she spent her money and energy, just to be the third wheel and a support... So Yu Fan and Li Mu could go out?
Trying to make herself more visible again, she hurried to catch up. “Yu Fan! Don’t you think I look different today?”
Yu Fan glanced at her.
“Really? Do you?”
He thought this girl might be a bit silly, wearing a short skirt in this kind of weather, showing off like that.
If he hadn’t been kind enough to lend her his jacket, she probably would’ve caught a cold by now.
