[Vol. 7] Chapter 297: The Closed Loop of Fate
“Hmph…”
The Priestess curled her lips, but didn’t really argue against Timos' point, nor did she confirm anything. She quickly changed the subject.
“Then, the second question. When and how did you first come into contact with the God of Subversion and Paradox, and how much do you know about the so-called [Twilight Council]?”
The [Immortal Magician] smiled slightly and nodded.
“This question is simple. First, the Twilight Council is actually a very loose group. The God of Subversion and Paradox doesn’t completely represent or equate to the Council. You don’t need to read too much into the actions of each member. The god just needs a representative in this world to do certain things, and I need to work with Him to observe the Council’s movements and gain the power to change the situation. It’s just a simple cooperative relationship.”
“I remember I previously mentioned that, when facing the threat of the [Western Calamity], I saw the [Revelation] and used it to resolve the crisis the Human United Kingdom was facing. But the power didn’t appear out of nowhere. Even though I borrowed causality from the future to change fate, that mysterious force didn’t directly alter reality.”
“Similarly, though the [Revelation] is mysterious and profound, it doesn’t have any substantial combat power. The reason I was able to do many things was actually because of the help from the God of Subversion and Paradox.”
“After disappearing from the kingdom, I don’t know why, but I ended up deep in the western desert, near the edge of the world where the suppression force is weaker. That’s where I first made contact with the god and established our cooperative relationship.”
“You should know that the God of Subversion and Paradox loves those strange and inexplicable individuals that He cannot fully understand or interpret. In exchange for helping Him experiment and serving as one of His representatives, I gained enough power to protect the kingdom, preventing the Four Calamities and keeping the monsters at its place. That’s how the Human United Kingdom was able to gradually develop in that remote wilderness and reach where it is now.”
“So that’s what happened…”
The Priestess raised an eyebrow, thinking deeply.
She had heard about the Human United Kingdom not being invaded by the [Four Disasters] ever since her first encounter with [South Disaster Mirage] a long time ago. But the reality was that not just the [Four Disasters], but most of the disasters and mythological creatures from the original lands, which most people cannot fight against, would avoid this country unless absolutely necessary. They rarely appeared within its borders.
For example, more than three hundred years ago, the fierce battle between the Black Bird and the Red Dragon above Flame Dragon City, they likely fought to the point of no clear winner, stumbling into the kingdom’s airspace without realizing it. But such situations are actually very rare.
Because of this, the Human United Kingdom has been able to develop steadily for over 800 years, despite its weak single-tribe structure, building a strong foundation and becoming one of the five major world powers today.
Anyone with clear eyes can tell that this situation is completely illogical, and there must be some external force at play. The people of the kingdom seem to think it’s the result of the protection from the ancestors, the so-called “Spirits”, but Violet has seen that before. Without a strong anchor or vessel, it can only exert demigod-like power at best, and it can’t even move far from the [Hall of All Spirits].
To be blunt, how could something that isn’t even considered powerful in the realm of gods possibly deter disasters and other mythical beings that are close to god-level, making them not dare to invade?
This simply doesn’t make sense logically.
If we think deeper, we must ask ourselves, what exactly are the so-called [Ancestors’ Spirits] that the Human United Kingdom worships?
According to the mainstream view inside the kingdom, the ancestors’ spirits are the souls of countless past royal forebears who died, representing the inheritance and protection of the will of humanity.
This may sound reasonable at first, but when people die, their souls are gone. How could there be any such thing as a heroic spirit? As a reincarnation of the [Spirit Fox Shrine Maiden], Violet understands more than anyone about the true nature of the “Underworld”.
Also, [spirits] are the embodiment of laws, immature gods. How could a group of so-called [ancestral heroic spirits], possibly nonexistent, form a real spirit?
Only the legendary Primordial Light can create spirits of laws. Besides that, the only known way to form a similar existence to [spirits] is… what?
Just earlier, the Human United Kingdom’s first king, now known as Timos Young the immortal magician, revealed the answer to that question.
The image of a queen with sky-blue hair appeared in her mind. The black-haired girl sighed and shook her head.
“I never expected… the true power that has protected the Human United Kingdom for hundreds of years, making those humans constantly proclaim that the kingdom doesn’t need gods, actually comes from an evil god outside of the world. If this news spreads, the entire Human United Kingdom will probably be shaken to its core.”
Timos Young helplessly added.
"It’s a neutral god, and this is the only option... The God of Paradox has no inherent tendency toward good or evil. It will kill or do harm without hesitation to achieve its goals, but it will also grant protection to living beings because of a contract. That’s why I chose it as a partner. Even though it still inevitably brings about evil karma, I alone will bear the consequences."
"This neutral god has caused quite a stir, hasn’t it? Carrying evil karma isn’t something you can just say on the surface. Hmph, but then again, I’m not a champion of justice, so..." Violet shook her head indifferently, a mischievous smile forming on her lips.
"Earlier, you didn’t fully confess all of this to that Exmont, right? If he found out about these small schemes, aren’t you worried about revenge? He should have some means of remotely watching you, right?"
Upon hearing this, the magician smiled slightly, raising his hand to point at the grand black sky overhead, which had just cleared, symbolizing the shadow of the [Wheel of Fate]. He looked like a wise strategist who had thought of everything.
"At least right now, it can neither see nor hear. Gods are not omnipotent, are they?"
"Mm... huh?"
It seemed that Violet had realized something hidden behind his actions. For the first time, a look of surprise appeared on her face.
"So, you knew from the start that the [Wheel of Fate] would arrive in this incident? Is the power of [Revelation] still inside you? What exactly is that thing?"
Shaking his head, Timos Young responded with a question instead of an answer.
"Until now, I still don’t understand where [Revelation] came from. But it’s a miracle, not something personal to me. It should be left for the more vibrant, the children who need it more."
"As for the part about the [Wheel of Fate] arriving, the answer is... I didn’t foresee this happening. But Lady Violet, you should remember that I borrowed causality from the future to change destiny and protect the Human United Kingdom, right?"
"With borrowing, there must be repayment. Let me ask you in return... why do you think I suddenly changed my planned course of action and decided to kill Carinvega Frederick?"
"And what changes in [Fate] did my actions bring about?"
