Chapter 23: Kid, Do You Have a Death Wish?
“Don’t talk about me. I think you’re the one with some weird habit.”
Seeing Lin Muxi acting cute toward him, Mo Ziyang’s heart was thrown into chaos for a moment. He tapped her on the head with his finger, then acted like nothing happened and went to the noodle stall to order a bowl of noodles from the old lady.
Lin Muxi, rubbing her head from the pain, glared fiercely at her best friend from behind.
That guy was so annoying! One day, she swore, she would get all her dignity back!
Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west, don’t bully a poor youth… uh, boy.
While slurping her noodles, Lin Muxi started imagining a future where she could pin Mo Ziyang to the ground.
“Ah!”
But before she could daydream for long, a sudden flick to the forehead snapped her out of it.
“What are you doing?! That really hurt!”
She covered her head, staring at Mo Ziyang with hurt and confusion in her eyes.
“What were you daydreaming about?”
“I was thinking about kissing you, mua.”
“Ah!”
Her comeback was instant, and so was Mo Ziyang’s “greeting.” In the next second, she was clutching her head with both hands after receiving a solid punch.
Ugh, so painful! What grudge do you have against me? Lin Muxi felt so wronged, she almost teared up.
Meanwhile, Mo Ziyang sat down in front of her like nothing happened and started eating his noodles.
When he noticed her glaring at him, he lightly tapped his chopsticks against his bowl.
“Eat. Do you want me to feed you?”
Knowing she couldn’t beat him physically or outsmart him, Lin Muxi had no choice but to swallow her anger and eat her noodles.
This scene even made the old lady selling noodles speak up from her stall.
“Young man, be more gentle with your girlfriend! How can you date like that? Look at how pitiful this young girl is.”
“Pfft—hahaha!”
Lin Muxi couldn’t hold it in. She kept eating while laughing at him.
Mo Ziyang, oh Mo Ziyang, you finally got a taste of your own medicine. She gave him a mocking look.
Mo Ziyang waved at the old lady politely, then turned back and glared at Lin Muxi.
“Is that so funny?” he asked in a flat voice, clearly holding back the urge to hit her again.
But Lin Muxi was enjoying herself too much to notice the hidden danger.
“Of course it’s funny. Why wouldn’t it be? I’m laughing so hard I could fly away.”
“I—hiss! Ow, ow, ow!”
Before she could finish her sentence, a sharp pain shot through her foot.
Even without looking, she knew it was the smiling man in front of her stepping on her shoe.
“Still laughing?”
“No more laughing! I’ll die!”
Hearing her quick surrender, Mo Ziyang finally lifted his foot off her shoe.
Lin Muxi’s heart burned with frustration. Other people’s best friends were loyal and supportive. Why was hers like a sworn enemy?
No way! She refused to accept this! She was about to start arguing again.
“You—”
“Hmm?”
But before she could raise her voice, his judging, almost threatening gaze made her lose her nerve.
“You… have to pay for my shoes… you stepped on them and ruined them.”
With him staring at her like that, her tone got weaker, and her eyes even showed a hint of fear.
Ding! Your bank account has received 1,000 yuan.
Right after she finished speaking, Lin Muxi’s phone received a text from the bank. It was clear that the sender was none other than Mo Ziyang.
“Uh… I was just joking…”
“Why talk so much? If it’s broken, buy a new one.”
“Thanks, bro.”
Getting the money made Lin Muxi so happy that she instantly forgot all the ways Mo Ziyang had bullied her earlier. After all, if someone gives you money and you refuse, you’d be an idiot.
With a brother like this, life is already perfect.
One thousand yuan, after buying the shoes, she’d still have six or seven hundred left. Truly, her best friend was the real deal.
Across from her, Mo Ziyang could only smile helplessly at how quickly Lin Muxi’s mood changed.
He really didn’t understand. She was so smart in school, but in some areas, she could be strangely dumb.
Still, this contrast in her… was oddly cute.
“Done eating? Let’s go.”
Seeing that Mo Ziyang didn’t seem to want to eat anymore, Lin Muxi stood up right away to head home.
“Sure, but first come with me to the car. I have something for you.”
“Huh? You even brought me something? Look at you, acting all mysterious.”
The moment she heard he had something for her, Lin Muxi’s eyes lit up like little stars. She grabbed his sleeve and hurried along.
………………………………
A few minutes later, Lin Muxi stood in front of Mo Ziyang’s sports car trunk, holding several pieces of women’s clothing he had picked for her, her face full of dark lines.
“This is your gift? Gee, thanks, Mo Ziyang.”
“No need to thank me. Just wear them for me on Monday and Tuesday.”
Hearing her “thanks,” Mo Ziyang gave her a big smile and nodded.
Lin Muxi, seeing his punchable face, got even more annoyed. Did this guy not understand human speech?
“I wasn’t thanking you.”
“I didn’t ask for your opinion.”
“……”
His quick comeback left her completely speechless.
“You—”
“What you? Let’s go.”
With a bang, Mo Ziyang closed the trunk of his car parked by the road and started walking toward Lin Muxi’s home.
“Hey, wait for me! Whose home is this, mine or yours?”
Watching him walk away, Lin Muxi quickly ran to catch up.
She really didn’t get it, why was Mo Ziyang more eager to go to her house than his own? Wasn’t he mixing up priorities?
But when she finally caught up, Lin Muxi noticed that a lot of people on the street seemed to be looking at her.
Still thinking of herself as a boy, Lin Muxi was carrying a big armful of women’s clothes. The secondhand embarrassment was so strong it crushed her already weak competitive spirit.
She suddenly realized that walking behind Mo Ziyang wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Hahaha.
Seeing her suddenly retreat behind him, Mo Ziyang looked back with a puzzled expression.
“Why are you hiding behind me again? Are we going to your house or mine?”
Her cute little move made him laugh, so he asked her.
“Just keep walking. Why are you talking so much?”
Pushing him lightly, Lin Muxi urged him to hurry up.
And so, she ended up following Mo Ziyang right back to her own house.
“Can’t you change this bad habit of yours?”
When Mo Ziyang realized she was hiding behind him because she was embarrassed, he rubbed his forehead slightly.
“Come on, think from our point of view. Can’t you understand our troubles?”
“Fine, fine, you win.”
Looking at her, Mo Ziyang knew there was no point in arguing, so he gave in.
But winning made Lin Muxi’s strange competitive side flare up again, and she decided to provoke him.
“That’s it? Doesn’t seem like you, Mo Ziyang.”
“……”
Watching her keep poking at him, Mo Ziyang just gave a small smile.
Kid, if I don’t deal with you today, I’ll take your last name.
