Chapter 253: Comparing You to My Boyfriend Is Really an Insult to Him
Still hadn’t found a job she liked. Lin Yibai planned to put more energy into signing up for the national civil exam.
The group for her major was pretty active lately. The counselor often posted job openings, and classmates would remind each other if they found good opportunities. But the information was mixed, some good, some not so good.
Lin Yibai sighed, just about to leave the group chat when suddenly, “Beep beep, beep beep beep!” A message popped up in the bottom right corner, with an avatar flashing.
Looking at the avatar and the username, Lin Yibai quickly found the person who sent the private message in the group. A quiet girl from her class she hadn’t talked much to before.
“Baiyi, are you there?”
“Zhou Ling, what’s up?” She had just been talking in the group and couldn’t pretend she didn’t see the message.
Zhou Ling quickly typed, “Great! I thought you wouldn’t reply to me!”
Lin Yibai: “Hmm~~”
Zhou Ling asked, “How have you been? Still haven’t found a job, right?”
Of course not, she just said that in the group chat.
Girls like Zhou Ling who are shy usually talk slowly and don’t get straight to the point. Lin Yibai guessed she had something to say but was hesitant.
Luckily, Lin Yibai had nothing else to do and wasn’t in a hurry.
After chatting for a while, Zhou Ling finally said, “Here’s the thing. We heard about a startup company. They say there are big opportunities, but we’re still unsure. We don’t know if the company is good or not. Since you haven’t found a job either, do you want to check it out with us tomorrow? It’s near Dongbai Building at Dong Street.”
A startup company?
From what Lin Yibai knew, most startups, unless backed by big money like her boyfriend Xia Changyu’s company, usually don’t grow very big.
So, she wasn’t very optimistic. She was about to say no.

“Baiyi, please come with us, pretty please! 🙏”
Really? Does everyone in the world know that Lin Yibai is soft-hearted? Who taught them that trick?
But Lin Yibai also guessed the real reason, they didn’t have much experience and couldn’t tell if the company was good or not, so they wanted to go together for courage.
After thinking for a moment, Lin Yibai agreed, “Okay.”
There was cheering from the girls’ dorm. Looks like quite a few people wanted to go.
Because of some twist in fate, they didn’t realize why, as girls, having Lin Yibai join made them feel braver. Wouldn’t it be better to take some guys with them?
Anyway, finding Baiyi was the answer.
The next day, around seven or eight o’clock, Lin Yibai was already awake. After washing up and buying some breakfast, when she arrived at school, she almost spat out her soy milk.
“Whoa.” She pointed at a group of girls around her and said, “Zhou Ling, I thought it was just you! Why are there so many people?”
Zhou Ling said, “They’re my roommates and two good friends, six of us total.”
Lin Yibai: “Hmm!”
Zhou Ling continued, “At the job fair a few days ago, we saw a company that said if you join now, you’ll be like one of the company’s founders. We thought it might be a good chance, but there’s not much information about them online.”
Lin Yibai asked, “Is it the kind where only the company name is listed, but the specific business isn't written at all? Then you looked more and found a few articles that made the industry sound very bright and promising?”
Zhou Ling’s eyes lit up, “Hey, how did you know?”
Lin Yibai smiled awkwardly and said, “N-nothing really, I just asked a question.”
But in her heart, she already had an idea. She even apologized for some things she said earlier, like comparing that company to her boyfriend’s small company, that was really insulting to him.
Anyway, the company Zhou Ling saw really stood out for one thing, being nonsensical!
No one knew what it actually did or what kind of business it had. It was just a company name hanging out there, and they were hiring people, trying to get lots of workers.
Zhou Ling urged, “Let’s go now. It’s already past 8 o’clock, and we need to get there before 9:30.”
Lin Yibai nodded, “Okay.”
Even though she thought the company might have some problems, Lin Yibai didn’t want to explain or argue here. Sometimes girls can be very stubborn.
When they all decide to look for a job together, they only realize if it’s a mistake after they hit a wall. If you try to warn them, they just think you don’t want to help and maybe you’re even trying to stop them. Then you’re the bad guy.
The group got on the bus. Dong Street was quite far from the school, and most of the time was wasted on transferring buses.
When they arrived at the Dongbai Building, Zhou Ling pulled Lin Yibai aside and whispered, “Baiyi, please help us check carefully later. If this works out, I’ll treat you to a big meal!”
Lin Yibai shrugged, “Sure!”
She looked at the building outside. It was an older building! But when they took the elevator up, they saw the office space was only half finished.
The front desk asked them to register.
Not long after, a middle-aged man appeared. Zhou Ling and the others called him “Teacher Liu” and he started to show them around the office.
Pointing to an unfinished area, he smiled and said, “Don’t call me Teacher Liu anymore. If you join the company, we’ll all be coworkers, so just call me Brother Liu. Do you like this area? We plan to put all six of your workstations here.”
Everyone happily shouted, “Great!”
Soon, “Teacher Liu” left because some other “students” had arrived outside. Not only students from their school but from other schools too.
This made Lin Yibai relax a little. So many people, and in a busy city area, it probably wasn’t a bad scam or kidnapping. If they could gather so many students, it must mean they had some ability.
Later, Lin Yibai also understood why they called him “Teacher Liu.” Around 10 a.m., a group of middle-aged and older people came in.
“Teacher Liu” treated them warmly and led them to a meeting room to give a speech. Lin Yibai didn’t know what he said exactly, but it seemed very passionate. Because of his speaking skills, Zhou Ling and the others called him “Teacher Liu.”
Zhou Ling looked at the busy office space, not noticing it was still half finished. She asked eagerly, hoping for support, “Baiyi, what do you think?”
Lin Yibai shook her head and cooled their excitement a bit, “If this is a company, then they have way too few employees.”
Zhou Ling explained, “Teacher Liu said the company is just starting, so it’s normal to have fewer people.”
Lin Yibai continued, “But I saw their employees’ computers. They were just using simple business app backends! Did you see that guy’s computer? He hasn’t done anything useful for half an hour. No work, no business contacts.”
Zhou Ling: “......”
Soon, someone came from the meeting room and interrupted Lin Yibai before she could say more.
That person’s request was simple, that everyone should cooperate with “Teacher Liu.”
That person repeatedly told them, “When Teacher Liu asks you questions, just say yes, yes, yes. If he asks if you have confidence, say yes, yes, yes. Our slogan is, Keep going, keep going, keep going! Confidence, confidence, confidence.”
