Chapter 207: The Medical Check-up
A few days later, it was time for the health check.
Around 9 in the morning, while class was still going on, Yang Ye came into the classroom and called everyone to gather.
"Everyone, gather up! Get ready, we're going to Qiao High School for the check-up!"
Yang Ye interrupted the math teacher and loudly called the students together.
Soon, Li Mu was surrounded by her three roommates and Yu Fan.
Wang Ruoyan was hugging her from the left, and Chen Li was on the right. But instead of feeling happy about having girls on both sides, Li Mu just felt tired of life and gave Yu Fan, who was walking behind, a helpless look asking for rescue.
I really don’t want to be stuck with this husky-like girl, okay?!
Once the whole class had gathered, they didn’t get a school bus or anything. With Yang Ye leading in the front and the math teacher dragged along like backup, the group of students marched toward Qiao High School.
It would take at least half an hour on foot.
"Yang Ye is so stingy..." Wang Ruoyan muttered. "He can’t even get us a bus? At the very least, let the shorter students take the public bus!"
"Maybe he's worried someone would get lost?" Chen Li said, trying to defend Yang Ye.
Li Mu, sandwiched between the two girls, felt extra uncomfortable and awkward.
Even though she’d lived in the girls’ dorm for quite a while now, she still couldn’t get used to being so physically close to other girls all the time.
But then, she noticed something in Chen Li’s expression. After watching her for a few moments, she teased, "Chen Li, don’t tell me you like our class teacher?"
“Huh?” Chen Li turned her head in surprise. Her face started turning red right away. “No way…”
Judging from her reaction, she clearly had some feelings for Yang Ye.
Wang Ruoyan finally caught on. “Wait, you actually like that old guy Yang Ye?!”
“He is not old, he is 27…” Chen Li replied quietly.
Thinking about it, their age gap isn't that big. It's not totally impossible...
But it still felt a bit strange.
Li Mu was super curious. Chen Li always gave off a shy and timid vibe, so it was surprising she was so bold when it came to love.
To her, liking a teacher was already a pretty brave thing.
“So when are you going to tell him? After the spring exams, you won’t see him again until graduation in June or July, right?”
“I… I don’t know.” Chen Li buried her red face into her chest.
Wang Ruoyan and Li Mu looked at each other, then turned to Lin Yuanyuan and Yu Fan who were walking behind them.
The four of them exchanged looks. They all had an idea of what the others were thinking.
Let’s find a way to send Yang Ye to Chen Li’s bed! — Wang Ruoyan.
Let’s help Chen Li confess her feelings. — The other three.
Even though Yang Ye and the math teacher were there to keep things in order, the students didn’t really walk in perfect lines like elementary school kids. That was just wishful thinking.
Friends who were close grouped together, chatting and laughing along the way.
They finally arrived at Qiao High School after more than half an hour.
Li Mu’s legs were sore from walking. She hadn’t walked this much in a long time.
"These are your medical check-up forms. One per person. Don’t lose them."
After getting her form, Li Mu suddenly thought of something.
“I heard we have to take off all our clothes for the college entrance exam check-up?” she quietly asked Yu Fan. “Is that true?”
“No idea,” Yu Fan scratched his head. He didn’t like the idea of getting undressed for a check-up either.
That made Li Mu feel even more worried.
She followed behind Wang Ruoyan and the others into the school, and only then did she realize how old and small her own vocational school was.
Look at this high school, the front gate looked normal, but once inside, there was a beautiful garden with small bridges and flowing water. Behind that were several large classroom buildings and a sports field.
Classes were still going on, so Li Mu didn’t see many students. But when she stood on her toes to peek into the windows on the first floor, she could see that the students inside were all wearing neat school uniforms. Compared to their group, who wore bright and different kinds of clothes, with dyed hair and makeup, the difference was huge.
If her parents hadn’t left and caused her to do poorly in the high school entrance exams, Li Mu probably would have studied in a high school like this.
The medical check-up was held in an old building on campus.
No one knew what this building used to be for, but now the classrooms had been turned into temporary check-up rooms.
“After your check-up, give the form back to me, then come back here and wait,” Yang Ye told the students while standing in the lobby on the first floor. After that, he found a chair and sat down to wait while the students went to get checked on their own.
Li Mu had planned to follow Yu Fan for the regular check-up items, but before she could say anything, Wang Ruoyan grabbed her and pulled her upstairs.
“Let’s go do the check-up upstairs first. Otherwise we’ll have to wait forever in line!”
She looked helplessly at Yu Fan, only to see that he had already been dragged away by Xu Ze and a few other boys to line up too.
Besides their class, students from the nursing class were also getting checked. Most of those students were girls, so there were long lines in front of the rooms for female health checks.
“I heard after this check-up we still have to go to a hospital?” Li Mu asked Wang Ruoyan curiously.
“Yeah, I think it’s for a chest X-ray or something.”
While standing in line, she looked around nervously, but when some classmates walked by and saw her, they didn’t react much.
At most, they just smiled and whispered to their friends, then walked away quickly.
It was pretty much like what Li Mu expected.
After all, she lived in the girls’ dorm. No matter how careful she was, someone would eventually notice. Plus, with how she looked now, even if she wore boys’ clothes, she still looked like a pretty girl.
Many classmates had probably guessed already, and now that they saw her lining up for the girls’ check-up, it confirmed her gender.
“Yuanyuan, do we have to take off our clothes in there?” Li Mu quickly grabbed Lin Yuanyuan, who had just finished her check-up and came out, and asked quietly.
“Nope. They just lift your shirt to press on your belly or something.”
Li Mu finally felt relieved. But then Wang Ruoyan just had to ask, “Is the doctor a man or a woman? Are they good-looking?”
“She’s an auntie in her forties.”
Li Mu felt like that last question from Wang Ruoyan was totally unnecessary.
“Li Mu?”
She froze for a moment, then turned her head and saw Wu Lei looking at her in shock. “Aren’t you in the wrong line?”
The corner of her mouth twitched. She always thought Wu Lei, her deskmate, would be the first to notice she was a girl, but why did he look so surprised?
And behind him was Zhao Pan, mouth wide open like his jaw had dropped. Wait… he didn’t realize it either?!
“Brother Mu, why are you with them?”
Seriously? These two are clueless!
Zhao Pan came closer and tried to pull her out of the line. “This is the girls’ check-up line. It says right there!”
“......”
Wang Ruoyan was laughing nearby, while Wu Lei and Zhao Pan looked totally confused. They had no idea why she was laughing.
