Chapter 52: His Own Mission
“The water is boiled, and the medicine is here.”
“Later, order some takeout. Eat something before taking the medicine.”
Ren Chi clearly didn’t notice An Han’s real condition. He simply assumed it was just a fever.
After placing the medicine and hot water on the desk, he looked down at An Han, who was still lying on the table as if he felt really sick.
“Then… I’ll go first?”
“Yes yes, go!” An Han looked up happily.
Ren Chi felt like this guy was trying to kick him out.
He couldn’t help but laugh as he reached out and rubbed An Han’s head. His eyes were gentle, and his tone was calm as he reminded him, “If anything happens, just call me.”
An Han’s whole body froze.
“At least call me ‘Brother Ren,’ right?” Ren Chi said with a smile as he walked toward the door.
He felt that having a mischievous little brother like An Han was actually pretty nice. Although, in the eyes of normal people, An Han’s hobbies were a bit too much.
When the door closed, An Han let out a long breath. He slowly got up from the chair and slapped his burning cheeks with both hands.
“That was too scary!”
“Using this item actually made me the one who gets charmed!”
“That feeling…”
It was completely different from his usual emotional rush. This time it was a desire to be touched, to be hugged, a burning heat all over his body. A strange, almost frightening sensation.
An Han trembled once, shivering even though he wasn’t cold.
The heat on his skin hadn’t faded yet. Supporting himself with the wardrobe and bed frame along the way, he hopped to the balcony, turned on the tap at the laundry sink, and splashed cold water directly onto his face.
But since it was summer, the tap water wasn’t very cold, so it didn’t cool him down much. Still, the pain in his ankle slowly pulled him back to normal.
He nervously deleted the selfie photos from his camera. The disguised makeup effect on his face disappeared completely. The “handsome, delicate boy” from just now returned to his usual pretty, feminine look.
“The system never gives anything good.”
Muttering to himself, An Han returned to his computer. Another thought suddenly came to him:
“If the system gives me a house or a car someday, will there also be weird side effects?”
“Like the description says it’s a beautiful villa, but in reality it’s an old broken wooden house in the mountains?”
“Or maybe a lottery ticket reward… where I win money but can’t actually get the prize?”
It’s not that he was thinking badly, he had simply been scammed by the system too many times.
But thinking carefully, it wasn’t all bad. If nothing unexpected happened, the side effect of the disguise item only worked on men.
Unless he dressed up and then went wandering close to men, he wouldn’t get that feverish, crazy reaction. This also meant that during winter and summer vacations, he could use this item to hide his changes from his mother.
If nothing unexpected happened…
Putting the medicine Ren Chi prepared back into the drawer, An Han angled his injured foot, held onto the ladder for support, and jumped up to his bed on one leg.
Not to mention the trouble of going home during holidays. First, let’s think about when his roommates return after National Day.
During the National Day holiday, he tried very hard not to trigger the system and not to increase new stats, but he still ended up getting the “Skin and Bone” change. Because this affected his body shape and bone structure, the change was very obvious. He definitely needed to think of a way to cover it up.
And Long Xing still had a favorability level a bit above 80 toward him, clearly showing signs of liking him.
Su Peng’s favorability was almost 90. Even though he hadn’t shown any signs of liking him yet, An Han still needed to be careful.
“Should I just stop being human and lower their favorability?”
“Since I can raise their favorability, then I can definitely lower it too!”
He paused, then suddenly got excited again.
“New mission target! Lower both of their favorability by 10 points! After completing it, I’ll reward myself with a good meal!”
Ever since he discovered that the system was unreliable, he hadn’t been excited about a mission for a long time.
If only the system could give tasks like this…
“Maybe play a prank on them? Or do something they hate?”
He lay on his bed, thinking hard about what Long Xing and Su Peng hated the most.
Long Xing had a short temper. He seemed to really dislike other people doing things too slowly. In class, he was always the first to get up, never waited for his roommates, and always went to the classroom alone.
As for Su Peng… he hadn’t interacted with him that much before, so he really didn’t know what Su Peng hated.
Maybe… he hated vegetables?
These past few days, when they ate together, Su Peng always ate only meat. Most of the vegetables in his takeout were left untouched. He was definitely a pure meat lover.
He wrote down both of their habits in his phone notes and tried to think about how to complete the mission.
Just as he was thinking, the door was suddenly pushed open. He was so startled that he sat up straight on the bed and turned around in panic. He saw Su Peng rushing in, looking worried.
“Su Peng? Didn’t you go to the meetup?” An Han asked in surprise.
“Didn’t you say you sprained your ankle?” Su Peng quickly walked to the bed and looked up at An Han above.
“But you said you’d only be back at night, right?”
Seeing that he didn’t seem seriously hurt, Su Peng explained, “I felt like your voice sounded really urgent, so I rushed back.”
“You didn’t walk back here by yourself, right?”
“No, the counselor carried me back and took me to the clinic. They said resting for two days will be enough.”
“The counselor, huh?”
Only then did Su Peng relax. “As long as you’re fine. If you told me earlier that everything was okay, I wouldn’t have rushed back so fast.”
Even though his concern warmed An Han’s heart, An Han narrowed his eyes. His caution grew even stronger. He replied casually, “How am I supposed to know you’d be so anxious? You could’ve just called me before coming back.”
No wonder his favorability was almost 90, he rushed over the moment he heard something happened.
An Han watched Su Peng quietly, trying to see something in his eyes.
Could it be that a man really liked him?
Even if it’s favorability, there should be “brotherly affection” and “romantic affection,” right? Maybe Su Peng’s favorability toward him was just brother-like?
“So, how was the meetup? Was it fun?”
“Not really. Just some small games, card games, stuff like that.”
Su Peng sat on the lower bunk, crossed his legs, and looked up at An Han. “But the girls from that school were all pretty.”
He noticed that An Han’s face looked whiter and smoother than when he saw him this morning.
“What school was it?”
“Art Academy. All good-looking guys and pretty girls.”
“Did you like anyone?” An Han asked with gossipy interest.
Su Peng shook his head. “I added a few on WeChat, but none of them are my type.”
“Aren’t they all pretty? Don’t be too picky. It’s already good if some girl likes you.”
With Su Peng’s looks, as long as he wasn’t aiming for a goddess-level girl, he should have no problem finding someone.
“It’s not about looks. It’s personality.” Su Peng sighed. “I asked a few of those girls. They’re regulars at nightclubs and bars, dancing every night. No way I can date someone like that.”
Trying not to laugh, An Han said, “Don’t say it like that. Just because a girl smokes, has tattoos, dyes her hair, or goes clubbing doesn’t mean she’s a bad girl.”
“Tch. Going sometimes is fine. Going every day is a problem.” Su Peng shook his head. “Those girls are too hard to deal with. I’d rather play duo games with you.”
This sentence made An Han even more alert, so he carefully tested him. “Don’t say that like you like me.”
“Stop sounding girly now that you’re dressing more like a woman. I can’t handle that.”
Su Peng’s answer finally made An Han relax a little.
So it really was just brotherly affection!
