Chapter 203: The Not-So-Reliable Three Brothers
“Uh… what?”
Hearing what her best friend said and seeing what he did, Lin Muqing widened her eyes in surprise.
“Great! Let’s go register later.”
Meng Yue was the first to react. She took Lin Muqing’s household registration book from Ye Ziming’s hand and gave him a mental thumbs-up in her heart.
While they were discussing things earlier, Meng Yue had also heard from Li Muning that it was all thanks to Ye Ziming that they were able to find her daughter so quickly. Because of that, she didn’t object to him moving into the Lin family home to live with her precious daughter.
First, he had taken good care of her daughter. Then, he helped the Lin family find their long-lost child. And now, he was still helping them with more things. No matter how you looked at it, they owed this young man a lot. So, while getting the registration issue ready, Meng Yue also took out her phone and called her three sons, who had gone out early in the morning, and asked them to come home to help move things.
Since Ye Ziming was going to move into their home, the first thing they needed to do was clear a room. Then, they had to move his things over.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, the three brothers had just come out of the hospital and were sitting at a cafe, discussing the results of the DNA test.
“Hmph! Big Brother, you’re too sneaky!”
Lin Qiwen was the first to speak, pointing the finger at their eldest brother.
The reason? He and Lin Zixuan had just discovered that their big brother, Lin Yiming, had secretly asked someone to do a paternity test as well, and the results he got were different from theirs!
“Tch. You’re just as sneaky, so don’t laugh at others.”
Lin Yiming looked completely unimpressed. After all, he wasn’t the only one trying to do something behind the others’ backs.
Their second brother, Lin Zixuan, had planned to secretly get the test report and lie to the others, saying it would take three days to come out.
Their third brother, Lin Qiwen, had tried to bribe someone at the hospital to give his two brothers fake results.
All three of them had one goal, to be the first one to show the test report to Lin Muqing and get her to call them “brother.”
But as luck would have it, all three tried to act on their plans this morning, only to bump into each other… and fail together.
“Ahem. Let’s move on to the next thing, how are we going to explain this to Mom and Dad?”
Lin Zixuan coughed twice, trying to cover up the awkwardness while changing the topic nervously.
Even though Big Brother and Little Brother were sneaky, he wasn’t any better, so he didn’t have the right to criticize them.
“This is a big deal. We need to talk it over carefully…”
As the eldest, Lin Yiming tried to stay calm and followed his second brother’s lead.
After a short discussion, the three brothers made a simple agreement. From now on, none of them would play dirty tricks. They would each try to win Lin Muqing’s favor fairly.
But just as they started talking about how to explain everything to their parents, Meng Yue suddenly called.
So the three brothers immediately rushed home. On the way, Lin Qiwen glanced at the fake report he had made. Feeling annoyed, he scratched out all the personal information, crumpled the paper into a ball, and threw it into a trash bin on the street.
After they left, Fang Xiyue walked out of the cafe and over to the trash bin. She reached in and pulled out the ball of paper.
“No blood relation?”
She had just happened to pass by and only heard a few scattered words, one of which sounded like “Lin Muqing”.
Since the three brothers weren’t foolish enough to loudly talk about private family matters in public, she hadn’t managed to hear anything useful even though she tried to eavesdrop.
But now, her overactive imagination started to fill in the blanks…
When the three brothers rushed home, Meng Yue was holding Lin Muqing’s hand and giving her a tour around the Lin family villa. She gently said,
“From now on, this will be your home, okay?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Lin Muqing nodded sweetly and looked up at Meng Yue with a big smile. Her eyes were full of happiness.
In her heart, she couldn’t help but think, having a family feels really nice.
After finishing the tour of her “new” home, they returned to the living room and just happened to see the three brothers, who had arrived not long ago. At that moment, Ling Cong was standing in front of them, saying something to them.
“Big brothers…”
Seeing the three of them standing there and staring at her, Lin Muqing thought for a second and softly called out to them. After all, they were her brothers.
“Hey—!”
The moment they saw Lin Muqing, the three brothers were a little stunned. They already knew Meng Yue had accepted her as her daughter, and they were still surprised by it.
But once they heard Lin Muqing calling them “brothers,” the three of them snapped back to reality and hurried to respond to her all at once.
Right now, the three of them were way too excited. They even wanted to run over and give their little sister a big hug.
But they didn’t do it, for two reasons. First, Ling Cong quickly stepped forward and blocked them, worried they might scare his daughter.
Second, the three brothers were all watching each other, holding themselves back because none of them wanted the others to look better. The air was full of silent rivalry.
Lin Muqing: They seem kinda silly. Can I apply for a return or exchange? (Disappointed face)
“Tsk, have some dignity! Look at how foolish you three are.”
Pretending to be mad, Meng Yue laughed as she scolded them. Then she quickly gave orders, telling the three brothers to go upstairs and clear out a room for Lin Muqing.
“No problem!”
“Leave it to us!”
“Consider it done!”
When they heard their little sister was going to move in, the three brothers were overjoyed and instantly full of energy. Without wasting a second, they got to work.
“If anyone ever bullies you in the future, just come to your brothers. If that doesn’t work, come find me. I’ll help you deal with them.”
Watching her sons run off, Meng Yue smiled and gave Lin Muqing a gentle reminder while still holding her hand.
Even though she had said something similar before, the meaning now was different, so she wanted to say it again.
“Mm-hmm.”
Lin Muqing nodded in response to show she understood.
But in her heart, she was thinking, ‘Even if something happens, I probably won’t go to them… They don’t seem very reliable.’ Compared to them, her good buddy Ye Ziming was much more dependable.
“How about this, you go back first and pack your things. In a bit, I’ll ask your brothers to come help move them.”
As they arrived near the sofa in the living room, Meng Yue glanced at her excellent son-in-law sitting there and smiled while speaking to her daughter.
“Okay.”
Lin Muqing nodded and looked over at her best friend, using eye contact to quietly pass him a message.
Ye Ziming got up from the sofa, smiled, and gently took her hand. Then he led her toward his home.
On the way back to the Ye family villa, Lin Muqing looked down and thought quietly for a while. Then she turned her head to look at her good buddy.
“…Big Bro.”
Lin Muqing called out a little hesitantly.
“Hm?”
Ye Ziming turned to look at her slowly, eyes full of curiosity.
“Well… I might not be able to go shopping with you today.”
Lin Muqing sounded a little guilty. She had promised to go out with him on his birthday, but now that she had just found her family, there were probably a lot of things she still needed to take care of.
