Chapter 56: It’s Okay, You Can’t Escape Anymore
[Lin Muxi: I’m sorry… I was being unreasonable. Can you come back, please?]
The next morning.
Mo Ziyang woke up in his own room. Lying lazily on his bed, he looked at the message that little fool had sent him in the middle of the night. A smile finally appeared on his face.
So in the end… she surrendered, right?
Mo Ziyang didn’t plan to reply to Lin Muxi’s message. Instead, he decided to just drive straight to her house and see what exactly that silly girl had gone through last night.
He was really curious about what could have made Lin Muxi apologize to him like that.
“Young master? You’re awake?”
Just then, he heard the maid’s voice outside the door. Realizing it was about time to get up, Mo Ziyang got off the bed and grabbed his car keys.
“Come in.”
“Young master, here are your clothes. Breakfast is also ready.”
A little maid came in carrying his neatly prepared clothes and set them aside.
“Go bring the car to the front gate. And tell my grandfather I won’t be eating at home today.”
“Yes, young master.”
…………………………………………
“Why hasn’t Mo Ziyang replied yet… could he really be angry at me?”
On the bed, Lin Muxi looked pale and exhausted. Dark circles hung under her eyes, obviously she hadn’t slept well last night. She had stayed awake the whole night, lost in guilt.
Holding her phone with the chat window still open, she lay there staring at it, waiting for his message.
On her pillow and blanket, faint tear stains could still be seen. The floor was littered with crumpled tissues like little paper balls.
Guilt kept eating away at her. Combined with her sleepless night, her tired body finally gave in.
Her eyelids grew heavy, and before long she drifted off, leaving only a sleeping beauty lying quietly on the bed.
Then she began to dream, a dream so unforgettable.
She dreamed that because of this small mistake, she completely broke her friendship with Mo Ziyang. In the end, he ignored her forever.
In her dream, she was left all alone in the world, helpless and unable to do anything because of her identity. To survive, she was even forced to swallow her pride and take on degrading work.
The dream didn’t feel long, but it stretched through most of her life.
The tragic ending was so painful that even in her sleep, she cried in regret.
She didn’t know how much time had passed…
Suddenly, her phone rang loudly beside her. Lin Muxi woke up with a start.
“Mo Ziyang?”
Seeing his name on the screen, her mind froze. The painful dream replayed in her head like a movie.
No! She couldn’t let that happen! Mo Ziyang belonged to her!
Snapping back to reality, Lin Muxi quickly grabbed her phone and answered the call. But inside, she was nervous, afraid that her good bro would be angry and abandon her.
“H-hello… Mo Ziyang…?” she asked shakily, praying he wasn’t mad.
“What are you doing? Hurry up and open the door.”
“Ah? Oh, oh—coming, coming!”
Lin Muxi froze for a second, then realized he was already outside her house. She jumped out of bed and ran to open the door.
“M-Mo Ziyang… I…”
The moment the door opened, she saw his cold expression. Lin Muxi panicked right away, standing there at a loss for what to do.
“What happened to your face?”
“Huh… my… face?”
Mo Ziyang looked at the silly girl in front of him, who was already flustered and didn’t know what to do. The anger he had just felt from her not opening the door disappeared in an instant.
When he saw the tear marks and the dark circles on her tired face, his heart actually ached instead.
Lin Muxi touched her own face in confusion. Only then did she realize that she must have cried while dreaming in her sleep just now, the tears hadn’t even dried yet.
Sigh… this fool.
Mo Ziyang let out a soft sigh, his eyes full of helplessness. He reached out and gently patted her head.
“You didn’t sleep well at all last night, right?”
“N-no… I did…”
“Hm?”
Seeing her still trying to lie, Mo Ziyang immediately frowned.
That scared Lin Muxi so much that her heart jumped. Afraid he was angry, she quickly admitted honestly.
“N-no… I didn’t sleep well… I couldn’t fall asleep…”
Like a child who made a mistake, she lowered her head, waiting for her good bro to scold her.
“Sigh… what am I going to do with you?”
“I-I’m sorry… I didn’t mean… eh?”
Before she could finish nervously explaining, Mo Ziyang didn’t bother arguing. He simply crouched down and picked her up in his arms.
“P-put me down!”
Being suddenly carried made Lin Muxi’s already messy mind even more panicked. She struggled a little in fear.
But Mo Ziyang could clearly feel it, her struggling was fake. She didn’t really want to get away at all.
“Be good. Go to sleep.”
“…Okay…”
The moment Mo Ziyang turned serious, Lin Muxi instantly behaved. In his arms, she looked just like a little princess.
He carried her into her room, gently placed her on the bed, turned on the air conditioner, and covered her with a blanket. He was about to leave and let her rest alone when—
Before he could move away, Lin Muxi grabbed his clothes from under the blanket.
“What is it?”
“Can you… not leave?”
Her big watery eyes looked up at him pitifully.
Even though she felt a bit safer now with her gentle brother beside her, the dream still haunted her, and she feared it might come true.
So before falling asleep… she needed to confirm once more.
“Sigh… you really are getting dumber.”
Mo Ziyang turned around, leaned against the headboard, and pulled Lin Muxi into his arms, letting her rest on his chest.
“Mhm… then will you hate me?”
Instead of answering back, Lin Muxi buried her red face in his chest, her voice muffled.
Forget about dignity or pride. Right now, she only wanted to be sure her brother wouldn’t hate her.
“What nonsense. Someone as silly as you can’t be found anywhere else. How could I hate you?” Mo Ziyang held her tightly and gently rubbed her head, doing his best to comfort this spoiled little girl.
“I’m not silly…”
Even though she knew he was just trying to make her feel better, Lin Muxi still weakly protested from within his arms.
“Not silly? Then count how long it took you to go from acting like a big boy to—ow! ow, ow, ow—”
Before he could finish, a sharp pain came from his waist. Looking down, he saw that Lin Muxi, annoyed, was pinching his side with her fingers.
Girls always had a special advantage when using this kind of “attack,” and Mo Ziyang was no exception. He cried out in pain immediately.
“Serves you right…”
Seeing him finally beg for mercy, Lin Muxi let go, then rubbed her head against him, and closed her eyes while leaning in his arms.
This time, she didn’t dream of nightmares. Instead, she fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
Mo Ziyang sat quietly on her bed, holding her still. His deep eyes carefully studied her sleeping face.
Even though her face looked tired from worry and lack of rest, to him it seemed more delicate and adorable than ever.
Holding her like this, he slowly closed his own eyes, the smile on his lips growing wider.
She can’t run away anymore… at least not in this lifetime.
