Chapter 149: The Last Time Going Home

The nutritious breakfast porridge was soon served on the dining table. Lin Muqing, now wearing her shorts, was already sitting obediently at the table waiting. Seeing her like this, Ye Ziming suddenly felt a little disappointed. He had hoped to enjoy some "benefits" this morning. But this wasn’t too bad either, her pajama shorts were very short, making her slender white legs look especially nice.

As he ate breakfast, Ye Ziming thought to himself.

“Boss.”

Halfway through eating, Lin Muqing looked up at Ye Ziming and softly called out to him.

“Hm?”

He looked at her with a hint of confusion, sensing from her expression that she had something she wanted to say.

“I want to gossip about something.”

She paused for a moment, then smiled cheekily and spoke again.

“Go ahead,” he said, lowering his head and continuing to eat while keeping his ears open to listen.

“Do you like any girl? Or have a crush on someone?”

After asking, Lin Muqing put down her spoon. Her big pretty eyes stared straight at her buddy, full of hope.

She had just proven that her buddy didn’t seem to feel anything romantic toward her. At least not like in the movies, where things could lead to something physical. Now, she was curious, there were so many pretty girls around him, was there anyone he had his eye on?

Honestly, she didn’t even know why she was so curious. She just really wanted to know, maybe even a little too much. Her feelings were all over the place, complicated, hard to explain. It felt a bit like the fear of losing something or someone.

After hearing her question, Ye Ziming also put down his spoon and looked at her with some surprise.

“What’s up?” He asked, puzzled.

When he looked at her, his eyes shifted subtly. He had a lot of thoughts, but none that he could say out loud. If he had to choose someone he liked, he figured it would be this cute girl right in front of him. No one else even came close.

“It’s nothing, I’m just curious,” she said nervously, shaking her head but still staring at him hopefully.

Lin Muqing knew this question probably wasn’t the best to ask, but she really cared, so she stubbornly held her chin up. The two of them suddenly fell into a strange silence, as if each had their own thoughts.

“I do.”

After thinking for a moment, Ye Ziming nodded and admitted it.

He felt there was no reason to lie about this to Lin Muqing. He didn’t want to hide anything from her.

But he was still a little unsure, Lin Muqing hadn’t fully accepted her identity yet. She still thought of herself as a guy. That was a bit of a headache. He had to figure out a way to help her accept the truth.

“Huh? Who is it?”

Seeing her bro nod, Lin Muqing was stunned at first, then suddenly got excited, leaning forward and placing her hands on the table. Even she didn’t know why she got so worked up, it just happened naturally.

“I’ll tell you once you realize that you’re a girl.”

Ye Ziming calmly picked up his spoon again and continued sipping his porridge, acting like her reaction didn’t affect him at all. In truth, he was secretly delighted inside, because he noticed how much Lin Muqing seemed to care.

Not bad. That was progress. At least she wasn’t completely clueless, she even knew to worry about possible rivals in love.

“Ughhh~”

Lin Muqing puffed up her cheeks in frustration. Her buddy was clearly teasing her, and she wasn’t happy about it at all.

“I already do realize I’m a girl now. Can you tell me who it is?”

After a while, Lin Muqing tilted her little head, thought for a bit, and asked again.

“You don’t.”

“How do you know I don’t?”

“I just know you don’t.”

“Then what will it take for you to believe that I do?”

“Wear skirts for two months, then I’ll think about it.”

With a sly grin, Ye Ziming casually dropped a bomb, making Lin Muqing wear skirts. Right after he said that, you could see the fire in Lin Muqing’s eyes vanish instantly. In two words, instantly defeated.

“Ahem, let’s just eat breakfast~”

Turning her eyes away, Lin Muqing picked up her spoon again and lowered her head to drink her healthy porridge.

She wasn’t dumb. Her good buddy only said he’ll think about it, meaning even if she did it, he still might not tell her.

Hmph :(

Trying to trick her? Dream on.

But honestly, if Ye Ziming hadn’t added that last part, she might’ve actually agreed to it... Maybe.

In this peaceful atmosphere, the two finished their breakfast together.

After that, Lin Muqing insisted on clearing the table and washing the dishes. It was something she insisted on doing so strongly that Ye Ziming didn’t even get the chance to help.

Like she was trying to take revenge or something, she pushed him straight out of the kitchen and stayed inside to deal with it alone.

Even though she was acting grumpy, Lin Muqing didn’t forget today’s plan, to go back to her house and bring over anything worth keeping.

“Leaving too much behind will just become a burden. There’s no need to keep it all…”

When they arrived at her house, Ye Ziming looked over the things she wanted to keep and gently tried to talk her down a bit. There was just too much stuff, and it simply wasn’t realistic to bring it all with her.

He could tell from her eyes that she was reluctant, not just to leave the things, but to leave the whole house.

“These few are enough to take with you.”

Ye Ziming gently patted Lin Muqing’s head and pointed at a few things on the ground and table. He spoke softly, trying to comfort her. He hoped she wouldn’t feel so sad. He knew she was attached to this place. After all, it was where she grew up.

But still, people move on, and tea cools once it’s been served. Holding on too tightly to the past only makes it harder to embrace the future.

“…Okay.”

Lowering her head, Lin Muqing gently nodded as she carefully held a photo frame in her hands. She couldn’t help but recall the memories of living here.

If nothing unexpected happens, this will likely be her last time coming back to this house.

Because of a redevelopment project, the local community office had already issued a notice that homeowners in this area should start preparing to move. Which meant, in a little while, this home would be torn down.

She stood there thinking for quite a while, and then slowly a peaceful smile appeared on her face. She lifted her head and looked at the meaningful items on the table.

Her good buddy was right. Instead of getting stuck in the past, it was better to think about how she wanted to live her future.

And besides, after leaving this place, it wasn’t like she’d be left with nothing. At the very least, she still had her good bro by her side.

“Come on, let’s go check your room and see if there’s anything else you want to bring.”

Seeing Lin Muqing lift her head again with a light in her eyes, Ye Ziming gently patted her head once more, smiled softly.
