[Vol. 8] Chapter 56: The Revealed Identity
At the level of a god, personal stats and gear are no longer the most important factors in a fight. A god's rank mainly shows the kind of concept they represent. It’s a relative measure of power, not an absolute one. Take [Wild], for example. Even though his rank is still far from that of a true main god, his unbelievably strong body alone lets him fight head-on against a level 100 Dragon God without falling behind.
Gods fight using their concepts, their divine laws, and even their divine realms. A battle between gods doesn’t end quickly. That’s why, unless there’s no other choice, they usually avoid fighting each other. This is also the main reason why, even though gods were as many and bright as stars in ancient times, no full-scale god wars ever happened.
Still… even though she had already learned some information from Sethlin ahead of time, facing the real thing was a totally different feeling.
Compared to the priestess, who seemed a little surprised, Miss Dragon God wasn’t shocked at all by the other side’s strength. While keeping her dragon eyes and divine sense firmly locked onto [Wild]’s presence, she calmly said,
“He’s tough, that’s for sure. Like a gross stone sitting in a toilet pit. His speed, strength, and endurance are also top-notch. If I met him back in the day, he might’ve been hard to deal with. But now, he’s not my match.”
Ah… there she goes. She said it out loud. Not holding back at all.
Violet silently broke a sweat, but she also knew that her dragon was simply telling the truth.
The “Primordial Flame” burns everything and reshapes the world. That kind of divine law is clearly one belonging to a Main God, or even something beyond. In some ways, it even connects to the true “Primordial Light.” A god like [Wild] might be able to resist it for a while, but if Xiao Guang really went all-out, the ending wouldn’t be much of a mystery.
Not to mention, the [God of Wilderness and Savagery] most likely hasn’t fully arrived in this world yet. Violet didn’t quite know how he even got here, but there's a big difference between mythical creatures and gods. The [Wild] present now clearly isn’t his real body.
While Violet and Xiao Guang were secretly communicating, the [Wild] across from them didn't continue its attack. Its two clones merged back into one and dropped directly into the massive pit. This pit had been blasted open by the priestess using one of her few high-tier Holy Light attack spells, specifically the [Light's Wrath Thunder Hammer], which was a tier higher than even [Roar of Holy Flame] or [Purification Rain].
Because [Wild] had stepped in and interrupted Violet’s follow-up attack, even after teaming up to resist, the massive Behemoth Vog and the insect warrior Carlos still got hit by her level-9 spell. They were blasted deep into the ground and now limped out together, supporting each other, covered in blood, and collapsed on their knees before the God of Wilderness.
“...Lord [Wild], Vog has lost the fight. Please punish us!”
“We were not strong enough...”
[......]
Surprisingly, even though he was usually extremely harsh toward his subordinates, [Wild] stayed silent for a moment. He didn’t punish the two defeated warriors. Instead, he just shook his head.
[No, this time the mistake was mine. I underestimated the strength of our enemies. I didn’t expect… them to appear here.]
[Wild]’s followers fall into two categories.
The first type are like Vog the Behemoth and Carlos the war-beast, beings who grew strong on their own, with [Wild] offering only support.
The second type are like Flora and Norris, beings who were not mythical creatures at all, but were raised to power directly through [Wild]’s divine gift.
Compared to the ones he truly values, someone like Flora, a divine messenger, was just a disposable tool to the God of Wilderness. That’s why he never cares about their personality, abilities, or loyalty. From the moment they receive his blessing, these messengers become his eyes in the outside world, or you could say, a kind of half-avatar.
The power he gives out means very little to a god. If he wants, [Wild] can take it back anytime, along with the person’s life, soul, and memories.
So, when he killed Flora, he didn’t hesitate at all. To put it bluntly, in [Wild]’s eyes, these so-called divine messengers are not even as important as Tairnak, the behemoth chieftain and commander of the allied forces.
As for Carlos and Vog, they are the only two followers that [Wild] brought with him when descending into the Origin Realm. Their power and loyalty are much higher than other messengers, so when facing a true powerful enemy, he chose to bring only these two he could trust.
Originally, [Wild] believed that the two women he saw in Flora’s memories were just like Carlos, followers of the Dragon God. His plan was to fight the Dragon God himself, while those two women would each fight against Carlos and Vog. But what happened next was completely different from what he expected.
Although [Wild] is cruel and has killed hundreds of thousands of living beings as sacrifices without guilt, he doesn't actually enjoy bullying the weak. To him, the lives of small, powerless creatures are like dust. He can erase them without a second thought. But if he meets a true opponent who earns his respect, he will take the battle seriously and give it his all.
Even though his original target was the Dragon God, the blonde dragon girl didn’t give him a chance to ignore her. She charged in and forced him into battle, dragging the god from the ground all the way up into the sky. After fighting several rounds, [Wild] was shocked to realize something, this girl wasn’t using any divine powers or laws at all, and yet she could fight a real god like him on equal terms with just her physical body.
This was something he had never seen in tens of thousands of years!
Excited by such a rare opponent, [Wild] forgot about the Dragon God entirely and threw away his original plan. He began fighting seriously, testing this girl step by step to find her limits.
And the more they fought, the more he became sure of his guess.
As one of the ancient gods who had existed since the beginning of the world, [Wild] had fought many other gods. In battles between gods, no matter what their rank is, the outcome is always decided by the unique laws or powers each god represents. These special powers are what make gods far stronger than anything mortal. Even without using their divine realms, their true trump cards, gods can still crush all lesser beings.
That’s why, when he first heard that Flam, the God of Blazing Heat and Explosions, had been defeated badly by a mortal dragon with no divine powers, he felt great contempt and disbelief. In theory, that kind of thing should be impossible. Even though the physical bodies of demigods and the weakest true gods might not be that different, the difference in real combat power should be like night and day.
But now, that belief had just been shattered.
Just like what happened to Flam, [Wild] finally understood why he was losing, and he realized who his enemy really was.
As for the girl’s companion, while her power also surprised him, compared to that unbelievable dragon, she at least seemed more “normal.”
