Chapter 10: My System Is Reliable
Glancing at the time, An Han saw that it was only nine o’clock at night. He got up from the stone bench and joined the students jogging around the field, running slowly along the rubber track.
He had a habit of exercising.
Every other day, he would jog about two kilometers on the school track. It wasn’t because he really cared about being healthy. He just thought that since he usually didn’t do much good, it’d be nice to at least be able to run fast when someone tried to beat him up.
Of course, the main reason was that the school required every student to run a total of 100 kilometers per semester, or they would fail P.E.
Even though there were ways to cheat, like one person running while the whole dorm shared the credit, An Han still did it honestly.
After all, his body was way too skinny, and he hoped running could help him build some muscle.
After two laps, his breathing grew heavier, so he slowed down a bit and glanced around at the nearby girls.
The school had a gender ratio of about four to six, more girls than boys, and the girls were pretty good-looking too. In theory, finding a girlfriend shouldn’t be that hard. But in reality, everyone in An Han’s dorm was still single.
Chen Junjie was a little better off. He’d had a few girlfriends over the years, but they all ended up breaking up with him.
“No girls coming to talk to me either,” he muttered softly.
The system’s reward clearly wasn’t working. He’d been on the track for over half an hour, and not a single girl came up to chat with him.
He had hoped that the “affection” feature would help him find a pretty girlfriend.
“What’s with all this nonsense...” He sighed, feeling tired all over, and sat down on the grass in the middle of the track. Lying flat on his back, he stared up at the pitch-black night sky. “I really think my system has a problem.”
After all, what kind of normal system would make a guy seduce another guy...
He sighed softly, but then noticed someone sitting down beside him.
“Wang Sheng? You’re out running too?”
“Yeah.”
Wang Sheng was his roommate. He slept in the bunk under An Han’s and they shared the same closet and worked at the same desk, so they got along fairly well.
He was tall and thin, quiet and introverted, but very good at gaming. His dream was to become a professional esports player.
An Han usually didn’t pick on him much, since bullying him didn’t give much reaction. Not like the fun back-and-forth he had with Wu Dongming.
“Didn’t see you during the day,” An Han asked.
“I went home.” Wang Sheng lay down too, resting his head on his hands just like An Han.
The two didn’t have many topics in common. After a short silence, Wang Sheng finally said, “A club invited me for a tryout.”
“That’s great, isn’t it?”
“My family won’t let me.”
[Option 1: Help Wang Sheng become a professional esports player. Reward: ……]
[Option 2: Comfort him. Reward: ……]
[Option 3: Ignore the topic. Reward: Random attribute point.]
An Han glanced at the system window that appeared again. Without even checking what the rewards were, he immediately chose option three.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to help, he knew a little about the esports scene and even watched matches sometimes, but Wang Sheng was already twenty. Most pro players were sixteen to eighteen, and they were just as skilled, if not better, and had way more potential. There was no way he could complete that task.
“What’s Brother Long doing back in the dorm?” An Han asked casually.
[Task complete. Body stat +1.]
As expected, the third options were always the easiest ones.
An Han secretly felt happy inside. He always focused on the first mission and its crazy rewards, but actually, those attribute points were pretty good too.
He had always been bothered by how he couldn’t gain any weight no matter how much he ate. At almost 1.7 meters tall, he weighed barely over 48 kg, so thin that a strong gust of wind could probably knock him over.
“Looks like Junjie is asking around in the school group.”
“Knew it...”
“He’s saying that Brother Long likes that girl?” Wang Sheng muttered softly. “Didn’t expect him to actually catch feelings.”
“When are you going to catch feelings then?”
“I’ll pass,” Wang Sheng quickly shook his head.
“I’m gonna run two more laps.” After getting his reward, An Han’s mood instantly improved. He got up happily and continued jogging.
He suddenly realized that unless he was completely sure of success, choosing the third option was the easiest and most straightforward choice.
So far, he had gained points in two attributes, physique and charm, one point each. It wasn’t much, but with how often the system gave him missions, it wouldn’t be hard to add another ten or twenty points over time.
“Hope the body stat also makes me taller~”
He soon forgot all about the earlier task involving Wu Dongming. After another two laps, he returned to the dorm completely drenched in sweat.
If you didn’t run often, jogging could be torture, but An Han was used to it. Plus, the feeling of showering and collapsing into bed afterward was actually great.
As soon as he opened the dorm door, Brother Long and Chen Junjie both turned their heads toward him at the same time.
Startled, An Han instinctively took a step back, forcing a smile. “Why are you both looking at me like that?”
Wait, did something happen?
Did they find the women’s clothes I hid in the closet?!
“An Han, just admit it already.” Chen Junjie looked at him with mock seriousness. “That girl was definitely you in disguise. I asked my friends in the department, there’s no one who even looks close to her.”
Admit, my foot!
An Han kept an innocent face. “Do I look like the kind of guy who’d wear women’s clothes?”
“Yes! You never do anything normal anyway.”
An Han shot him a glare, then glanced at Long Xing, who hadn’t said anything, and walked straight to the wardrobe. “Not doing normal things is one thing, but how could I turn that into dressing myself up?”
He opened the wardrobe and crouched down to check the deepest part, the women’s clothes were still there.
Relieved, he let out a quiet sigh.
As long as they didn’t have evidence, he could keep pretending to be innocent.
Grabbing a washbasin and some clean clothes, he went to the bathroom on the balcony. Before long, his angry voice came from inside. “Chen Junjie! You used my shampoo again, didn’t you?!”
“So what? You should be proud I even use it!”
“You looking for a fight?!”
“Can you even beat me?!”
Just wait till I max out my physique stat, I’ll punch you till flowers bloom on your face!
“You better watch yourself tonight!” An Han shouted back, full of rage. “Don’t blame me if I shove a cockroach in your mouth!”
Before Chen Junjie could reply, he slammed the bathroom door shut with a loud bang.
They’d had a grudge ever since freshman year when they fought over bunk beds, and the two had never gotten along since.
But that’s fine. He might’ve been weaker before, but now he had a system!
Feeling pleased, An Han stripped off his clothes in the bathroom, looking down at his stomach with expectation.
Hmm, just one physique point. No abs yet, that’s normal.
He turned his head to look at his arm and flexed his bicep.
Why... is it flat?
Something felt off.
He had been skinny before, sure, but at least he had some muscle.
Now, it felt like his body was actually softer instead.
While showering, he examined himself carefully. His body did look fuller. His wrists, waist, chest, and legs all seemed to have gained a bit of flesh. He looked like he had put on several kilos, reaching a normal, healthy weight.
Overall, he definitely looked better, no longer like someone who’d collapse if a breeze hit him.
But the problem was... he’d also lost some muscle.
“Guess the system thought I was too skinny, so it’s making me gain weight first, huh?”
An Han nodded in satisfaction, smiling. “My system’s actually pretty reliable.”
