Chapter 51: That Counts as Skipping Work
Inside the bag was a rectangular box. When she opened it, she saw it was a shoebox. From the logo printed on it, she could tell—
If Lin Muqing remembered correctly, this was a pretty big brand.
But she didn’t really know much about brands, so even if she looked at it, it didn’t help. It would’ve been easier if someone just told her how much it cost.
“Boss, what’s this?”
Suddenly getting a pair of shoes from her good buddy left Lin Muqing a little confused. She didn’t quite understand what this meant.
To be fair, she thought her current shoes were still pretty good. They weren’t worn out, so she could keep wearing them for a long time.
At least, in her opinion.
“I think your shoes are ugly.”
Ye Ziming glanced at Lin Muqing’s eyes, then looked at her shoes. A trace of distaste flashed through his eyes as he spoke calmly.
“Huh?”
Raising her eyebrows, she looked down at her shoes, then looked back up again.
“I don’t think so.”
With a confused look on her face, she tilted her head and blinked, throwing a questioning look at her good buddy.
“I’m your boss. It’s not about what you think, it’s about what I think.”
“Emmm…”
Seeing the serious expression on his face, Lin Muqing felt she had no way to argue back. She couldn’t find a reason to reject it either.
What he said felt too true, when your boss tells you to do something, you just do it.
The pay was just too good to refuse, so Lin Muqing finally took the bag with both hands, thanked her good buddy, and happily went upstairs.
“Hmph~”
Watching her leave, the corner of Ye Ziming’s mouth lifted slightly, as if he was thinking about something.
As he thought, his eyes narrowed a bit. He figured maybe he didn’t even need to do anything, Lin Muqing would eventually reveal her disguise on her own.
But at the same time, he felt he had to act. He couldn’t risk someone else seeing through that disguise first.
Even if he wasn’t in a hurry to reveal it, he absolutely couldn’t let anyone else be the one to expose her. A strange kind of possessiveness.
“Hmph-hmph~”
Humming a little tune, she walked to her apartment door and went inside.
Before she left this time, she had remembered to turn on the entryway light, something she had forgotten last time.
The entryway was just the small space between the front door and the living room, usually just enough for a shoe rack.
She turned on the lights in the living room and plopped down on the couch, then started opening the “blind box.”
“Emmm.”
After opening the shoebox and seeing the shoes, Lin Muqing frowned slightly, then raised her eyebrows in surprise.
To be honest, the shoes looked really nice. The only “problem” was… no matter how she looked at them, they were clearly women’s shoes, not something a guy would wear.
Staring at the casual shoes, she hesitated a little, but after thinking it over, she still decided to try them on.
After all, this was a gift from her good buddy. No matter what, she had to try them on.
Once she put them on, she walked back and forth in the living room, and was surprised to find that they fit perfectly and were super comfortable.
Which raised a new question, how did her good buddy know her exact shoe size?
Just as she finished trying them on and was about to take them off and put them back in the box, her phone on the table suddenly lit up.
She looked down and casually opened WeChat. It was a message from her good buddy.
[Good Bro: Do the shoes fit?]
Seeing this message, Lin Muqing quickly looked up and glanced around, wondering, Are there cameras in here or something?
Looking at her shoes, she had just tried them on.

[Good Bro: From now on, remember to wear the clothes I bought you to work.]
She had just sent a meme, and he immediately replied, within a second.
“Ah, this…”
Her eyebrows twitched after reading that, and she frowned slightly, her expression becoming a little complicated.
She thought, there’s already a uniform at the coffee shop. What difference would it make what she wears on the way there?
Lin Muqing didn’t quite get it, so she didn’t agree right away and instead replied with a question.
[Lin Muqing: What if I forget by accident? Cat begging.jpg]
Since he was her boss, she couldn’t speak too bluntly. If she just said she didn’t want to wear it, things could get tricky.
Yeah… better to go with the safe route.
[Good Bro: Then I’ll count you as skipping work.]
Just a moment ago, she still had a smile on her face, wondering what kind of reply he’d give.
But after seeing that response, her smile froze immediately.
[Lin Muqing: For the sake of our strong friendship…]
[Good Bro: I’ll personally drive you home to change. ( ̄_, ̄ )]
Another instant reply, this time with a strange emoji.
Looking closely, it seemed to be the infamous “crooked smirk” face.
Her good bro rarely used emojis like that. His WeChat messages were usually super short, and he hardly used memes.
Emmm… She didn’t know how to describe him today, and in the end, just gave up.
There’s a saying, when someone feeds you or helps you, it’s hard to say no.
Her good bro was also her direct boss, and for that sweet salary… she’d just go all in!
[Lin Muqing: Okay. Poor me.jpg]
She ended the chat, put the shoes away, and started taking care of her nightly tasks.
Things like taking a shower, doing her homework, and even pulling out the vacuum cleaner to clean up the house a bit.
While doing all that, she kept thinking about something, about what Sister Yu said about going to the anime convention.
If she went with online friends, there was a big chance she’d run into people she knew, either coworkers or classmates.
And whether she went as a guy or as a girl, it’d be really awkward. Getting recognized would be a total social disaster.
But if she followed Sister Yu’s advice, letting her do her makeup and help her not be recognized…
It seemed like she didn’t really have other options. If she wanted to go to the con, that was the only way.
While thinking about this, she finished all her tasks, sat down at her computer with a cup of red date goji tea, and hit the power button.
[Old Iron: You joining or not? Dog head.jpg]
Before her game could even launch, a QQ message from a friend popped up.
[Mumu-chan: Coming~ Coming~.jpg]
She replied with a meme, but still felt unsure. She didn’t know how to bring up the anime convention thing.
Being a flake like this… she’d probably get “cooked into pigeon soup,” right?
After logging into the game, Old Iron already sent a party invite, which she accepted right away.
[Mumu-chan: Hey, I’ve got something to tell you.]
Once the game session was about halfway through, she sent a pigeon meme, then hesitantly typed a message and sent it.
[Old Iron: Hmm]
[Mu Mu-chan: emmm]
[Mu Mu-chan: I might be a little busy this weekend… about the anime con, I might not be able to go.]
She sent the message in one go, then took her hands off the keyboard and stared nervously at the screen.
She was already mentally prepared to be scolded.
But she had already thought of a backup plan to make it up to them, so she wasn’t too panicked.
