Chapter 203: A Truly Bold Man… Dares to Give His Love Rival a Kidney Boost?
What does a good, healthy relationship look like?
Lin Yibai was a bit confused. Was she falling for someone… too fast?
It was hard to believe that in just about half a year, she had changed this much. Isn’t that kind of scary?
But stubborn as always, she still refused to admit it out loud. She muttered to herself in a low voice, ‘But I can say for sure, I wasn’t won over by that annoying love rival. This is just me falling apart on my own... yeah, it’s my own weak will. It’s not because he’s good at chasing me. Hmph!’
Such denial! So stubborn! Her little mouth was as tough as iron!
Xia Changyu’s car stopped outside the wedding planning company, but he didn’t drive away right away.
Lin Yibai looked confused and asked, “Why are you still here? Do you need something?”
Xia Changyu seemed to hesitate for a long time. He kept giving her little hints.
Lin Yibai slowly realized what he wanted.
Was he hoping for some kind of sweet moment? Maybe something like “Drive safe”, or “Good luck with your day!” or even…
A sudden feeling bubbled up in her chest. She wondered, should she use her “iron mouth” to say something sweet for once and see him off?
But in the end, she held back. After all, they hadn’t officially started dating yet.
Still, there were other ways to express herself.
Lin Yibai gently touched her lips with two fingers, pressed them lightly, and then blew the kiss toward him.
A flying kiss. (づ ¯3¯)づ ੭❤~
Her cheeks turned red. She stammered, “Th-that’s all I can do right now! I mean, I’m not your girlfriend yet, so don’t expect too much!”
Xia Changyu: “Sigh…”
Hearing that sigh, Lin Yibai couldn’t help putting her hands on her hips and said, “Hmph! What are you sighing for? You didn’t like my flying kiss? You don’t have to take it if you don’t want it!”
Xia Changyu shrugged and looked like a sad little cat. He said, “So, when will you actually become my girlfriend?”
Lin Yibai: “Wait a bit more.”
Xia Changyu: “But how long do I have to wait?”
Lin Yibai: “I don’t know.”
And with that, the morning came to an end.
Lin Yibai didn’t feel confident enough to make any promises that she wasn’t sure she could keep.
After watching Xia Changyu drive away, she slowly walked into the wedding company where she worked part-time.
The two rude receptionists from before had already quit for some reason.
Brother Jin had been waiting for a while.
When he saw Lin Yibai arrive, he greeted her while organizing some things, then pulled her aside and asked, “If I remember right, when university starts in September, you’ll be a senior, right?”
Lin Yibai nodded, “Yeah. Actually, school starts in late August.”
Brother Jin asked, “So… what are your plans?”
Lin Yibai blinked, “Huh?”
Brother Jin wasn’t the type to beat around the bush. He got straight to the point. “I mean work. Do you have any plans or ideas about your future job? What do you think about the wedding industry? Interested in working in this field?”
Lin Yibai squinted and said, “Ohhh?”
Brother Jin smiled and said, “Let me get straight to the point! You’ve been working part-time at our wedding company for a long time now, and I’m really happy with your work. You already know the business well, so I can recommend you as an internal hire. When your internship starts in senior year, you can become a full-time staff member with us right away.”
Well, it couldn’t be helped. She was just too good.
She looked very pretty, had a sweet voice, and was very charming. She also knew every part of the wedding planning business like the back of her hand.
But most importantly, she didn’t have the usual “bad habits” some girls had. At least in Brother Jin’s eyes. To him, Lin Yibai was a truly excellent worker.
Lin Yibai shrugged and replied, “I don’t really have any plans right now, but there’s no need to rush, right?”
After all, most college students don’t really know what they want to do in the future. Only a few rare ones stay true to their dreams from start to finish.
Many people just go to the campus job fair near graduation and pick some job that seems okay. Not great, not terrible, just to get started.
And Lin Yibai wasn’t some kind of perfect person either. Still in university and not sure what she wants to do, that’s totally normal, right?
Hearing this, Brother Jin looked a little relieved. He then gave her some advice. “I know how capable you are. If you’re interested, we can sign a ‘job interest agreement’ first. That way, we can start training you. I’d like you to lead a team and go to events.”
But Lin Yibai, still polite and graceful, said, “I think I’ll just keep working part-time for now.”
“Sigh~”
Honestly, his offer was very tempting. If Lin Yibai said yes, she could become a junior manager after graduation, leading her own wedding planning team.
But, she didn’t think it was necessary.
Senior year, internship, graduation…
For some reason, those things felt both very far away and very close at the same time. So for now, she decided not to think too much about it.
That day, Lin Yibai kept working hard. After her shift, she went to the fresh food market.
She wanted to make a homemade lunchbox as a return gift for Xia Changyu. But sadly, by the time she got off work, all the fresh pork was already sold out.
After a while of thinking, she made up her mind and said, “Okay, I’ll make some braised dishes instead!”
This was one of the easiest meals to make.
She bought some chicken legs, chicken feet, eggs, and tofu skin. No need to mix her own spices, she just grabbed a pre-made braising pack.
She was happily shopping in the store when suddenly…
At the very back of a cold fridge, she saw something long and oddly shaped.
Lin Yibai swore she really didn’t mean to look. She just accidentally pulled the bag out to check, and then shouted. “Whoa! A bull p***s!”
(Note: One of the cooking ingredients that makes you “strong” in some countries in Asia.)
What a great find! What a great find!! Most guys would probably have some thoughts if they saw this, right?
Of course, Lin Yibai wasn’t an exception. Why was a young woman like her paying attention to something like that?
Well… she had experienced some “weakness” before, so it made sense she’d care about these kinds of supplements.
So, Lin Yibai changed her cooking plans.
That bull… thing was probably set aside by a store worker for themselves, but since no one was around, she just put it into her cart.
As for the unlucky guy who might’ve wanted it… oh well!
At worst, there’d be one more disappointed middle-aged man that night.
Still, she had one small question in her heart.
After paying, she carried the bag and mumbled quietly to herself, “If I give him this as a thank-you meal… is that really okay?”
Maybe she could cut it into tiny pieces so it wouldn’t be obvious, add some red dates and goji berries, and stew it gently?
Lin Yibai said the main point was to boost her own health. She was truly a brave woman now, daring to cook kidney-tonic food for her love rival.
So… it should be fine, right?
