Chapter 153: Rejected Again and Again
When her good friend stood up, Lin Muqing followed him and got ready to head toward the back door.
Even though it was rare for her buddy to ask her for help, she really didn’t want to deal with that girl. She thought it might get awkward later. So her plan was just to give some advice and let him handle it if anything happened.
“She’s coming, boss.”
Since their seats weren’t far from the back door, Lin Muqing kept an eye on the girl standing at the door. When she saw the girl walking over, she quietly poked her friend’s arm and gave him a thoughtful little reminder.
At the same time, she secretly glanced at his face. Seeing that his expression looked fine, she stepped aside a bit to give him some space, to “cast a spell” and deal with this quickly. That way, she could go home soon and eat dinner.
But what she didn’t expect was that once Fei Xun walked up to them, she stopped Lin Muqing instead.
“Lin Muqing, if it’s not too much trouble, would you like to go watch a movie with me this weekend?”
As she spoke, Fei Xun held out a small gift box and briefly introduced herself. Her name was Fei Xun, female, liked boys, and so on.
Lin Muqing didn’t catch all the details, she was too surprised. She thought, This girl must have gotten something wrong.
“Uh… he’s the school hunk,” she said, a bit awkwardly, pointing to her friend beside her instead of taking the gift.
“Mhm, I know,” Fei Xun nodded.
There was a brief flash of surprise in her eyes, but she quickly covered it with a sweet smile.
Before enrolling in this school, Fei Xun had already looked into Ye Ziming and knew about Lin Muqing. Clearly, the two were inseparable best friends. That’s when she came up with a plan, get close to Ye Ziming by getting close to Lin Muqing, and win in life.
Her “research” also showed that Lin Muqing was a total straight guy in personality, so this little scene began.
With her looks and her… well, “assets” that could outshine other girls her age, she was very confident that she could win Lin Muqing over. While she was talking, she even "accidentally" shook and squeezed a little, trying to get him to notice.
“Ah… I’m busy this weekend,” Lin Muqing replied, frowning and still not taking the gift.
Wait a minute, didn’t this girl say she was after her buddy? So why was she inviting her to a movie now?

“You’re not free during the whole week-long break?”
After being turned down, Fei Xun lowered her head in disappointment and pulled her hands back. Then she looked up at Lin Muqing with big, hopeful eyes, like she was really sad.
With her small and cute appearance and soft, delicate vibe, most boys would probably want to protect her. You could tell by how the nearby boys looked. They probably wanted to push Lin Muqing aside and take her place.
“Yeah,” Lin Muqing replied.
But she didn’t feel any of that protective urge. In fact, she found the girl kind of fake and didn’t want to get close to her.
“Then… can I at least buy you a milk tea after school today?”
“I’ve got a part-time job. No time.”
“Part-time...?”
“Yeah, working part-time.”
“I see…”
Fei Xun kept trying to make plans and even said she wanted to visit Lin Muqing’s part-time job place.
Naturally, whenever it was about her job, Lin Muqing would firmly say no and refuse to talk more. Her thoughts, ‘Do you think I’d actually tell you I’m a cross-dressing guy!?’
“It’s getting late. You should go home and eat. Otherwise, your parents will start worrying.”
Once again, Lin Muqing turned down Fei Xun's invitation. She lightly patted her best bro’s arm, hinting that it was time to make their escape. This girl really doesn’t give up, she thought. Now I understand why my bro’s been so annoyed. Anime girls are way better than this.
“Ahem, my bro says he’s hungry. We’ll talk later, okay? Bye.”
Seeing Fei Xun open her mouth like she still wanted to say something, Lin Muqing quickly grabbed her buddy’s hand and walked off without even looking back, heading toward a different stairwell just to avoid her.
She even took a longer way home, just to get away from Fei Xun.
If Fei Xun hadn’t brought up her job, maybe they could’ve added each other on WeChat and had a casual chat. But sadly, she did bring it up, and acted super interested too.

As the two of them walked away, Fei Xun stood frozen on the spot, the smile on her face turning completely stiff.
A strong feeling of defeat hit her. After being the school’s top beauty for years, she had never run into something like this.
A guy actually resisted my charms? Seriously!?
“Don’t be sad, goddess. There’s plenty of fish in the sea, as they say—”
“Scram!”
Just as Fei Xun stood awkwardly in place, a guy suddenly jumped out, trying to impress her. But she didn’t even glance at him. Instead, she gave him a look full of disgust, said one word, and walked off toward another stairwell on her own.
The guy was frozen in place. Only after Fei Xun had completely left did he finally move again, his face showing nothing but satisfaction.
He turned to a group of boys who had been watching nearby and proudly said, “Guys, the goddess just scolded me!”
“Totally worth it. Damn.”
“If this happens again, make sure you bring me along.”
The boys gathered together, excitedly discussing how they might get yelled at by the goddess too.
Quite a few people had been watching the whole thing. What surprised them most was Fei Xun’s weird move. She said she was going to chase after Ye Ziming, but ended up asking out Lin Muqing instead.
As for Lin Muqing’s rejection? Everyone was already used to it. Honestly, if she hadn’t turned her down, that would’ve been news.
One homeroom teacher even said that Lin Muqing was the student he trusted the most, in every sense of the word.
After they left the school, Lin Muqing finally relaxed and wiped away the sweat that wasn’t even on her forehead.
“She’s nuts… She really came after me.”
She glanced at her good buddy, who was smiling at her, and couldn’t help but complain again.
“There’s this super hot guy right here, and she ignores him just to mess with me? Seriously?”
Ugh. Just thinking about it gave her chills. Real-life girls are so much trouble… 2D waifus are still the best.
Ye Ziming didn’t say a word. He just quietly listened as Lin Muqing vented.
Even though he’d been acting like he wasn’t paying attention the whole time, he hadn’t missed anything. While Fei Xun was talking to Muqing, he noticed she kept sneaking glances at him. That look? He knew it all too well, he’d seen it plenty of times before.
And since Muqing had handled everything so smoothly on her own, he hadn’t needed to step in at all. In fact, if he had said something, it might have made things worse. He would’ve ruined the moment when Fei Xun started feeling truly hopeless.
