Chapter 208: Just the Two of Us
“Li Mu... is a girl?”
As Wu Lei and Zhao Pan walked a bit farther away, Wu Lei kept looking back, still shocked.
“No way, you were her deskmate for a whole semester and you didn’t know?” Zhao Pan asked with a frown.
“Well, you were her roommate for half a semester, did you notice anything?”
That question made Zhao Pan stop and think.
Come to think of it, he'd never actually seen Li Mu shirtless. But even so, other than her face looking a bit soft and pretty, there were no signs that she was a girl.
Her chest was as flat as any normal boy.
So how did she suddenly become a girl now?
He scratched his head. “I always thought she was just a guy who liked wearing girls' clothes... you know, a crossdresser or something.”
Since they had lived and eaten together for a while, Zhao Pan really couldn’t figure out how Li Mu managed to hide it all this time.
“Especially her chest. It used to be flat as a pancake.”
“Maybe she started growing later?”
“So that’s why she moved out?”
Zhao Pan didn’t know much about how girls grow up, but he guessed it might be possible for someone to develop at 17 or 18.
Still, the real question was, why would a girl, even if she hadn’t developed yet, live in a boys’ dorm in the first place?
He turned to look at Li Mu, who was lining up at the regular check-up room, and the more he looked, the more confused he felt. But with that face... it all somehow made sense.
After all, how could someone that pretty really be a guy?
After talking for a while, the two of them stopped thinking too hard about it.
Why a girl used to live in the boys’ dorm and called herself a guy wasn’t really their problem. At most, it would just be something funny to talk about later.
The medical check-up went smoothly. About an hour later, Li Mu followed behind a few of her dormmates and finished everything.
There were no health problems, though for someone who was 170 cm, being just over 100 pounds was a little too skinny.
But Li Mu never thought about gaining weight. She was afraid if she started gaining, she wouldn’t be able to stop. Plus, now that she was living as a girl, being thin was actually a good thing.
After the check-up, their group walked back to the high school’s main gate. Yang Ye had been waiting under a big banyan tree nearby for a while.
He was holding an ice cream cone and chatting and laughing with the math teacher, while a bunch of students who had finished the check-up played and joked around nearby.
When he saw Li Mu’s group arrive, he looked up, took their medical forms, and said, “You don’t have class tomorrow morning. If you’re going home for lunch, you can go now.”
Wang Ruoyan looked eager to leave. Chen Li just kept her head down and pulled along her roommate. Li Mu wasn’t really paying attention, she kept looking around.
“Yu Fan went to that store over there to buy snacks,” Yang Ye said with a smile, pointing at a small shop not far away.
Right at that moment, Yu Fan came out of the shop holding drinks and snacks. He looked at Li Mu from a distance, and when their eyes met, he quickly walked over.
“Li Mu!” he called out, smiling warmly and kindly. “Let’s not go back to school. Want to go out for lunch, just the two of us?”
Since Xiao Jing wasn’t around, he of course wanted to use the chance to spend time with Li Mu.
“Go out? Just the two of you?! A date?!” Wang Ruoyan suddenly raised her voice and grabbed Li Mu’s arm. “And you said there was nothing going on between you and Yu Fan!”
Li Mu didn’t bother to answer her. She just walked a couple of steps forward to stand beside Yu Fan.
Even though the two of them hadn’t done anything super close, the jealousy and envy in Wang Ruoyan’s eyes were almost overflowing.
But when she compared her looks and height to Li Mu's, and then reluctantly did a full comparison in every aspect, she realized that besides studying, there wasn’t really anything she was better at than Li Mu.
In the end, she could only grumble bitterly to Chen Li next to her, “What a shameless couple.”
“You shouldn’t say that about them,” Chen Li replied.
Li Mu and Yu Fan didn’t mind. They waved to Yang Ye, then walked away together along the sidewalk.
“Everything was fine with your health check, right?”
After turning a corner and getting out of sight of their classmates, Yu Fan moved a bit closer and gently put his arm around Li Mu’s waist.
Li Mu didn’t push him away. She just smiled and started telling him about running into Wu Lei and Zhao Pan.
Those two dummies, one her old roommate and the other her deskmate were probably the classmates she interacted with the most, and yet they had never figured out she was a girl.
“They probably never even thought about it, right?”
“Yeah, and they don’t have many friends in the class either, so no one mentioned it to them.” She agreed with Yu Fan, then asked, “Where are we going?”
“Let’s find somewhere to eat, and then…” Yu Fan paused, thinking hard. “...an internet café?”
It wasn’t even noon yet, and he really couldn’t think of where to go.
Actually, when he did go out, he mostly just went to internet cafés. Sometimes he’d go hiking with Xu Ze or other friends, but since they still had classes in the afternoon, that didn’t really work either.
“All you ever think about is internet cafés…”
“There’s no art exhibit to see right now,” Yu Fan scratched his head. “I do want to go to a big city sometime, maybe see an art show or an anime convention.”
“Let’s eat first.”
Li Mu was already used to how boring he could be. Or maybe, most boys their age just weren’t that interesting.
They strolled slowly down the street, and Li Mu’s body began to relax. She leaned lightly against Yu Fan’s side.
She really enjoyed this peaceful moment. Yu Fan’s broad shoulders made her feel very safe.
“Which college do you want to go to?”
“Somewhere far away… but the spring entrance exam only lets us pick schools in our province.”
“How about Ludao? It’s a big city, and it’s kind of far.” Li Mu tilted her head slightly and looked up at Yu Fan’s face. “Once we’re in college, you’ll probably start flirting with a lot of girls.”
“You’re just making stuff up.”
“Then maybe a lot of girls will flirt with you.”
Yu Fan couldn’t really argue with that. After a short pause, he said casually, “Anyway, I’m not that interested in other girls. Can they even play games with me? I'm much more worried about someone else stealing you from me.”
He honestly found hanging out with girls not as fun as spending time with his guy friends.
One of the big reasons he liked Li Mu was that she still had a bit of a “guy” personality, which made being around her really easy and fun.
“How can that be?”
"Seriously, have you never looked at yourself?"
Right now, even without makeup and dressed casually, her beauty still can't be concealed. A beautiful face, a big chest, and captivating long legs, even just one of those would be enough to catch the attention of many men, let alone all three combined.
In the future, when Li Mu starts putting on makeup and wearing beautiful clothes, Yu Fan will have to put in a lot of effort to protect his girlfriend from the guys out there.
“It’s a little cold…”
A chilly wind blew across her face. Li Mu pulled her coat tighter and leaned even closer to Yu Fan.
“I saw on the weather forecast that next week it won’t be this cold. It’s just because of a cold front this week,” Yu Fan said, noticing her shiver.
After thinking for a moment, he unbuttoned his coat and wrapped it around both of them.
The long coat barely covered Li Mu’s body, but on a busy street, this kind of thing looked a bit odd and made a few people turn to look at them.
Li Mu’s voice got very soft, and she spoke in a quiet tone only the two of them could hear.
“People say that college is like a small version of society, and it can change you a lot.”
“Yeah, well, I’ll just become better.”
“If we end up at different colleges, that means we’ll be in a long-distance relationship, right? And I heard those don’t really work…”
“Then I’ll visit you every week. So what if it’s long-distance? Some people even make international relationships work.”
The two of them were completely lost in their own little world, not caring at all about the looks they were getting from other people.
