Chapter 11: Now, Imagination Time
Looks like this guy didn’t recognize me at all.
Lin Muxi secretly felt happy.
She had noticed that Xiao Luyu kept looking at her. At first, she was scared he might recognize her, but now it seemed he really had no idea who she was.
What she didn’t know was that Xiao Luyu was already looking at her in a strange way. He had completely mistaken her for Mo Ziyang’s official girlfriend.
With Xiao Luyu leading the way, the three of them soon arrived near a big stage in the center of the hall, where a performance was about to start.
“We’re here,” Xiao Luyu said, stopping and looking at Mo Ziyang for instructions.
“Looks good. Let’s go to the judges’ seats. And tell them to add one more chair,” Mo Ziyang said after scanning the area. He then told Xiao Luyu to get a chair for Lin Muxi.
“Wait… this is your event?”
Lin Muxi looked at the huge stage with her mouth wide open, shocked by how much money Mo Ziyang must have spent.
Sure enough, her poor life experience could not imagine the spending power of the rich.
“Not exactly. I just sponsored it a little,” he replied.
“How much is ‘a little’? Do you mean a tiny bit or an insanely huge bit?”
Sensing a key detail, Lin Muxi’s curiosity was instantly triggered.
“Over a hundred thousand yuan.”
“…Sorry for asking.”
Lin Muxi regretted it so much. She was already broke, and now hearing this just made her feel worse. Clearly, the happiness and sadness of different people are never the same.
Mo Ziyang glanced at her disappointed face and chuckled. Then, with a small smile, he added,
“Come on. Soon they’re holding a big cosplay contest here. The cosplayer with the highest score will get ten thousand yuan.”
“What?! Ten thousand?!”
Lin Muxi froze in place, eyes wide, counting zeros on her fingers.
“Wow… that’s four zeros… so much…”
Since she didn’t have much money, her living expenses, after rent and bills, were usually only one to two thousand yuan a month. Ten thousand could cover her for five months!
Thinking about it made her drool. Even in the worst case, she could use it to play games or eat out.
Then her brain lit up, she could join the contest herself! Her eyes instantly shone with determination.
Yes, Lin Muxi would enter and win that five-month supply of food and fun.
While she was busy imagining her victory, she didn’t notice Mo Ziyang trying hard not to laugh.
There was no prize money. It was just an excuse to trick Lin Muxi into joining.
“I’m joining too! Where do I sign up?”
Mo Ziyang pointed to the registration area not far away.
In a flash, Lin Muxi ran off. Mo Ziyang held his head and smiled, thinking about how simple-minded she could be, letting him trick her and still thinking she was making a profit.
“So… who is she really? Just tell me,” Xiao Luyu finally asked, unable to hold back his curiosity after watching them bicker.
“My maid, that’s all,” Mo Ziyang replied casually, giving away nothing. Then he walked to the judges’ seats and sat down.
“A maid? No way. There aren’t many people who can argue with you like that, let alone just a maid,” Xiao Luyu said.
Mo Ziyang only smiled quietly in response… This guy was smart, but not too smart.
………………………………
“One… ten thousand… ten thousand…”
At this time, Lin Muxi was happily walking toward the contest registration desk, almost skipping with joy. Her cute moves and cheerful steps caught the attention of many people around.
When she overheard a few people saying things like “That young lady is so pretty,” her face instantly turned red. She quickly stopped her silly, happy steps.
For someone who is shy around strangers, this was way too embarrassing. And the worst part, she’s actually a guy inside! Yet people were calling her cute… not just one person, but a whole bunch!
Lin Muxi had never suffered this kind of humiliation before. Even though she was spending her best bro Mo Ziyang’s money, she silently wrote his name down in her mental “revenge list.”
“I want to sign up!”
Finally reaching the registration desk, she let out a breath of relief. The stares along the way had made her feel both awkward and uncomfortable. Not only that, but people kept trying to take pictures with her. After the photos, they would ask for her WeChat, her QQ number… and some even directly asked how much for one night…
Sigh… too exhausting to even talk about. She never expected an anime convention to be like this.
“Hey, aren’t you that cat-ear maid girl from the internet? So cute! Can I touch you?”
“Uh? What’s going on?”
Hearing this, Lin Muxi looked blankly at the two white-haired girls who were working at the registration desk.
“Huh? You don’t know? Your video is almost number one on today’s trending list.”
Seeing that she still looked confused, the two girls took out a phone, opened a certain pink app, and showed her. Second place on the trending chart was a video of Mo Ziyang at the convention, protecting her and punching a guy who tried to take secret photos.
“‘Cold and Rich Young Master Protects His Wife Live’… What the heck? Who came up with that title?!”
Lin Muxi was speechless. If she knew who posted it, she would definitely drag them out and teach them how dangerous the world really is.
How did she suddenly become someone’s little wife? And that Mo Ziyang guy… no way! She tried to picture Mo Ziyang with a girlfriend, but quickly shook that thought out of her head. He just didn’t seem like the type.
Sighing helplessly, she finished registering and was about to go back to Mo Ziyang when the two excited girls stopped her again.
“Um, can we take a picture with you?”
Lin Muxi turned and saw them holding their phones like hunters spotting prey.
“I… I’m in a hurry…”
In the end, after they begged her over and over, she couldn’t refuse and agreed to take some pictures with them.
“Didn’t you say just one picture? How many have you taken already?!”
“Aww, since we’re already taking them, might as well take more.”
“Yeah! Oh, by the way, is that young master really your boyfriend?”
Forced to play along, Lin Muxi rolled her eyes at these two unpredictable girls. She was already thinking hard about how to escape.
Her big eyes darted around the area until she spotted the restroom not far away.
“No, no, I have to go to the toilet. You two take pictures by yourselves.”
Without looking back, she threw those words over her shoulder and ran toward the restroom, afraid they might pull her into another photo.
On the way, Lin Muxi was really confused, she was just wearing a maid outfit, so why were all these people acting like she was their idol and rushing to take pictures with her?
Obviously, this “little maid” had no idea how cute she looked, or how charming her shy expressions were. Who wouldn’t like a sweet, blushing, cat-ear maid?
When she got to the restroom area, she stopped in her tracks.
A bunch of male cosplayers were walking into the women’s restroom, and some girls were going into the men’s restroom. It was so strange that she froze. She knew things like this happened at conventions, but seeing it in person still felt ridiculous.
For a moment, she didn’t know whether she should go into the men’s room or the women’s room.
Logically, she was a girl now, so she should go into the women’s room. If she went into the men’s room and someone found out, they’d probably think she was a pervert and kick her out.
But in her heart, Lin Muxi still saw herself as a man, a real man! So going into the women’s restroom? No way!
