Chapter 164: Everything Will Be Okay

“Hm?”

Even though Evelia had spoken softly, Armand still heard her clearly. Her words made him pause for a moment and frown, as if he wasn’t sure he’d heard her right.

Lucky? What’s so lucky about being remembered as the ghost-like person in someone’s nightmare? How could that possibly be a good thing?

“What are you saying? You sound like you’re jealous or something. What’s so lucky about that…”

“Because that person is someone Mr. Armand still remembers. To be someone you care about that much… they must be very important to you, right?”

When Evelia said the words “someone important to you,” she couldn’t help but feel a little unhappy for some reason.

“Hm…” Armand gave a quiet grunt. “Well, you’re not wrong. That person really was important to me.”

“Someone that important to you… was it a childhood friend or something?”

“Childhood friend? Not really. I met them later. By that time, I was already a young adult. It’s not like we grew up together or anything.”

“I see…”

Evelia looked thoughtful.

If they met when Armand was already grown up and he still remembered them so clearly, then it probably wasn’t just anyone. It must’ve been someone special. Someone he cared about… maybe even someone he liked?

“Could it be… someone you had a crush on? Or someone you loved, but couldn’t be with?”

And so, Evelia came to that conclusion.

“Hah?”

That question made Armand nearly sit up in surprise. What was going on inside Evelia’s little head? “Loved but couldn’t be with them”? Did she get that from some strange romance novel?

But before he could get up, Evelia pushed him back down without hesitation, not even giving him a chance to move.

Her hands looked soft and delicate, but she was surprisingly strong…

Lying back down again, Armand couldn’t help but silently complain.

“Eve, don’t your legs feel sore? I should really get up.”

“They’re not sore, Mr. Armand. Don’t worry about me.”

As she said that, Evelia even adjusted his head to make him more comfortable on her lap.

Lying on a beautiful girl’s lap like this was definitely something to enjoy, but staying like that too long wasn’t ideal either. Armand knew how muscles could get sore from staying in one position, and he didn’t want Evelia to be uncomfortable just so he could relax a little.

But Evelia didn’t seem to mind. She just held him gently, softly patting his shoulder like she was trying to lull a child to sleep.

“......”

Armand gave in with a sigh. Looking up, he saw Evelia gazing down at him, and from the look on her face, he could tell, this conversation wasn’t over yet.

“Um…”

Armand hesitated. He was trying to figure out what to say next.

When it came to the dreams, he couldn’t exactly tell the truth. What was he supposed to say? “Hey! You might be living in my old room!” That would sound completely crazy…

“Mr. Armand.”

Just as he was struggling for words, Evelia spoke first.

“That person who’s always in your heart… what kind of person are they?”

Evelia really wanted to know.

She wanted to know who it was that could stay in Armand’s mind like that, so much that it kept him from sleeping.

And if it were her… could she become someone like that?

Could she become that important to him?

Because from the very beginning, Evelia had already made up her mind.

She wanted to work hard… to become someone Armand would fall in love with.

But—

“That kid? Ah—don’t get the wrong idea, we’re not like that. ”

—What exactly is this thing called “liking someone”?

Evelia had been doing everything she could to become the kind of person Armand would like. She tried all kinds of methods, hoping to have a place in his heart. But now, sitting quietly with her thoughts, she suddenly realized she didn’t actually know what “liking” really meant.

“Not like that?”

Evelia had even considered just “copying answers.” First, she copied what she read from a romance novel. Then she copied Anna’s little “tricks.” Now she was thinking, maybe she should just copy the person in Armand’s heart.

Whether she became that person or replaced that person, as long as she could leave a mark in Armand’s heart, then she…

At that thought, Evelia paused.

She adjusted her final thought, from leaving a mark in his heart to calling it “her mission.”

...If that’s the case, then maybe her mission could be completed perfectly.

“Of course,” Armand said, unable to read anything from Evelia’s calm expression. He kept talking, explaining things to her himself. “That kid was a lot younger than me. What I feel toward him… sigh—more than anything, it’s guilt. Because of my mistake…”

Armand stopped there.

Even though he didn’t finish the story, Evelia could already guess the ending just by looking at his expression.

“He died?”

Evelia said it directly, finishing the sentence for him.

“Yeah.” Armand gave a quiet reply, confirming what she said.

After that, he didn’t say anything else. He didn’t look at Evelia anymore either. His head tilted slightly to the side as he stared off into a random corner of the room.

He looked very sad.

Even though there wasn’t any big, dramatic expression on his face, and even though his usual smile had simply disappeared, Evelia could still tell, Armand was deeply upset about this.

But Evelia couldn’t truly feel what he was feeling.

She could sense the emotion, but she couldn’t understand it, couldn’t relate to it, couldn’t connect to someone else’s pain. That was her weakness when it came to emotions, because she had never experienced something like that herself.

Back when Anna reminded her what “sadness” felt like, the feeling only stayed with her for a short moment, then it was gone. What was left was the frustration of not being able to go deeper into that emotion.

She reached out her hand and smoothed the frown on Armand’s forehead. She couldn’t understand this sadness, but she knew one thing, Armand shouldn’t be left stuck in these painful feelings.

“Everything will pass, Mr. Armand.”

She sat there quietly, gently brushing his face, her touch soft and careful. It looked truly kind.

“Everything will be okay.”

Those comforting words were something she had learned from books.

Evelia couldn’t share his feelings, but based on the situation, she felt like those words were the right thing to say.

“Yeah. I know.”

Armand’s eyes looked down, his gaze shifting from side to side as if lost in thought.

And Evelia… she also wasn’t looking straight at Armand.

…Just as she thought, she couldn’t really connect with it.

After all, she was just that kind of person. A cold and distant one.

‘Everything will be okay.’

—In the end, maybe those words were only good for comforting others.
