Chapter 206: Stop Fighting Each Other, Focus on Outsiders
After lunch, the three brothers went upstairs to clean out a room. Ye Mingxu and Lin Cong went to the study room, while Meng Yue and Li Muning stayed in the kitchen to clean up and also spend some time with Lin Muqing.
Ye Zizhuo and Ye Mengze were basically idle, and Ye Ziming was only half-idle, because his attention was always on Lin Muqing.
The two heads of the families went into the study to briefly discuss plans for a welcome-back party for Lin Muqing in the coming days.
“They’ll officially announce their daughter has come home. We’ll officially announce their daughter is our future daughter-in-law.”
That was exactly what Li Muning said. Her idea was, since the Lin family would be inviting relatives and friends, as well as some people from their social circle, to the party, there would definitely be young people attending too. That’s why she thought it was important to make the relationship official.
After all, their future daughter-in-law was sweet and sensible, and got along so well with her son. She didn’t want anyone else to swoop in and steal her lovely daughter-in-law.
She even planned to pick out matching outfits for her son and daughter-in-law to wear to the party, so everyone could see at a glance that they were a couple.
After sharing her thoughts, she left the rest, like the business partnerships, to Ye Mingxu. She didn’t care about that.
All she cared about was her son and future daughter-in-law.
“Big Bro!”
Lin Muqing came out of the kitchen and called out to her good buddy with a big smile.
She was in such a good mood right now, everything seemed wonderful, and her good buddy looked extra handsome to her today.
“Hmm?”
Hearing her voice, Ye Ziming turned his head and smiled gently at her.
“Umm… you look really cool today,” Lin Muqing said, after looking into his eyes and checking out his outfit. Then she gave a cheeky little grin.
“You’re really cute too.”
Ye Ziming raised an eyebrow and replied with a playful smile.
“You must be the most stylish one on this whole street.”
“Yep. And you’re the cutest.”
“You—”
The two of them kept teasing each other like that. On the surface, it looked like they were just complimenting each other, but in reality, they were trading playful jabs.
The whole exchange was almost painful to watch. They were roasting each other with straight faces, but Ye Ziming always managed to reply smoothly and hit back just right.
By the end, he didn’t take any damage, and somehow managed to win the exchange completely.
Lin Muqing was annoyed, she had lost the banter war.
Even worse, she was the one who started it, so technically, it was her fault. That made her even more upset.
So she pouted, turned her head, and with her face flushed red, she “got mad” and didn’t want to play with him anymore.
Ye Zizhuo & Ye Mengze: Uh... (hiccup) We ate too much.
A little while later, Meng Yue and Li Muning came out of the kitchen and sat down on the sofa to chat and watch TV.
During the conversation, Lin Muqing learned something new: she had gotten lost when she was five years old.
But here was the problem, she couldn’t remember anything from when she was five or younger. Technically, she didn’t even know Meng Yue.
Still, not remembering didn’t mean those memories were gone. Maybe they were just hidden deep inside her mind. That could be why she felt a strange sense of familiarity when she was with Meng Yue.
“You really can’t remember anything?” Meng Yue asked, clearly a bit worried.
“Nope,” Lin Muqing nodded. She truly couldn’t remember a thing.
There was no doctor here, and no one really understood medical stuff, so Meng Yue suggested taking Lin Muqing to the hospital for a check-up.
Also, there was something that Meng Yue and Lin Cong hadn’t told anyone, before Lin Muqing got lost as a child, she had shown signs of developmental delay. This was kept very well hidden, so well that even her three older brothers had no idea about it.
But looking at her now, it was clear that their precious daughter was completely fine. After all, how else could she have gotten into the top-scoring high school in Chengnan?
If Lin Muqing really had been mentally slow, then what about all those kids who failed their entrance exams and didn’t get into that school? Hmm...
“I don’t think it’s necessary. I just had a check-up not long ago.”
As Lin Muqing spoke, she nudged her good buddy beside her and gave him a meaningful look.
Ye Ziming understood right away. He pulled out his phone, opened his email, and showed Meng Yue the digital medical report.
Even after seeing the report, Meng Yue still looked a little worried. She was thinking about booking an appointment with a doctor for a more thorough check-up.
“Sis, the room is ready.”
After a while, Lin Qiwen came down from upstairs and told Lin Muqing the room was ready, while getting ready to help move her things up.
Behind him were Lin Zixuan and Lin Yiming, following more slowly. They didn’t want to look as eager as Lin Qiwen.
“Come on, let’s go to your new room,” Meng Yue said as she stood up. She wanted to take her daughter up herself and also check how well her sons had done their job.
“Okay!”
Lin Muqing smiled sweetly, stood up, and followed her mom upstairs.
At this point, the three brothers only knew that their sister was moving in—they didn’t know their future brother-in-law was also moving in with her.
So when they were helping carry things upstairs, they thought Ye Ziming’s stuff belonged to Lin Muqing and rushed to move it all into her room.
Ye Ziming raised an eyebrow in surprise but didn’t say anything. He calmly followed Lin Muqing upstairs.
“Wait—why are you coming up with us?”
After putting the things into the room, Lin Qiwen turned around and suddenly noticed Ye Ziming had followed them into Lin Muqing’s room.
His face changed, and he spoke in an unfriendly tone.
The moment he said this, the other two "sis-con" brothers also turned to glare at Ye Ziming. Their eyes clearly said, ‘Why is a guy entering our sister’s room? That’s not okay.’
“Is there a problem?”
Before Ye Ziming could say anything, Lin Muqing stepped in front of him and frowned slightly. She tilted her head up and calmly asked the question.
Off to the side, Meng Yue suddenly realized: oh no, she had completely forgotten to tell her sons about this arrangement earlier.
“Of course there’s a problem!”
Lin Qiwen widened his eyes and answered angrily.
“Ahem… Lin Muqing, this is your private room. You shouldn’t let guys enter it so casually. Of course, someone very close to you might be an exception,” said Lin Zixuan, stepping forward to gently try to reason with her.
“Yeah. After all, boys and girls should keep a respectful distance.”
Lin Yiming nodded calmly and sided with his two younger brothers.
Even though the three brothers usually competed with each other, the moment they saw Lin Muqing standing in front of Ye Ziming to protect him, they all agreed. No more fighting among themselves, it’s time to unite against the outsider.
“Good point.”
Lin Muqing raised her eyebrows and widened her eyes as she listened to their reasoning, then nodded seriously.
...And then she turned around and kicked all three brothers out of her room, leaving only her good buddy and her mom inside.
“Pfft—”
Meng Yue, who had been quietly watching the whole scene play out, couldn’t help it. She burst out laughing.
