Chapter 104: Hello… Who Are You?

[Mo Chengling: Your parents will arrive at the airport tomorrow morning, remember to get ready.]

It was Saturday morning. Mo Ziyang had just gotten out of bed when he read the message on his phone and fell into deep thought.

It didn’t feel like much time had passed, yet his parents were already about to return to the country…

That meant tomorrow, he either had to bring Lin Muxi along to pick them up, or stay here and wait for his parents to come find him.

Thinking of this, he turned his head to look at the girl still sleeping soundly beside him, exhausted from overwork. For a moment, Mo Ziyang felt a bit complicated.

After all, his grandpa had only told him that his parents liked Lin Muxi, but he didn’t really know what the real situation would be.

What if they met and didn’t like her? Or disliked her family background? What should he do then…

Feeling uneasy, Mo Ziyang gently stroked Lin Muxi’s hair, then opened his contacts and found his mother. Even though he didn’t know what to say, after thinking for a while, he still sent a message.

[Mo Ziyang: Mom, when does your flight land tomorrow? Do you need me to pick you up?]

He stared at the screen for a few seconds, but his mother didn’t reply. Mo Ziyang thought she was busy with work early in the morning, so he tossed the phone aside and went to wash up.

What he didn’t know was that his mother, Xu Lanyi, had already seen the message abroad, she just hadn’t replied yet.

So, while Mo Ziyang was washing up, his mother tried sending him a few messages. When no reply came, she decided to directly call him.

The ringing phone instantly woke up Lin Muxi, who was still sleeping in bed.

“Ugh… whose call is that…”

Half-awake, she opened her drowsy eyes. Her little face still showed tiredness from not getting enough sleep.

Following the sound, she fumbled around and grabbed Mo Ziyang’s phone.

But since she was too sleepy, all she wanted was to quickly answer the call, deal with it, and go back to her nap.

Without even looking at the screen to see who was calling, she directly answered.

“Hello…? Who is this…”

On the other side, a gentle but slightly confused female voice spoke, making Xu Lanyi puzzled for a moment.

Still, with the information she had learned earlier from Mo Ziyang’s grandpa, she quickly guessed this was probably her son’s little girlfriend. But Xu Lanyi didn’t rush to say who she was, after all, the girl still sounded half-asleep.

“Hm? Isn’t this Mo’er’s number…?”

Hearing this, Lin Muxi immediately felt annoyed.

She had already been exhausted last night, and now some stranger was calling the wrong number early in the morning, disturbing her sleep.

What Mo’er, Mo’er… seriously.

Why don’t people check the number before calling?

What, is this “Mo’er” supposed to be her good bro Mo Ziyang or something?

Still, out of politeness, before hanging up, Lin Muxi held back her sleepiness and asked:

“Um, did you maybe call the wrong number…? If it’s nothing, I’m going to hang up.”

But then the woman on the phone said, “Don’t you know Mo Ziyang? I’m his mother. And this number is correct.”

???

Mo Ziyang’s… mother??

Her mind went blank. Right now she only wanted to crawl back under the blanket and sleep, but instead—

“Huh? What?”

Suddenly wide awake, Lin Muxi sat straight up in bed, holding her bro’s phone and staring at the screen in disbelief.

The word “Mother” was written in big letters right on the caller ID.

Oh my god! She had just answered a call from Mo Ziyang’s mother!

Lin Muxi was completely stunned.

After knowing the truth, she couldn’t be more regretful. She really wished she could slap her past self a few times.

But now that she had already answered Mo Ziyang’s mother’s call, she couldn’t just hang up, right?

Hearing the questions constantly coming from the other side, Lin Muxi had no choice but to calm her panicked little heart, gather her courage again, and pick up the phone to answer.

“Um… please wait a moment, I… I’ll go get him now.”

“Alright, go quickly.”

After getting the reply, Lin Muxi carried the phone, got off the bed, and ran toward Mo Ziyang, who was boiling water in the kitchen.

But clearly, she overestimated her weak and tired body.

Right in front of Mo Ziyang’s confused gaze, her legs suddenly gave out, and while holding her good bro’s phone, she fell forward without warning.

“Ahhh—”

Just when she closed her eyes, ready to meet a tragic ending, her small body was caught and supported by a pair of hands.

“What’s the rush, running around like this?”

Mo Ziyang looked at the clumsy little fool in front of him and couldn’t help but feel angry. She clearly knew her body hadn’t recovered yet, but early in the morning she was still running around recklessly, always making him worry.

“Uuuh…”

“Y-you… your mom’s call, I wasn’t fully awake and accidentally picked it up this morning.”

Even though she was scared by the sudden fall, Lin Muxi slowly stood up with Mo Ziyang’s help and immediately handed him the phone.

“Hm? My mom called?”

“Mm…”

Lin Muxi nodded at him. Mo Ziyang placed the silly girl on the sofa, then took the phone.

“Hello, Mom, what do you need me for?”

“Oh, I just saw the messages my good son sent me, so I called to check in on you.”

Hearing that, Mo Ziyang pulled open the message bar and finally saw all the unread messages his mom had sent.

He felt a little embarrassed…

Who knew the moment he left, his mom would start sending messages, and in the end, Lin Muxi happened to be the one who answered the call.

Feeling awkward, he coughed twice to cover it up and said, “I… just woke up and was washing up, didn’t see them.”

“Looks like I guessed right, the one who picked up the phone just now must be your little girlfriend, huh?”

“Uh…” Mo Ziyang scratched his head, mumbling, clearly embarrassed.

“Oh my, you’ve grown up and even learned how to get shy now.”

“You used to always tell me you’d never get a girlfriend, but now I bet you’re even staying over at her place.”

“Mom!”

Hearing his mother reveal his embarrassing past, Mo Ziyang quickly shouted to stop her, already feeling ashamed. His loud voice made Lin Muxi, sitting beside him, look at him in confusion.

“Alright, alright, I’ll stop. But remember, tomorrow you have to bring your little girlfriend to the airport to pick me and your dad up.”

After his mother Xu Lanyi hung up, Mo Ziyang finally let out a long sigh of relief and slumped down next to Lin Muxi.

No need to say anything, this was totally something only his mom would do. If he had turned on the speakerphone, he would have completely lost face in front of this silly girl.

“Sigh…”

While he was sighing in relief, Lin Muxi couldn’t sit still anymore. She didn’t really understand what her good bro and his mom had talked about, but just from his expression, she knew it wasn’t simple. After all, for Mo Ziyang to show that kind of slightly embarrassed face, it was definitely rare.

Smelling gossip, she immediately leaned closer to him and looked at him with curious little eyes.

“So… what did your mom just say to you?”

“Nothing much, just asked me to take you to the airport tomorrow.”

Lin Muxi stared wide-eyed at her serious-looking good bro, her face full of “are you kidding me?”

“That’s it? Nothing else?”

“That’s it. Nothing else.”

Mo Ziyang smiled lightly. Even though his mom had completely cornered him earlier, dealing with Lin Muxi was still an easy job. Of course, he already knew what this silly girl wanted.

To put it simply, she just wanted to laugh at his misfortune. How could he possibly let her succeed?

Lin Muxi, on the other hand, was speechless. Things were clearly not that simple, yet he insisted nothing else happened. Did he really think she was that dumb?

No matter how many hints she gave, Mo Ziyang just stayed silent, wearing that slightly smug smile at the corner of his lips.

That provoking look made her furious, like facing an enemy who was openly arrogant, but she couldn’t do anything about it except let him tease her.

Ugh! So annoying!

She glared at Mo Ziyang, but in the end could only pout and plop down to the side angrily.

Mo Ziyang could only chuckle helplessly and gently rubbed her head.

“Really, it’s nothing. She just asked me some things about you.”

Hearing this, Lin Muxi couldn’t sit still anymore. She quickly leaned over onto him, looking up at him like she was begging.

“Tell me now! How could you keep something like this from me for so long?”

Mo Ziyang just shrugged, finding it funny.

“You didn’t ask.”

“You—ahhh, Mo Ziyang!”

Lin Muxi lifted her little fist and hit his chest in frustration, venting all her anger.

How hateful!

Did he think she was a kitten he could just toy with?

“Alright, alright, I was wrong.”

Seeing the silly girl puff her cheeks and angrily pat his chest, Mo Ziyang realized maybe he had gone too far with the teasing, so he quickly apologized.

He really only wanted to mess with her a little, not truly upset her. But Lin Muxi wasn’t satisfied. She turned her head away with a huff.

“That’s not how you apologize. Do it again.”

“Huh?” Mo Ziyang froze.

What did she mean by “not like that”?

He didn’t fully get what she wanted, but when he noticed the blush creeping onto her angry little face, an idea came to him.

After a moment of thought, he leaned in from behind, gently wrapping his arms around her. His head brushed against her hair as he whispered into her ear.

“I’m sorry… my wife.”

As expected, the tips of her ears instantly turned red. Clearly, he had guessed right.

This stubborn little girl always wanted things, but would never admit it.

Mo Ziyang grinned knowingly and added, “So? Satisfied now, my dear wife?”

“Wh—who’s satisfied? Hmph!”

Blushing like crazy, Lin Muxi broke free from his arms and fled to her room, her face still burning. On the way, she was so flustered that she nearly tripped at the doorway.

Watching from the sofa, Mo Ziyang couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

As expected of his little sweetheart, even when angry, she was this adorable.
