Chapter 13: Solving the Hidden Danger Once and for All!
At night, An Han went to a corner of the sports field. In the empty, quiet space, he practiced his fake voice while holding his phone.
Maybe he was just naturally talented, something that usually takes normal people months to learn. He managed to pick up the basics after watching a few videos and practicing for only an hour.
But his fake voice sounded too airy, like the falsetto people use when singing high notes. It made his speech sound awkward, and if he wasn’t careful, his voice would suddenly crack.
“This won’t work at all. I can’t use this for normal talking.”
An Han frowned and rewatched the tutorial carefully, but all the technical terms were hard to understand. Even the explanations made his head spin.
The experts in the video could make their fake voices sound just like a real girl’s, but his own still sounded stiff and unnatural.
After trying several more times without any progress, An Han took a sip of water and decisively gave up.
Anyway, simple words like “mm” or “okay” wouldn’t sound too strange, as long as Long Xing didn’t listen too carefully.
“After this, I’ll never wear girl’s clothes again.”
“If Brother Long hadn’t started doubting me, I wouldn’t even be doing this…”
“It’s definitely not because I wanted that mission reward.”
He had realized something, the missions that gave the best rewards were always the biggest traps.
The harder the mission, the worse the side effects, which often put him in even more danger.
But damn, those rewards were just too tempting.
Stretching lazily, An Han slowly walked back to his dorm.
The dorm was always the noisiest at night. As soon as he entered, he saw Long Xing lifting dumbbells with a grunt, Chen Junjie yelling into his headset while his keyboard clattered nonstop, and Wang Sheng, the quietest of the group, silently playing games with his headphones on.
An Han glanced at the big muscles on Long Xing’s arm and the fierce-looking tattoo wrapped around it, and he couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
One punch from this guy could probably make someone beg for mercy.
Even though after two years of living together he knew that Long Xing wasn’t part of any gang, he was actually kind of simple-minded, his tattoos and muscles still made him intimidating. When he stood in the cafeteria line, no one dared to cut in front of him.
“Where did you go?” Long Xing asked, looking up.
An Han grabbed the water cup on his desk and casually replied, “Just walked around outside. The air conditioner in the dorm makes it too stuffy.”
Just wait! Once my body stats are maxed out, I won’t be scared of you finding out my first love was me in girl’s clothes!
He took a sip of water and turned to look at Wang Sheng beside him.
Wang Sheng was playing a game called CS:GO. He said his rank was something like “Earth Division, 2700 points.” An Han had no idea what that meant, but he did know Wang Sheng was really good at the game.
After watching for a while, An Han mischievously poked Wang Sheng in the waist.
That one poke made Wang Sheng’s movement go off, and the next second, his character got sniped right in the head.
Wang Sheng looked up at him calmly and said, “Don’t mess around.”
He was clearly used to being bothered by An Han already.
“I’m just testing your ability to stay focused under distraction,” An Han said seriously.
“He just needs a good beating,” Chen Junjie shouted from behind.
An Han turned around, raised his hand in a delicate, feminine pose, and spoke in a girly tone, “Oh~ then come and do it~”
“Get lost, damn it!”
Seeing how disgusted Chen Junjie looked made An Han even prouder. Humming smugly, he climbed onto his bed, pulled out his phone, and opened WeChat.
That morning, Long Xing had already added him as a friend. An Han even changed his WeChat gender to female, but so far, Long Xing hadn’t sent him a single message.
This made An Han a little nervous. He wondered if something had gone wrong. But after thinking about it, he figured Long Xing was just too shy.
Still, the “girl” he was pretending to be was supposed to be shy too. After all, when he met Long Xing for the first time in women’s clothes, he was too embarrassed to say a single word.
Holding his phone, An Han thought about how to start a conversation like a girl, when suddenly, a message popped up.
“Hi, are you there?”
He froze for a second and peeked toward Long Xing’s desk.
Seriously? It’s 2021! Who still starts a chat with “are you there”?
Normally, if he saw a message like that, he wouldn’t even bother replying.
“I’m Long Xing, the one who helped you climb the wall the other night.”
Okay, at least the guy wasn’t dumb. He added an explanation right away.
After thinking for a bit, An Han decided to keep his shy, quiet girl persona and simply replied with, “Mm.”
“She replied!” Long Xing said excitedly, waving his phone at Chen Junjie. “She seems to like me!”
“She replied with one word and you think she likes you?” Chen Junjie rolled his eyes. “What if the person chatting with you is actually An Han?”
“No way.” Long Xing turned to glance at the upper bunk where An Han was. He saw An Han lying on his bed, holding his phone horizontally and typing fast. “He’s playing a game.”
Chen Junjie sighed helplessly. “The photo you took looks exactly like An Han. Why won’t you believe me?”
“She just looks like him, that’s all.”
“Okay, let’s say there is a girl in school who looks exactly like An Han. But we already posted her photo on the school forum, the department chat, and the student council group. Hundreds of people have seen it, and no one knows her? Isn’t that weird?”
On the top bunk, pretending to play games, An Han’s eyelids twitched. He lifted his head in disbelief.
Wait—what?! Are you guys insane?!
Posting my photo without permission? That’s a violation of image rights!
If this gets exposed, won’t the whole school find out that someone cross-dressed to flirt with his own roommate?!
That would be the ultimate social death!
An Han was furious but couldn’t show it. Even though he wanted to jump down and slap each of them, he had to keep pretending to be calm and continue playing the role of a shy girl online. He quickly sent a message to Long Xing.
“I saw my photo on the school forum.”
Long Xing panicked. “That was my roommate. I’ll tell him to delete it right now.”
An Han finally felt a bit relieved. To make it look convincing, he acted angry and sent an angry sticker: “Hmph!”
Right then, Chen Junjie, who was coaching Long Xing on how to text girls, turned around with a teasing smile. “Hey, An Han! That girl’s using the same sticker pack as you.”
“???”
Damn it! I slipped up!
Holding back his frustration, An Han snapped, “What’s it got to do with me?!”
That Nanase Kurumi sticker pack was super popular, lots of people used it! It wasn’t that strange if someone else sent the same one.
He tried to comfort himself, but then another message came in from Long Xing.
“Wanna hang out sometime?”
Here it comes!
An Han instantly focused, typing carefully. First politely refusing, then pretending to hesitate, and finally “giving in” after some back-and-forth.
They agreed to meet the night after tomorrow, under the broken streetlight near the sports field.
This will definitely be the last time I wear women’s clothes!
I’ll settle this once and for all!
