Chapter 111: Let’s Watch the Meteor Shower Together
After leaving the restroom, Lin Muqing ran around blindly for quite a while. She didn’t stop until she was completely out of breath.
There had been a lot of people earlier, which made her panic, so when she started running, she forgot she was supposed to run toward her good buddy. And after running so far, she didn’t even know how far she had gone. She just noticed there was a big Ferris wheel in front of her.
She sat down on a nearby bench, leaned back, and panted for a while before finally catching her breath.
She knew her own body, just a little bit of running already made her exhausted. So based on that, she figured she probably hadn’t gone too far. Thinking this, she pulled out her phone and tried to message her good buddy to tell him where she was.
She didn’t go back to find him directly because she was really worried that her terrible sense of direction would just make her go even farther away from him.
But what she didn’t expect was that just as she sent her location and before her good buddy even replied, Ye Ziming had already appeared right in front of her.
“Boss~”
Seeing her good buddy show up, Lin Muqing was a little surprised and quickly called out to him.
“You must be thirsty,” he said as he sat down next to her. He unwrapped the straw for her milk tea and handed it to her.
“Yup!”
She happily took the milk tea and started drinking it right away.
After running for so long just now, she really was super thirsty. Her throat was dry and uncomfortable, so this milk tea came at the perfect time, like a hero making a perfect entrance. She also thought to herself, He really is my best friend. He knows me so well, seriously.
“Wipe your sweat.”
After giving her the milk tea, Ye Ziming also noticed the sweat on her forehead. So he took out a tissue and was about to wipe it for her himself.
“Oh.”
Seeing his hand reach out, Lin Muqing instinctively reached for the tissue.
But Ye Ziming moved his hand slightly to avoid her touch and then continued wiping her sweat himself.
“I can do it myself,” she said, a little awkwardly.
It felt a bit strange, but Lin Muqing still cooperated and tilted her head up, though she also spoke hesitantly.
“It’s fine. I’ll be done in a second.”
Ye Ziming smiled softly and kept wiping her sweat. He didn’t take her suggestion.
When he finally saw her safe and sound, he quietly let out a sigh of relief. He thought to himself, ‘Good thing I didn’t lose her. Otherwise, I’d have to go back and tear someone’s skin off.’ Earlier, he hadn’t seen the whole thing, just the part where someone tried to do something to Lin Muqing, and then got flipped over her shoulder.
Thinking about it now, even though he had already found her, he still felt like that person needed to be taught a lesson.
It was a strange kind of anger that had suddenly appeared. Just because someone had tried to mess with his Lin Muqing. Ye Ziming couldn’t accept that. Even if it was just a misunderstanding, it didn’t matter. If it made him feel uneasy, then he had to do something about it.
While thinking about this, he kept gently wiping the sweat off her forehead.
After he finished everything, he picked up his own cup of plain tea and took a few sips to quench his thirst.
“This milk tea tastes pretty good.”
A few sips of milk tea made Lin Muqing feel not just less thirsty, but genuinely happy. She felt so much better.
“As long as you like it.”
Hearing her voice pulled Ye Ziming back from his thoughts, and he continued chatting with her. While drinking his tea, he noticed that Lin Muqing, while sipping her milk tea, was slightly lifting her head to look forward. He followed her gaze and saw that she was looking at the Ferris wheel in the amusement park.
“Wanna go on it?”
“Huh?”
While Lin Muqing was staring blankly at the Ferris wheel, she suddenly heard her good buddy’s voice. It caught her off guard, so she didn’t really hear what Ye Ziming said.
“Come with me.”
Ye Ziming didn’t repeat the question. Once he saw that Lin Muqing had snapped out of her daze, he stood up and smiled at her.
“Where are we going?” Still a little confused, Lin Muqing stood up as well.
But Ye Ziming didn’t plan to explain anything. He just smiled gently, took her hand, and started walking toward the Ferris wheel. He remembered that back in their first year of high school, Lin Muqing had once said to him.
“That new Ferris wheel they’re building sounds amazing. I heard it’ll be the tallest in the province. If I have money one day, I definitely want to go on it.”
He had just remembered that, so Ye Ziming figured there was no need to ask. He’d just take her to ride it.
“Umm, I think I’m a little afraid of heights,” she said.
After just a few steps, Lin Muqing realized they were heading toward the Ferris wheel. She didn’t expect that something she casually mentioned back then had actually stayed in her friend’s mind.
“It’s okay. I’m here.”
Ye Ziming turned and smiled at her, giving her a reassuring look before continuing to lead her over.
“Umm…”
That answer felt strange. Lin Muqing didn’t really understand what he meant, but she also didn’t know how to argue against it. It was like, the moment she heard those words, her heart just quietly accepted them. And so, she ended up getting on the Ferris wheel with him.
As the Ferris wheel slowly rose, the view in front of them grew wider and more open.
When they reached the top, they could see almost all of the southern part of the city.
Even though she had lived so many years, this was Lin Muqing’s first time on a Ferris wheel, and her first time realizing how beautiful the city’s southern night view could be.
“Boss, I’ve lived here for so many years, and I never noticed how pretty the south side of the city is.”
As they were about to reach the highest point, Lin Muqing felt excited but also a little scared, because this was no ordinary height. But once she held her good buddy’s hand, that fear seemed to disappear completely, leaving only joy.
“If you like it, I’ll take you up in a helicopter next time.”
While Lin Muqing was looking out the window at the view, Ye Ziming was also watching the scenery, though he kept glancing at her too. Seeing how happy she was made him feel happy as well.
As he said this, he even considered calling home right then and asking someone to send over a helicopter.
“Uhh, that’s not really necessary…”
She turned her head in surprise, looking at her good buddy. She had only been joking a little, she didn’t mean for him to take it seriously.
“Mm.”
Ye Ziming smiled and nodded, quietly looking at Lin Muqing without saying anything else. No one knew what he was thinking at that moment, not even Lin Muqing.
Just as she was looking into his eyes and about to say something, she suddenly noticed something flashing past the window. Curious, she turned her head to look, and then she was stunned.
“Whoa! Is that a meteor shower?”
Lin Muqing had never seen a meteor before, so when she saw this, she almost doubted her own eyes.
One by one, meteors streaked across the sky. With the night view of the southern city in the background, and the perfect timing of being at the top of the Ferris wheel, the moment felt so magical it would stay in her memory for years.
“Yes, it is.”
With his eyebrows raised and eyes wide, Ye Ziming was frozen for a moment before he remembered to answer her.
If he remembered correctly, tonight was supposed to be cloudy, maybe even rainy. Did the weather forecast team drink fake alcohol or something?
