[Vol. 7] Chapter 302: What the Tower of Mystery Reflects
Although repairing the Seven Towers was a task that Lucine more or less forced onto the priestess, Violet understood that it was also meant as a friendly gesture.
Being allowed to come this close and personally feel the power of all Seven Towers was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Something many people could only dream of, even after a lifetime of effort. While the towers’ powers didn’t pose much danger to Violet, that didn’t mean the experience was meaningless.
Especially this one, the Tower of Mystery.
The concept of [Mystery] was originally proposed by mortals, but in theory, it’s one of the powers that comes closest to [Fate]. Just like how astrologers like Priscilla can read the stars to predict luck or disaster, the Tower of Mystery also holds some kind of power to foresee the future. However, the way it shows that power is quite unique.
It is unpredictable and uncertain. The most magical trait of [Mystery] is the unknown itself. It's said that whenever someone powerful gets close to the core of the Tower of Mystery for the first time, they always see some kind of strange vision. But the content is often completely illogical and changes from person to person.
Some people see shadows of the past. Others see what might be warnings of the future. And some witness things that seem like events from parallel worlds, stories that look similar to our world but are completely unrelated, like something out of a dream.
There are stories of people who avoided death or escaped chaos thanks to what they saw. But there are also those who were deeply affected by what they witnessed, worrying too much about the meaning of it all, falling into despair, and never recovering. That’s the nature of Mystery. No one can say ahead of time whether the vision will be a blessing or a curse.
Because of this, the “Tower of Mystery” is the only one among the Seven Towers that is considered dangerous to observe directly.
Lucine had warned Violet about all of this ahead of time. But Violet wasn’t the type to be frightened by vague and uncertain things. Instead, it made her even more curious. That’s why she accepted the task and came here.
And just as expected, when Violet began channeling magic into the non-physical core of the tower. bringing it slowly back to life from its dormant state, the power of “Mystery” responded to her.
The moment she closed her eyes, the darkness suddenly shifted.
Blurry. Everything she saw was unclear and fuzzy.
Compared to the records left by people who had seen similar visions before, what she saw now was even harder to understand. She could barely make out the outlines. It looked like she was inside a very large hall. And in that hall were two blurry figures, so fuzzy they looked like walking mosaics, having some sort of conversation.
Even their voices were affected by some kind of force. They sounded broken and incomplete, coming through in short, scattered pieces. Violet could only catch a few fragments of their speech.
!?
Just as she was starting to feel confused, she suddenly noticed a small detail and focused all her attention on it. She listened carefully, trying to catch every word she could.
The reason? The two figures were speaking a language known as [Ancient Niel language], also called the “Divine language”!
That meant these two were very likely actual gods, or at least beings closely related to the divine!
Maybe that’s why, even with the Tower of Mystery’s power, what could be seen or heard was still very limited. Even with all of Violet’s focus, she couldn’t hear what didn’t exist. In the end, she was only able to catch a few scattered words from their conversation.
[...future...the Origin Realm...repeating again...]
[So what... does it matter...]
[...can’t escape...even delaying won’t...]
[...explain...it’s impossible...]
[...know...those two are the same...hidden...]
[...don’t understand the reason...]
[...just like Constantius...]
Just like that, the two beings spoke back and forth, as if they were having some kind of important face-to-face talk. But because Violet was hearing them through the thick, blurry "glass" of [Mystery], she could only make out less than one-tenth of what they were saying. It was almost impossible to understand the full meaning.
As the girl was starting to feel frustrated, the two figures suddenly paused, as if they had noticed something. Then, they both went quiet. Their vague, "mosaic-like" bodies turned slightly. Violet still couldn’t see them clearly, but through a deeper connection of fate, she immediately understood what that movement meant...
They, whoever or whatever they were, from the past or future, had sensed that someone was secretly watching them!
There was no doubt now, these two were real gods!
And sure enough, in the very next moment, the vision created by the power of [Mystery] shattered like a glass mirror struck by a hammer. Just before it disappeared, a flash of familiar silver light crossed Violet’s vision. She opened her eyes wide, her awareness had returned to the pure white room inside the Tower of Origin.
“......”
Violet looked down in surprise and saw that her hand was still resting on the top of the metal pillar that represented the Tower of Mystery.
Even though the vision had clearly been forcefully broken by some external power, the core of the tower didn’t seem damaged at all. It was still calmly and steadily absorbing the large amount of magic she was providing. Everything felt so peaceful, it almost seemed unreal.
“Violet?”
A voice called from not far away. It was a concerned question from the Academy headmaster. Although she couldn’t leave her spot because she was also helping repair the Seven Towers, her sharp eyes hadn’t missed the sudden change in Violet’s expression. This girl was none other than the most powerful princess of the vampire race, Lucine.
Violet turned her head, and as soon as their eyes met, the experienced Lucine understood immediately.
“I see… So you saw a vision from the Tower of Mystery too. You didn’t react at first, so I thought maybe gods were immune to this kind of thing.”
“Vision…” Violet repeated the word thoughtfully and shook her head, answering with a question instead.
“Was I out of it for a long time just now?”
“No, it was just for a moment... Violet, whatever you saw, don’t take it too seriously. What [Mystery] shows has no clear purpose. It might be connected to you in some way, but no one knows exactly how. Some parts might not even be real, do you get what I mean?”
“Yeah.”
The black-haired girl quietly kept feeding magic into the now peaceful core of the Tower of Mystery. After thinking silently for a few seconds, she suddenly asked a question that seemed completely unrelated.
“By the way, Lucine… Your family name is Constantius, right? That comes from the original founder of the vampire race, doesn’t it? I mean... Restarting these towers isn’t as difficult as I expected. With the power you’ve shown, I think you could do it yourself… Is there some reason you’re keeping it a secret?”
“...Constantius?”
