Chapter 238: A Big Misunderstanding

“I didn’t do anything!”

Yu Fan raised both hands in surrender, but his waist and legs were still slightly shaking.

He had sat cross-legged on the floor the night before, and after a whole night, his legs were numb. He also leaned forward with his upper body on the edge of the bed, which made his lower back hurt badly.

When Li Mu’s parents noticed how his legs and waist were trembling, their faces turned darker and darker.

“Heh...”

Her father clenched his teeth as he glared at Yu Fan.

“No, really, I didn’t do anything! I just spent the night here sleeping. Uncle, you have to believe me!”

But her father grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the room.

“You might not care about your own reputation, but Li Mu still does!”

This was such a huge misunderstanding!

Yu Fan wanted to cry, but no tears came. He had no choice but to let himself be dragged out of the bedroom.

“What’s all the noise...”

Li Mu was woken up by all the shouting. She groggily lifted her head from the bed, her face full of tiredness. She had gone to sleep very late, and now she was being woken up too early.

When her father peeked into the room and saw her condition, his anger boiled even more.

The pig I’ve raised for over ten years! Even if she turned into a beautiful cabbage while I wasn’t looking, how could someone else’s pig come and eat it?

At least give me some time to accept this!

He glanced at Yu Fan’s innocent-looking face. The more he looked, the angrier he got. He pushed and shoved Yu Fan all the way into the living room.

“What’s going on?”

Li Mu was completely confused. She had no idea what was happening.

Her mother walked into the room, shut the door, and sat beside her on the bed with a worried expression.

“Mom?”

“Xiao Mu...” Her mother started to speak but didn’t know what to say. She sighed deeply. “Why does something like this have to happen on the first day of the New Year?”

Looking at her daughter’s sleepy, confused face, she figured Li Mu probably didn’t even realize what had happened last night. That little brat Yu Fan must’ve taken advantage of her!

But she also understood, Li Mu had only recently become a girl and didn’t yet have the same awareness or caution that most girls did.

“What exactly happened?”

Seeing how lost she looked made her mother’s heart ache even more.

“Do you really like Yu Fan?”

Li Mu paused, then nodded.

“Sigh... Tomorrow, your father and I will go talk to his family about an engagement.” She shook her head helplessly. “We need to see what kind of people they are. If they’re no good, then you really need to stop thinking about that boy.”

What’s done is done...

Li Mu looked even more confused, with question marks practically floating over her head.

Didn’t Yu Fan and her dad get along great last night?

Weren’t you both pretty happy with him too?

Why are you now calling him “that boy” with such a cold tone?

Also, isn’t it a bit early to talk about getting engaged?

I haven’t even met Yu Fan’s family yet!

Her mother held her hand tightly, sighing again and again.

Li Mu’s eyes were full of confusion. “Mom, what exactly happened?”

“You’re still young...”

“I’m almost nineteen!”

Her mother paused. Even though Li Mu was turning nineteen, in her eyes, she was still the little girl from when she was fourteen or fifteen.

That made her heart ache even more. Yu Fan must’ve done this more than once!

“Where is Yu Fan?” Li Mu looked toward the bedroom door in confusion.

“He’s gone home,” her father said as he opened the door and spoke to her.

He had pushed, dragged, and kicked Yu Fan out of the house just moments ago.

“So early? He didn’t even stay for breakfast?”

That one sentence made both parents’ faces turn completely dark.

Li Mu was now even more lost than before. What exactly happened?

Her father sighed and left the room, planning to reheat the leftovers from New Year’s Eve dinner for breakfast.

Her mother hesitated for a long time, not knowing whether she should ask Li Mu directly about what happened.

Just then, Xiao Jing ran in and shouted, “Sister! Did you and brother-in-law try to make a baby last night?!”

Their mother’s face got even darker.

If they didn’t take precautions… our daughter might become a mom next year. Wouldn’t her life be ruined if she has a baby while still in college?

“???” Li Mu had slept deeply the night before.

She had no idea that Yu Fan had even come into her room, let alone that he had spent the night sleeping by her bed.

“What happened to him last night?”

“He came to your room after getting drunk and slept there all night,” Xiao Jing said.

“Really?” Li Mu shook her head. “I didn’t even notice.”

Now she started to understand why her parents were acting so weird today, and why her whole family, including Yu Fan, was in her room when she first woke up.

Li Mu smiled awkwardly and said to her mother, “He didn’t do anything last night. Don’t worry so much.”

But her mother still didn’t believe her.

Xiao Jing, however, nodded and said, “I saw him sleeping on the floor by your bed, snoring.”

Then why did you ask if we were making a baby?!

Li Mu gave Xiao Jing a sharp look. This girl clearly just wanted to stir up trouble.

But their mother still didn’t believe it. She just let out another heavy sigh and turned to leave the room.

Why did something like this have to happen on the first day of the new year?

Li Mu had a headache. Xiao Jing bounced up to her with a curious face. “Sister, are you sure brother-in-law really didn’t do anything last night?”

Li Mu smacked Xiao Jing on the back of the head. That head flew in an arc, hit the wall, and rolled to the floor.

But the head still looked up at her with curiosity.

“Sister, how much do you think brother-in-law will give for the bride price? Will it be enough for us to buy another house?”

“Take your head and get out of here!”

Li Mu glared at her.

“Okay...” Xiao Jing picked up her head sadly, hugged it, and ran out. “Mom! Sister hit me! My head fell off!”

Sitting in front of her computer, Li Mu pulled out a small mirror and a comb to fix her appearance.

Her hair had gotten much longer. It now reached her neck, and her bangs had grown down to her nose. She had no choice but to comb them to the sides.

Luckily, she had lived in a girls’ dorm for a while and used her roommate’s conditioner. So her hair was still pretty smooth, not dry or full of split ends.

Only the tips of her hair tended to curl up, which made her look a bit messy.

“I need a haircut... Maybe curling it a little would make it look better...” She mumbled as she combed her hair.

But it was the New Year holiday, and no salons were open.

After tidying up a bit, she left the bedroom and went to the living room.

Xiao Jing was sitting obediently on a small stool, and their mom was helping her put on makeup. Her dad had already reheated the leftover food from last night.

“Come eat.”

Her dad called her over with a worried look on his face.

Li Mu wanted to explain, but after seeing how her mom reacted earlier, she knew no amount of explaining would help.

She walked to the dining table helplessly, sat down, and started eating in silence.

“Xiao Mu...” Her dad sat down next to her. He opened his mouth, then just sighed heavily. “Do you really like Yu Fan?”

“Dad, there’s really nothing going on between us,” Li Mu said helplessly. “He just slept on the floor all night. Xiao Jing saw it.”

Her dad sighed softly and nodded half-heartedly, clearly still full of worry.

This was impossible to clear up now. The more she tried to explain, the worse it sounded...

Li Mu couldn’t do anything about it, but when she thought about it more, maybe it wasn’t such a big deal.

At least her parents were now seriously thinking about getting her and Yu Fan engaged.

“You’ve only known Yu Fan for a few months...”

Her father looked at her like she was a child who had gone down the wrong path.
