Chapter 95: That’s Right, It’s Me!
Grandpa didn’t seem to know anything about his parents’ job.
Li Mu returned to school and sat on the grass by the sports field, yawning from time to time.
Yu Fan was also sitting nearby playing on his phone. Every now and then, he glanced at Li Mu, and after a moment, he came over and leaned his back against Li Mu’s.
“What are you doing?”
“Leaning on each other. It’s uncomfortable to bend over and look at my phone.”
This kind of thing was pretty normal between boys. Li Mu had even seen male classmates rest their heads on each other’s knees or hug before.
So he didn’t refuse, and adjusted his position so they could lean comfortably on each other.
The afternoon sports event hadn’t started yet, so both of them were just passing time.
“So, you didn’t find anything at your grandpa’s place?”
“Not sure. I was in a hurry and only searched one room.”
“What about your other grandfather’s side?”
Li Mu paused for a second. “My grandpa and grandma passed away a long time ago.”
“Any uncles?”
“Don’t bring them up,” he said, then paused and suddenly asked Yu Fan, “So is that shaman job passed down in families?”
Yu Fan replied, “I told you already, call me a ghost hunter. Sounds cooler.”
“But yeah, I guess it’s passed down. My dad said my great-grandpa did this job too. Then my grandpa skipped a generation and passed it to me.”
Li Mu started thinking out loud, “If Grandpa doesn’t know anything, then maybe it’s my other grandpa’s side…”
His parents always avoided getting regular people involved, so it made sense that Grandpa knew nothing. The ones who probably knew the truth were his uncles.
His dad was the oldest of his generation. If his grandfather had also been a shaman, it made sense to pass it on to his father. Maybe his mom learned about it later and ended up joining in too.
Images of his parents came to his mind, and he let out a soft sigh.
“By the way, remember when we did that spirit-summoning game at your house? I really saw a ghost, didn’t I?” Yu Fan suddenly brought up something Li Mu had already forgotten.
“Yeah.”
The ghost from the game was probably just attracted there temporarily, so Li Mu hadn’t taken it too seriously.
“That one still hasn’t shown up again.”
As they were chatting, they noticed a few more people sitting nearby. Li Mu looked up and saw it was his three dorm roommates.
They were probably bored in the dorm, so they also came to wait for the afternoon sports event on the field.
Chen Zhihao plopped down on the ground, glanced at Li Mu and Yu Fan leaning back-to-back, and just as he was about to speak, Zhao Yu and Wang Chen also sat down. One laid his head on Chen Zhihao’s thigh, and the other leaned against his back, treating him like a pillow.
He sighed helplessly. “What’s wrong with you two?”
While saying that, his eyes kept sneaking glances at Li Mu.
Even though Li Mu was wearing boys’ clothes and didn’t act like a girl, at first glance, he still almost mistook him for one. He even almost thought Li Mu and Yu Fan were a couple.
From his angle, he could clearly see the curve on Li Mu’s chest that was now hard to hide.
A rumor from their class suddenly popped into his head, Yu Fan was chasing after Li Mu’s “sister.”
Because of how close they were, he hadn’t looked into it too much. But now, connecting all the little clues, he was pretty sure that Li Mu’s “sister”… was just Li Mu dressed as a girl.
So… was Yu Fan actually chasing Li Mu himself?
Li Mu noticed the way he was being looked at. Instinctively, he crossed his arms over his chest to cover himself and turned his head to ask, “Where’s Zhao Pan?”
“After the opening ceremony this morning, he climbed over the wall to go on a date with his girlfriend. He’ll probably come back this afternoon to check in,” Chen Zhihao replied calmly, quickly looking away.
He didn’t have a close relationship with Li Mu. If Li Mu hadn’t become more and more pretty lately, making men naturally want to get closer, he probably would’ve still treated Li Mu like air.
Li Mu noticed his behavior and slightly frowned. It seemed this roommate had already figured out about his crossdressing.
After all, when he got caught in girl’s clothes that one time, he wasn’t prepared at all. There were way too many clues. It wasn’t like when he later met other classmates or the homeroom teacher, those times he was ready.
So… should I silence him?
Chen Zhihao suddenly shivered. He felt like the look coming from behind him had turned cold and creepy.
Trying to act like he didn’t know anything, he quickly turned to Wang Chen and asked, “So… how’s it going with Li Mu’s sister lately?”
“What do you mean how’s it going?” Wang Chen looked frustrated. “I treated Li Mu to several meals and finally got her WeChat, but I can’t even add her.”
He checked WeChat again, and was surprised to find a new message from someone he didn’t recognize.
Holding his phone, Wang Chen scooted over to Li Mu and asked excitedly, “This is your sister, right? But her profile has nothing on it.”
“Yeah, that’s my sister,” Li Mu answered with a blank face. “She doesn’t really post anything.”
It was actually his own WeChat account, which he didn’t use much, just to occasionally check the family group chat set up by Grandpa.
“Oh, I see.” Wang Chen smiled happily while holding his phone, but he also looked a little nervous. “What should I say to her first?”
“Say whatever you want.”
So Wang Chen sent, “Are you there?”
Li Mu had been thinking of sending a lazy reply, but as soon as he saw that message, he lost interest. Every time he saw something like that, he usually couldn’t be bothered to respond.
“Why isn’t she answering me?”
“Maybe she’s taking a nap,” Li Mu replied.
Yu Fan turned his head and whispered in Li Mu’s ear, “Are you fishing for a sugar daddy?”
His warm breath tickled Li Mu’s ear, making it itch and burn. His ears even turned a little red.
“He messed with me before,” Li Mu replied casually. Then he put the phone in his pocket, thinking it was time to stop playing this game with Wang Chen.
If it went on too long, Wang Chen might become too obsessed. If his secret was revealed later, he might get beat up.
And now that Chen Zhihao had probably figured out he was crossdressing, there was no telling if he’d stay quiet or spill the truth to Wang Chen.
If Wang Chen didn’t mind, he might even try to get Li Mu to wear girl’s clothes on purpose, and then Li Mu would be stuck for the next three years.
After thinking for a bit, Li Mu looked at Wang Chen and said, “My sister messaged me. She said she doesn’t like you. Don’t waste your time.”
“What? She hasn’t even chatted with me yet. How could she not like me?”
“She said she already has a boyfriend.”
Li Mu gave Yu Fan a quick look.
Yu Fan immediately sat up straight, puffed out his chest, and put on a proud face like, “That’s right, I’m the one.”
Wang Chen froze. “Wait… Yu Fan, how long have you even known his sister? That was fast!”
“I’ve known her longer than you, so I have an advantage.” Yu Fan bragged shamelessly. “I’m good-looking, funny, and have a great personality. Isn’t it normal for her to choose me?”
Li Mu felt a bit sick from hearing that.
Wang Chen looked at Yu Fan showing off, then glanced at the annoyed look on Li Mu’s face. Something started to feel off.
He had this feeling… like he was being played.
But he couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong.
