[Vol. 7] Chapter 215: Sweet Poison
They continued chatting casually. By the time the green-haired girl walked out of the bathroom, wearing only a towel, with water still clinging to her skin and a soft scent of plants in the air, the messy bedroom had already been completely cleaned and tidied up.
All the scattered trash had been sorted and packed into bags. The bedsheets were neatly folded like little blocks of tofu and placed on the bed. One side of the closed curtains had been drawn open, letting in bright sunlight and fresh air from outside. The room looked completely different from the messy state it had been in when Mia first arrived.
“Wow… this is amazing! Miss Mia, do you know how to clone yourself or something? When I hire someone to help clean, it usually takes at least an hour or two! I want to learn your secret technique for cleaning a room this fast. Please teach me, Teacher Mia!”
Watching the tree girl look around wide-eyed in awe, clearly impressed, Mia who had just put the broom back in the corner simply smiled and shook her head.
“Miss Philoae, I feel like you say something similar every time we meet. This is just a basic skill every professional maid needs to know. Nothing special. If I had to explain it, I’d say it just comes with practice. Anyway, it’s about time... So, are you ready?”
Philoae blinked in surprise.
“Huh? So soon? Usually you’d take a bath too and get everything ready first...”
“Oh… I already bathed before coming. My lady has a lot of work waiting for me, so I’d better save some time.”
Hearing Mia’s explanation, Philoae nodded with a bit of disappointment. Then, as if remembering something, her freshly-bathed face turned slightly red, and she gave a shy but hopeful little nod.
“Ah, right. I almost forgot that you’re now an official working maid. You really seem so cool now... Ahem, well then, let’s begin.”
The girl walked over to the window and closed the curtains again, blocking out the sunlight and any outside view. Mia understood her intention, and removed her disguise, revealing her true vampire form necessary for feeding. Since they had done this many times before, there was no need to explain the steps again.
As the light in the room grew dim, Philoae’s clear eyes started to look a little hazy. She walked over and sat down next to Mia. Just like how lovers might tease each other, she gently reached out and touched the base of Mia’s small bat-like wings that had stretched out from her waist. That area was full of nerves, almost like a sensitive spot, and it could easily excite vampires, making what came next more emotional and intense.
For vampires, drinking blood isn’t just about feeding. It can also be a very enjoyable act for both people involved. This is a natural instinct of vampires, but it’s also what often leads to trouble. Many evil vampires who can’t control their desires end up being hunted down because of this.
Mia closed her eyes, looking calm and relaxed as she enjoyed the tree girl’s soft touch. She didn’t resist it, after all, this was a normal part of the process when both sides agreed. Stirring up emotion beforehand would even help her be more “effective” when she started feeding.
After a few moments of quiet closeness, Philoae seemed to want to lighten the mood a bit. She glanced at the curtain she had just drawn and asked in a soft, curious voice, almost like whispering to a lover:
“By the way, Miss Mia… You’re a vampire, but you don’t seem afraid of sunlight at all. Are those rumors people tell just made up?”
Mia didn’t pull away as the warm breath from Philoae’s lips gently brushed her cheek. Instead, she smiled, turned toward the tree girl in the darkened room, and wrapped her arms around her slim waist.
Then she gently rested her slightly exposed fangs on Philoae’s freshly bathed, smooth neck, which smelled faintly of flowers. Her voice was low and very different from her usual cheerful tone.
“It’s true that vampires are usually afraid of sunlight. But I have a special kind of body, I’m more resistant to it. Miss Philoae, you seem extra curious today. Didn’t we agree not to dig too deep into each other’s personal secrets?”
“Th-that’s because… um~”
Philoae seemed like she wanted to say something more, but before she could finish, the scent of fresh blood and the teasing had already stirred Mia’s hunger. The vampire girl bit into the soft skin of her neck, her sharp fangs, coated with a special saliva that caused slight numbness, piercing into a blood vessel. Whatever words Philoae had been about to say turned into a soft, uncontrollable moan.
To make feeding more effective and safe, a vampire’s fangs contain special body fluids with various effects. These fluids can numb the target’s nerves and give them an intense feeling of pleasure that’s hard to describe. The higher a vampire’s rank and the purer their bloodline, the stronger these effects usually are.
There’s a saying that once a person is bitten by a vampire, they become their servant. That idea isn’t just made up. It mainly comes from the effects of the fluid on a vampire’s fangs. But only high-ranking vampires, at least third-generation dukes or above, can make these effects last for a long time. Vampires like Mia can only make the effects last for a short while.
No matter how strong or mentally tough a person is, unless their body works beyond normal human limits, once a vampire starts feeding, they usually can’t resist. Their mind goes completely blank.
This feeling is a lot like being on a drug, it can’t be fought off with willpower alone. Besides the payment they get, many of the “friends” who agree to give blood to vampires regularly do it because they can’t resist or even enjoy the pleasure of being bitten. Miss Philoae was clearly one of those people.
Before Mia became a vampire, she offered her blood to Head Maid Yulia. She knew very well how that felt, and how hard it was to resist.
That’s why people who really understand vampires, especially the strong fighters who face them often, all know one thing. No matter how strong you are, you must never let a vampire bite your neck when you’re alone with them. If that happens, it almost always means total defeat in a life-or-death fight.
“Gulp… gulp…”
As she slowly drank the sweet and pure blood of the tree girl in front of her, blood that tasted like flower nectar, Mia also watched her closely. Just like always, Philoae's body was soft and trembling slightly, her eyes half-closed. She looked completely helpless, like a lamb, letting Mia do whatever she wanted.
While part of Mia felt happy from enjoying such delicious blood, she also started to feel a little suspicious.
To be honest, she hadn’t expected it would be this easy to bite Philoae’s neck. Things were going too smoothly, and that made Mia, a highly trained and sharp-eyed elite maid, feel something was off.
The girl in front of her… was clearly not acting quite right.
