[Vol. 7] Chapter 258: The Right to Walk Together
At first, Lenka was worried that Sister Light would soon run out of energy. But what surprised her more and more was that not only did Sister Light not seem tired, she actually became stronger and stronger as the never-ending battles continued. You could even see how quickly her strength and presence were growing.
Those monsters didn’t seem like real living creatures. Every time one was defeated, its body would turn into countless glowing white lights that would float into Sister Light’s body, healing her wounds and restoring her energy. It was like she became brand new again.
And as Sister Light got stronger, the monsters coming out of the gate also became tougher. By the end, Lenka felt like some of them were almost as powerful as the Frost Dragon itself, so strong that in the outside world, they could probably squash her with just one hit.
To be honest, Lenka still couldn’t understand how Sister Light managed to stay mentally strong during such intense fighting. Except for the short times when Sister Violet brought food, she was basically fighting to the death day and night, without any real rest. Even if her body could be healed by those white lights, the mental stress from all that fighting would have broken most people long ago.
Well, Lenka Dorgon definitely knew she couldn’t have done it.
It was through watching all this up close that Lenka started to truly realize something for the first time, Sister Light was fundamentally different from ordinary people like her.
At first, this difference made Lenka feel a bit sad and scared. Sometimes when she looked into Sister Light’s eyes, those glowing golden eyes that looked like they were on fire, she would feel an instinctive fear and would quickly look away without meaning to. It was like a natural response, something that came from deep inside her. Lenka knew it wasn’t right, but she still found it hard to stop that feeling.
According to Sister Violet, it was because Sister Light was going through a fast evolution, and she couldn’t fully control the pressure and aura her body gave off yet. Once she got used to it, things would go back to normal.
But Lenka didn’t want to just wait for Sister Light to adjust for her sake. As a friend, even if she couldn’t be as strong, she should at least be able to stand beside her and talk like equals. If she couldn’t even handle Sister Light’s presence, or dare to look her in the eyes, then wouldn’t that be too cruel for Sister Light?
To help her deal with this situation, Sister Violet quickly arranged for Lenka to start a different kind of training, meditation.
But this wasn’t ordinary meditation.
During the process, Lenka had to place her palm on a huge gate called the [Dragon Gate], which stood tall like it reached all the way to the sky. While touching it, she had to keep meditating under the intense pressure it gave off.
Sister Violet had said more than once that Lenka had an extremely rare talent for spirit magic, so rare that even among dragonkin, it might only appear once in a hundred years. Some even said her talent could match or surpass that of mythical beings. With this gift, she might one day reach the legendary or even transcendent level in this kind of training. She was considered a true genius.
In comparison, the innate dragonkin magic power she was born with was seen as less important. It was only because the dragonkin had long lost the methods to train it that this talent had been overlooked until now.
To be honest, Lenka still didn’t fully understand all of this. But she did know that it was something really good. She had already seen how effective Sister Violet’s training could be back when they trained the [Experimental Class] at Sainz, so she trusted her deeply and agreed to follow the plan completely.
At first, Lenka felt very confident. She thought it wouldn’t be a big deal, just a bit of pressure, maybe some discomfort while meditating, nothing too bad.
But the moment she actually touched the [Dragon Gate] with her hand, she finally understood what real pressure meant.
Forget meditation, the terrifying power that rushed into her almost knocked her out instantly. She lost consciousness on the spot, without even being able to fight back. It was only thanks to Sister Violet’s healing that she finally woke up.
Later, she found out that the [Dragon Gate] was a legendary artifact, created by the Dragon God himself with the combined power of the entire dragon race. It was the origin of all dragonkin. In a way, touching the [Dragon Gate] was like standing face-to-face with the Dragon God’s overwhelming presence.
No wonder it knocked her flat the moment she touched it.
She heard that if Sister Violet hadn’t been there to help, just that one shock from the [Dragon Gate] would’ve been enough to knock her out for at least three full days and nights, and might have even caused serious, permanent damage to her soul.
Normally, no one would choose such a painful and dangerous method to train their mind. It would be like running nonstop from morning to night every day without sleep, trying to get stronger, but ending up breaking down before seeing any improvement.
But what truly shocked Lenka was that even when facing the soul-crushing pressure and damage caused by the [Dragon Gate], Sister Violet was somehow able to heal her completely, almost instantly, like it was no big deal. It was because of her that this impossible training method actually worked, and worked incredibly well.
After being knocked out and healed again and again, over a hundred times, Lenka’s soul finally became strong enough to survive touching the [Dragon Gate] without fainting right away. Then, after going through what felt like endless torture, she slowly started to be able to stay conscious and even begin to meditate while still keeping her hand on the gate.
That whole time felt even worse than the famous torture methods used by the Empire’s Intelligence Bureau. If it wasn’t for Sister Violet completely healing her every time, and if she hadn’t had the fear of being left behind by Sister Light, Lenka probably would’ve given up on the first day.
Every morning during the special training, she would still be taken back to Sainz by Sister Violet to compete in the tournament as usual. Then at night, she would return through the teleportation gate to join Sister Light and spend the whole night meditating in front of the [Dragon Gate]. It was safe to say she was using every moment of her time to the fullest.
Even though the training was like a living nightmare, it definitely gave her amazing results. Lenka knew very well that if she had tried to train on her own, she would probably never reach this level in her entire life.
She first noticed real changes in herself on the third day of the training, during the second match back in Sainz, after the [Morst Underground Labyrinth] Exploration Tournament ended.
The enemies were so weak. Seriously, unbelievably weak.
In that match, Lenka finally understood why Sister Light always looked so bored and uninterested when dealing with those weak challengers. For the first time, she also learned how to go easy on someone in a fight, how to use just enough strength to win without hurting them too badly.
To be honest… it was kind of a weird feeling.
