Chapter 184: Zhang Hui’s Visit
When they got home from shopping, Li Mu collapsed on the couch, too tired to say a word.
Not only did she have to keep an eye on Xiao Jing who was running all over the place, but just shopping for women’s clothes alone had already left her mentally and physically exhausted.
Originally, she only planned to buy one outfit. But after thinking that similar situations might come up again in the future, she decided to just buy three sets all at once.
Honestly, some of the women’s clothes were really beautiful!
Even though she had never read any fashion magazines and still had the same sense of style she had when she was a man, seeing herself wear pretty clothes through a man's eyes still felt pretty nice.
After all, men understand what looks good on girls best!
It would’ve been even better if those clothes weren’t on her.
She had also thought about eating out while shopping, but there were too many people at the night market. After a moment of thought, Li Mu decided to just order food delivery after getting home.
With such a big crowd, it would be too easy for Xiao Jing to get lost.
“I should buy Xiao Jing a watch with a GPS tracker...” She mumbled to herself. Every time she went out with that little troublemaker, she’d worry about her getting lost again.
“Just buy me a phone instead!” Xiao Jing shouted.
“No way!”
Xiao Jing learned things really fast, and her brain seemed to be full of dirty stuff already. If she could access the internet, she might really turn into a little pervert.
Li Mu still wanted to keep her image of Xiao Jing as a sweet, innocent girl.
Tomorrow, Yu Fan and Li Mu were going to perform on stage together. Right now, Yu Fan was holding his phone and softly humming the song they had practiced so many times.
“Xiao Jing, come sing with me a couple more times,” he said.
“Coming, coming!”
Just as the two sat down together, someone knocked on the door.
Li Mu paused and stood up, muttering, “That was fast for food delivery…”
But when she opened the door, it wasn’t a delivery guy. It was her cousin, Zhang Hui.
“Cousin?”
“Oh, you’re really home. I was just passing by and thought I’d drop in.”
Zhang Hui looked up and stared at Li Mu’s face, freezing in surprise.
If his cousin still looked a little bit like a guy a month ago, now, her looks and presence had nothing to do with “male” anymore.
She was also way prettier, and the coldness on her face from before had softened. She looked much more gentle now.
“I heard you’ve been working with that uncle lately?”
Li Mu turned to open the shoe cabinet and took out a pair of slippers, not noticing the look Zhang Hui gave her.
“Yeah. We handled a few small cases and made a bit of money.”
“Not bad.”
She put the slippers down on the floor and walked back into the room.
Zhang Hui closed the door behind him, put on the slippers, and immediately noticed Xiao Jing staring at him with her big round eyes.
His heart jumped a little.
This really is a ghost!
Even though he had already met a few types of ghosts before, seeing Xiao Jing still made him feel nervous.
Yu Fan waved and greeted him. “Nothing tricky going on with ghosts lately?”
“Nope. Just the usual harmless ones. After we bring them back, we just play some TV or movies for them, and they disappear on their own in a week.”
Zhang Hui’s visit had caught Li Mu by surprise. She casually pulled out a bottle of cola from the fridge, it was one she had bought earlier, and handed it to him. Then she went back to lying half on the couch to rest.
Zhang Hui kept chatting with Yu Fan, but every now and then, his eyes would sneak a glance at Li Mu’s chest.
It was one thing for his cousin to become prettier, but when did she grow a chest too?
“You’re kind of Chen Yi’s right-hand person now, aren’t you?”
Yu Fan joked as he stood up and plopped down next to Zhang Hui, even slinging his arm around his shoulder like they were close.
In truth, the two had only met a few times.
“Not really, I still have a lot to learn.”
Yu Fan looked Zhang Hui up and down. This guy really seemed to have made some money lately, he was wearing new sneakers and a new jacket.
But could you please stop staring at Li Mu?
That’s your cousin, okay!?
Yu Fan crossed one leg over the other and leaned sideways on the couch, completely blocking Zhang Hui’s view of Li Mu.
Zhang Hui quickly noticed how intentional that move was.
Could there be... something going on between Yu Fan and his cousin?
He glanced at Yu Fan’s smiling face and couldn’t help but start wondering about their relationship.
Ever since he started working with Chen Yi to deal with ghosts, Zhang Hui had learned a lot about ghosts. He found out that Xiao Jing was actually his younger cousin who had died years ago, now a ghost with no memories, but also no history of hurting people.
And Li Mu had somehow become more and more beautiful after getting involved with ghosts, though no one really knew why.
As for Li Mu’s actual gender now… he wasn’t sure anymore.
“By the way, cousin, Grandpa wants you to come home for New Year’s.” He sat up straighter and called out to Li Mu over Yu Fan’s shoulder.
“Huh?”
“I sent you a message before, but you didn’t reply.”
Li Mu quickly pulled out her phone and checked. Sure enough, Zhang Hui had messaged her a week ago, but he sent it through WeChat.
She hardly ever used WeChat, except during holidays when the family group did red envelope giveaways. So it had been buried and forgotten in the corner of her phone.
“I need to go back for New Year’s?”
She looked at the message on her phone, then after a short silence, looked back up at Zhang Hui and said, “How about you tell Grandpa I have something going on and can’t make it?”
Li Mu didn’t dare show up in front of her grandpa looking this feminine.
“You’ll probably have to tell him yourself.”
“Then… never mind.” She sighed and mumbled, “I’ll go get a haircut after the competition tomorrow.”
But Yu Fan suddenly panicked and spoke up.
“No! Don’t cut it!”
“My hair’s too long. Grandpa’s definitely going to say something.”
Zhang Hui touched his own short buzz cut and nodded, “Yeah, Grandpa really can’t stand long hair. If you go back looking like that, he’s totally gonna drag you to a barbershop.”
He remembered how, before joining the army, he had tried growing out and styling his hair, only to be dragged straight to get it all chopped off.
"But it took so much effort to grow it this long."
Yu Fan was really into long hair. Even though Li Mu looked nice with short hair, he thought long hair looked even better.
“Sister! Let it grow long!” Xiao Jing suddenly cut in.
Zhang Hui’s eyelid twitched. He quickly interrupted the group, sounding completely shocked. “Sister?!”
Li Mu didn’t even bother responding. She was already used to Xiao Jing calling her that. And honestly, at this point, she really was a girl, inside and out.
“Didn’t Chen Yi tell you about Li Mu’s situation?” Yu Fan asked, looking up at Zhang Hui.
“He just said Li Mu started looking more girly after dealing with ghosts. He didn’t say anything else…” Zhang Hui paused, then guessed, “Wait… you don’t mean she actually turned into a girl, do you?”
Yu Fan responded, his voice full of excitement, "That's right!"
“???”
Li Mu glanced at him. As expected, not everyone could understand her sadness. Ever since Yu Fan found out she had become a girl, he had been way too happy about it every single day.
