[Vol. 7] Chapter 287: Catastrophe
Now she finally understood, the mismatched eye color didn’t come from the [Wheel of Fate] at all. It was a mark left by Hen on Carinvega, meant to help her and to give Violet a clue.
Carinvega Frederick was the clue Hen had left behind for her. In other words, the unknown goal and plan of the Twilight Council was definitely deeply connected to the [Wheel of Fate] and its duties!
[It seems… the time has come.]
Ignoring the way the priestess’s face changed expression again and again, the [Agent of Fate] simply looked up once more at the collapsing sky above them, which was about to shatter completely under the pressure of an outside force.
[I must say, this space of yours is quite impressive. Not only does it block off part of the [Fate] power inside me, but even while facing such a strong backlash from the [Wheel of Fate] itself, it’s held out this long. That must be some kind of high-level power related to law themselves… but no matter what kind of space this is, even in the vast multiverse, there’s no law spirit stronger than the [Wheel of Fate], and it still can’t protect us forever…]
Looking calmly at the black-haired girl who was deep in thought, Carinvega spoke plainly:
[When this space breaks completely, you need to leave right away. The backlash from the [Wheel of Fate] is aimed only at me. As long as you don’t get too close or try to fight it, you should be able to survive with your strength. It’s just a shame, this failure means we’ll probably have to wait hundreds of years to try again. Everything’s been wasted.]
"Huh?"
Violet, who had just calmed down after learning such a major clue, gave the red-haired girl a sharp look, as if she were staring at an idiot.
[What nonsense are you talking about? Since it’s already clear that you’re connected to Hen’s plan, how could I possibly just let such a key clue slip through my fingers or get destroyed? Besides, if Carinvega really dies, that would be a big problem for me too…]
The not-quite-real Carinvega blinked in surprise.
[What do you mean? You’re not seriously thinking of directly fighting the [Wheel of Fate], are you? That would be completely meaningless. Forget the fact that its power and authority are far above that of any [Agent of Fate], as a spirit that doesn’t even have a real self, it can’t be fought in any normal way. Even with that strange staff of yours, you can’t beat something that can’t be hit. Because in a way, the [Wheel of Fate] is something that… doesn’t truly exist.]
[Because of the energy I just released, this body is now completely locked by fate. Even if the battle lasts a hundred or a thousand years, the backlash from fate will never end. Fighting against It is completely…]
“CRACK!! BOOM!!!!!!!”
Before the girl could finish her sentence, the sky above the [Iron Blood Arena], already covered in cracks, could no longer hold. Under immense pressure, it shattered completely. The special rules of the arena space disappeared like bubbles, and the real-world laws and forces rushed in wildly, filling the space again.
The world around them changed drastically. The familiar ruins and the cityscape of the Academy reappeared in front of the two girls. While the red-haired girl hesitated to speak, Violet turned away without a second thought.
“Why waste time talking? I said I’ll do it, so I’ll do it!”
At that moment, the [Origin Storm] above Sainz had already been swallowed by swirling black clouds and vortexes. Facing the terrifying gaze of the [Eye of Fate] in the sky, the priestess raised her staff high without hesitation, pointing it into the air.
“In my name, appear! [Eternal Light of Protection]!!!”
“Wmmm~~~”
A golden light bloomed beneath her feet like a sacred flower, holy golden lotus petals spreading in all directions.
The dazzling flower of flame quickly wrapped around its creator. Its glowing petals grew layer by layer, and the clear golden barrier that spread from it extended endlessly outward.
In just a moment, the light barrier replaced the [Origin Storm], once again covering the now-defenseless city of Sainz. But even then, the crystal-like light shield didn’t stop. As the golden flower at the center continued to bloom, the barrier grew higher and higher, shooting up toward the black sky with unstoppable force!
“BOOM!!!!!!”
As if it sensed resistance, or perhaps just by coincidence, a massive black lightning bolt, over ten meters wide, struck down from the center of the vortex like divine punishment. It smashed into the top of the great golden barrier, shaking the air with a deep, thunderous boom like the earth itself trembling.
And yet… it didn’t move an inch.
The golden barrier only rippled with waves of light, it didn’t even suffer the slightest crack. The falling black lightning was completely absorbed and dissolved, as if this was a divine light crafted by the gods. Even against such overwhelming power from the heavens and earth, it stood firm like a giant stone, showing strength equal to its enemy.
“BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!”
After the first strike failed, the lightning didn’t stop, it only grew stronger. Countless bolts of black lightning flashed again from the dark sky, turning into a raging sea of destruction. They crashed continuously against the fully expanded golden wall, creating deafening roars and waves of energy that shook the heavens and earth.
Feeling the feedback from the [Eternal Light of Protection], even Violet couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. She had already taken the [Wheel of Fate] seriously, but now she realized its true strength was even greater than she expected.
In fact, every single one of those lightning bolts, including the first one, was an attack above the eighth-tier, which meant they were at god-level power. And now, such terrifying strikes were falling like endless rain, as if they cost nothing. It was truly terrifying.
If she hadn't acted in time, not only would the Academy City Sainz be destroyed, everything within dozens of kilometers around it, possibly even the distant Dragon Mountains, would’ve been reduced to a scorched wasteland. Nothing would survive.
This attack held nothing back. It was launched with the sole goal of destroying everything, far worse than a natural disaster. It was a true catastrophe.
While an eighth-tier attack wasn’t especially difficult for Violet to handle, and would be considered a basic-level attack to a true god. If thousands or tens of thousands of such strikes fell all at once like a storm, even a tenth-tier forbidden spell like the [Eternal Light of Protection] couldn’t hold them off forever without her direct support.
This spell could absorb magic from the air to repair itself, making it theoretically able to last forever. But if the damage it took kept going faster than it could repair, it would eventually use up all the energy stored inside and break.
So if this lightning storm really had no end, and Violet didn’t want Sainz to be destroyed completely, she would have no choice but to stay here and keep the barrier up. That would clearly be a very troublesome situation.
Even without showing the special effects of the Fate power, just attacking like this with raw force already showed enough power to threaten even tenth-tier spells. The [Wheel of Fate] being called the strongest spirit in existence, one that could even surpass the main gods, was clearly not just an exaggeration.
