Chapter 83: The So-Called Knights
After finishing her chat with Lin Wenbin, Lin Muqing was about to turn around and talk to her best friend to ask him a few questions.
But then she heard Lin Wenbin suddenly cry out in surprise, which made her curious.
She quietly listened for a bit and managed to catch part of the conversation. It seemed like Lin Wenbin was looking for someone.
Two students from another class were standing next to him, and the three of them chatted for a while before finally walking out of the classroom.
“Who were you looking for?”
After the two students left, Lin Muqing asked Lin Wenbin out of curiosity. She was quite interested in what they had been talking about.
“You know the school beauty ranking, right?”
Lin Wenbin turned to her, glanced carefully at Ye Ziming to make sure he wasn’t paying attention, and then whispered in a very low voice.
“Yeah, I know. Why?”
When she heard the words “school beauty ranking,” Lin Muqing felt a little awkward, because she knew the person ranked number one was actually herself.
But she hid it well. Since Lin Wenbin was acting all sneaky, she also lowered her voice and played along.
“We’re looking for the girl with cat ears dressed like a maid. The new school beauty who’s ranked first.”
Lin Wenbin whispered, then gave a meaningful smirk, looking like he was just one step away from making a goofy face.
While he was talking, he kept watching Ye Ziming closely, worried that Ye Ziming would suddenly glance over and give him trouble.
What he didn’t know was that Lin Muqing was in total shock because of what he just said.
“Why are you looking for her?”
Her eyelids twitched a little. Lin Muqing tried her best to control her expression so Lin Wenbin wouldn’t notice her embarrassment.
She hesitated for a moment, then asked again.
“It’s not just me, we’re all looking for her.”
“All of you?”
Her eyelids twitched again. Lin Muqing had a bad feeling this wasn’t something simple.
“Yeah, we are! Here’s what happened…”
The story was pretty simple. Lin Wenbin and a bunch of bored guys decided to go around trying to find the so-called number one girl on the school beauty ranking.
But even after spending a whole day, they still couldn’t find her. Some of them even started wondering if she was really a student at their school at all.
“How bored are you guys to go do something like that? And just because she’s pretty, what’s it got to do with you? You don’t even have a chance.”
After hearing the story, Lin Muqing looked at him with obvious disapproval.
At the same time, she felt really awkward, because when Lin Wenbin talked about that “school beauty,” he praised her like crazy, as if she were some kind of goddess from the heavens.
This made Lin Muqing feel super uncomfortable. Her emotions were all over the place and hard to describe.
She was really struggling to hide the awkward look on her face!
“You just don’t get it.”
Hearing her reaction, Lin Wenbin changed his expression again. This time to one of pride.
He raised his head and puffed out his chest. And for once, he dropped that creepy smile of his and actually looked kind of serious.
“Oh? And you get it?”
Lin Muqing frowned and scooted away from him. She seriously thought something was wrong with this guy and wanted to keep her distance.
“We’re not looking for her because we’re drooling over her or anything. It’s because, as knights, it is our sacred duty to protect the maid girl’s pure and innocent smile!”
“…What are you even talking about?”
“We all know she’s Brother Ye’s girlfriend, but so what? We just want to protect her, that’s all…”
“Oh my god~”
Listening to Lin Wenbin’s super cringey speech, Lin Muqing finally couldn’t take it anymore. She covered her face with both hands and lay face-down on her desk. This was just too embarrassing.
This so-called knight order. She didn’t think they were just bored. She thought something was wrong with their brains. They needed to be dragged away for treatment.
Whatever, let them go look for her. Even if they turned the whole school upside down, they still wouldn’t find her. After all, she was just a normal strong guy.
“So, do you want to join us?”
“No thanks. Please roll away from me as far as possible.”
She really disliked Lin Wenbin. She thought his brain had never been normal. Sigh...
Not only did this guy say a bunch of shameful, childish things, he even wanted her to join them.
Thankfully, right at that moment, Ye Ziming turned around and gave him a glare, so Lin Wenbin didn’t keep talking to Muqing about all that weird stuff.
Although Ye Ziming had been zoning out earlier, he still heard part of the conversation. He honestly wanted to cover his face out of secondhand embarrassment too.
“Boss, want me to get you some water?”
After a long time, Lin Muqing finally calmed down. She pulled out her water bottle and asked her good buddy.
There was still a little time before morning reading, so she figured she could go get water and maybe use the restroom too.
This time she brought tissues, so she wasn’t worried.
“Yeah.”
Ye Ziming handed her his water bottle without much politeness.
Meanwhile, Lin Wenbin was still playing with his phone, seemingly chatting with someone.
The “we” he mentioned earlier actually included quite a few people. They even had a well-managed QQ group, where they were now passing around information.
They were still trying hard to find the so-called cat-eared maid, the new school beauty.
But no one realized that, from the very beginning, they had already ruled out the correct answer.
In other words, they were digging through all the wrong answers trying to find the right one.

During the homeroom teacher’s class, she brought up the topic of early dating again, and this time, she was very serious about it.

This was a big deal. After being in high school for so long, this was the first time Lin Muqing had heard of such a serious punishment.
“Did something happen? The homeroom teacher clearly seems different today.”
While listening to the teacher, Lin Muqing quietly whispered to her good buddy.
She guessed something must’ve happened in their grade, which was why the topic was suddenly brought up again, and in such a strong way.
“Maybe.”
Ye Ziming glanced at Lin Muqing and replied with a blank expression.
He had only told someone something, and then this happened. So he really didn’t know what was going on.

Seeing that her buddy didn’t know, Lin Muqing didn’t push it. Instead, she asked a new question.
“If we get caught, what will you do?”
She was a little curious. In Lin Muqing’s view, their relationship was fake dating, so even if they got caught, it wouldn’t be a big deal.
They could just explain things clearly to the teachers and it should be fine.
But that kind of explanation would be hard for people to believe. So she really wanted to know what her buddy would do.

Looking into Lin Muqing’s eyes, Ye Ziming gave a silent smile and slowly said.
