Chapter 205: The Jealous Brothers
“Hey hey hey, don’t be like that! You don’t have to call us ‘brother’, we’ll still help carry your things!”
Seeing the look of dislike on Lin Muqing’s face, the three brothers quickly changed their tune and tried to enter the room to help their little sister move her stuff.
They weren’t there because the room was already ready. It was actually because Meng Yue checked the time and realized it was already noon. She didn’t want her precious daughter to go hungry, so she told her sons to go help carry Lin Muqing’s things first. The room could be cleaned and set up later, after lunch.
And so, the scene that followed was… the three brothers fighting to help their little sister carry stuff, while Lin Muqing was trying to help Ye Ziming carry his things. The air was filled with the sour scent of lemons (aka jealousy).
“Lin Muqing, carrying things is a man’s job. Just leave it to us.”
Feeling a bit jealous, Lin Qiwen smiled as he spoke, hoping to stop Lin Muqing from helping Ye Ziming.
“Yeah, let us do it,” his two older brothers added, following along.
They all said they didn’t want their precious sister to get tired.
But what they didn’t expect was. After hearing this, Lin Muqing paused for two seconds, then grabbed a small bag from Ye Ziming’s hands and walked straight out of the room.
If this is a man’s job, then as a “strong man,” she definitely had to help too.
“Lin Muqing! Wait up!”
The three brothers quickly chased after her, trying to take the bag from her hands.
But Lin Muqing refused to let them, and she didn’t give them a chance either. She was determined to help carry the stuff.
Now, the person who knows Lin Muqing best would say, if you just say something sweet to her, and then hold the bag up high so she can’t reach it, you could probably solve this peacefully.
Unfortunately, the three brothers had only been "official brothers" for two days and hadn’t figured that out yet. And being the silly guys they are, it might take a long time for them to really understand their little sister.
Not long after, Lin Muqing arrived at the Lin family home carrying a small bag, followed closely by Ye Ziming and the three brothers.
“Mom, are you cooking?”
As soon as she walked in, Lin Muqing smelled something delicious. She dropped her bag on the sofa and happily walked to the kitchen.
Inside the kitchen, Meng Yue and Li Muning were standing side by side, both wearing aprons, cooking for both families.
Since their two families were already close, visiting each other and eating together was nothing new. So it wasn’t surprising they had extra aprons.
“Yes! Today I’m making your favorite, chicken wings!”
Hearing her daughter’s voice, Meng Yue quickly turned around with a smile and answered her.
“Yay~!”
Lin Muqing cheered like a happy little traveler.
Back in the living room, Lin Cong and Ye Mingxu were having a casual chat, while the three Lin brothers were staring at Ye Ziming with unfriendly faces.
They didn’t know what kind of history he had with Lin Muqing. They only knew this guy had a very good relationship with their sister.
They didn’t really think that Ye Ziming was the reason their sister didn’t feel close to them…
But still, they were jealous!
“What’s wrong?”
Being stared at like that, Ye Ziming felt a bit awkward. He gave a polite smile and asked.
“You and my sister seem pretty close. Maybe even closer than we are, and we’re her real brothers.”
After staring for a bit more, Lin Qiwen was the first to speak, his tone clearly jealous.
“Yeah.”
Lin Zixuan and Lin Yiming both nodded too. Even though they were smiling, their voices weren’t exactly friendly.
Looking at these three, Ye Ziming felt a cold sweat. He didn’t even know what to say.
He wanted to say, ‘I’ve been her ‘bro’ for a year… her boyfriend for a month… and how many days have you been her brothers again?’
But of course, he didn’t say that.
At that moment, Lin Muqing came out of the kitchen and sat next to him on the sofa.
“Big bro, what were you guys talking about?”
She had noticed them chatting and was curious.
“Nothing much,” Ye Ziming replied casually. “Your brothers were just asking me about you… They care a lot.”
Without even blushing or getting nervous, Ye Ziming smoothly told a little lie. After all, these three were Lin Muqing’s brothers, and he felt there was no need to make things awkward between them.
His words worked very well. Although the three brothers were kind of silly, they could tell that Ye Ziming was trying to help them out.
“Oh? What did they ask?”
Lin Muqing glanced at her brothers, then at her good friend.
Even though she sometimes disliked their behavior, deep down she knew they cared about her, so she was genuinely curious.
“We just asked how you're doing at school, and if you need us to bring you anything,” Lin Zixuan replied with a smile, following Ye Ziming’s lead.
He even thought about using a “visit to see old teachers” as an excuse to drop by her school, since he had also studied at the Chengnan City Middle School before.
Unfortunately, he stepped on a landmine.
“No need! I'm doing great over there, and you absolutely must not come!”
Lin Muqing replied very quickly, cutting him off the moment he finished his sentence.
After all, at school, she was pretending to be a boy. If the three brothers showed up and shouted, “Sister! Why are you dressed like a boy at school?”
That would be a total disaster!
In her heart, Lin Muqing was already screaming.
Next to her, Ye Ziming really wanted to cover his face. He couldn’t bear to watch how badly this was going.
Of all the things they could’ve talked about, why did it have to be school? Even talking about her living situation in Chengnan City would've been safer!
“I think your second brother just—”
“No!”
“Sis, we just—”
“If you go to Chengnan City, then I won’t consider you my brothers anymore!”
At the most critical moment, Lin Muqing threw out her ultimate threat.
Honestly, when she said that, she wasn’t sure if it would work, because she didn’t quite understand the kind of “sister obsession” mindset they had.
But to her surprise, the three brothers immediately gave in. They all promised they wouldn’t go to her school and begged her not to stop being their little sister.
“Wait, what…”
Lin Muqing was stunned. She hadn’t expected that line to work that well.
She felt a bit relieved too. Thankfully, she managed to stop them from going to her school. Who knows what kind of mess it would’ve caused if they did?
As for her mom, as long as no one visited the school, she could handle the situation pretty well.
After all, outside of school, she didn’t wear that special jade pendant, so there shouldn’t be any problems.
“Come eat!”
After a bit more chatting on the couch, Meng Yue came out of the kitchen holding two dishes and called everyone over.
Then the two families once again sat down together and enjoyed a big, delicious lunch.
But before the meal started, there was a little incident. The three brothers all fought to sit next to Lin Muqing so they could eat beside her.
In the end, though, it was Lin Cong and Meng Yue who sat on either side of her, while Ye Ziming got the seat directly across from her.
The three brothers? Totally left out.
