Chapter 138: Keep Your Word
After Lin Muxi changed back into her clothes, Mo Ziyang took the swimsuit out of the fitting room first to pay.
While he was busy, Lin Muxi peeked her little head out from behind the curtain, her eyes moving nervously as she carefully checked the customers and staff around.
When she was sure no one was looking this way, she quickly slipped out of the fitting room with a small “ah!” sound, then pretended like nothing happened as she walked to stand quietly beside her good bro.
But of course, this couldn’t escape the sharp eyes of the shop assistant. And since Lin Muxi’s cute face had already caught their attention when she came in with Mo Ziyang, she was easy to recognize.
So when she reached Mo Ziyang’s side, she noticed the cashier was giving her a strange, meaningful look while ringing up the purchase.
???
What kind of look was that… she definitely knows something!
Feeling guilty under that stare, Lin Muxi quickly avoided her eyes and turned her head away, even hiding half her body behind Mo Ziyang’s back. In her heart, she was silently urging him to hurry up and finish so they could leave.
“Hey… hurry up.”
When she saw Mo Ziyang finishing payment but still asking the clerk if there were other nice swimsuits, Lin Muxi, annoyed, poked his back and whispered to him to hurry.
The clerk’s expression was way too irritating. She really couldn’t stand being there another second. It was just too embarrassing.
Sensing Lin Muxi’s little outburst, Mo Ziyang gave up on the idea of buying more swimsuits. He simply held her hand and left the shop.
After that, they wandered around the mall for a bit. Mo Ziyang bought a pair of swim trunks for himself, then took his little sweetheart to lunch before carrying a small umbrella to walk her back to the hotel.
“Do you like this swimsuit?”
On the way, Mo Ziyang held Lin Muxi’s hand, asking with curiosity and a bit of expectation.
After all, this was probably her first time wearing a swimsuit, so he wanted to make sure she liked the one he picked.
Luckily, Lin Muxi gave him a quick glance and softly replied, “Mm.”
Of course she couldn’t say she disliked it, it was a gift from her good bro. And honestly, the cute design matched her taste. The only problem was… it showed a little too much.
At least, that’s how Lin Muxi felt.
But then she remembered that the beach they were going to would only have her and Mo Ziyang, so it didn’t matter as much.
Thinking of this, she asked again to confirm, “The beach we’re going to, it’s just the two of us, right?”
“Yes. Why? Do you want other people to see you in your swimsuit?” Mo Ziyang raised an eyebrow, teasing her.
“What—! Of course not!”
Lin Muxi immediately argued back, her face puffing up as she hit him with a small fist.
Always teasing her like this, he was too much!
Back at the hotel, Lin Muxi quickly took out both her swimsuit and Mo Ziyang’s swim trunks. She brought them into the bathroom, rinsed them with water herself, and only then was she willing to hang them out by the window to dry.
Even though they would get wet again in the sea later, she still insisted on washing them first, no matter what Mo Ziyang said.
Seeing this, Mo Ziyang was left speechless. In all their years as close friends, this was the first time he realized Lin Muxi might actually have a bit of a clean-freak side.
Luckily, the midday sun was strong, and the freshly rinsed clothes would dry quickly on the windowsill. But this also made Lin Muxi give up the thought of rushing straight to the beach right away.
Looking at the blazing sun outside, Lin Muxi stood by the window and shook her head again and again. The seaside was nice, but the sunlight at noon was too strong. Even the glass window felt hot from the sun.
When Mo Ziyang saw her standing there, staring at the beach not far away, he walked over and pulled her small body into his arms.
“Already can’t wait to play on the beach?”
His gentle voice came from behind her. Lin Muxi just quietly stayed in his arms and slowly nodded.
“You know, this is the first time I’ve traveled far from home, and also the first time I’ve ever seen the sea.”
Feeling the warmth of his embrace, her body softened as she leaned against his chest. Being this close, she could even hear the strong, steady beat of his heart.
And right at that moment, a strange thought popped into her mind. If her good bro really married her in the future, maybe they could buy a small house by the sea. Then she could come here and play anytime she wanted. And hadn’t he also said before that he would marry her?
As she thought about it, her fair cheeks turned red, and she rubbed her face lightly against his chest without meaning to.
“Hey, Mo Ziyang, can I ask you something?”
“Hm? What’s on your mind again?”
Hearing her soft, slightly spoiled tone, Mo Ziyang guessed she was probably remembering something. Otherwise, would she really stand at the window just to admire the scenery?
(Lin Muxi: Don’t say that, I actually was!)
With a playful “ahh!” sound, her feet left the ground as Mo Ziyang picked her up and carried her to the sofa. She ended up sitting on his lap, leaning against his broad chest like a little bird resting in its nest.
“What is it? Tell me.” Mo Ziyang gently brushed her hair and asked patiently.
“It’s just… just if, in the future, you really marry me… then maybe we could buy a house by the sea…”
Her voice was as soft as a mosquito’s buzz. Her face burned red, and she lowered her head nervously, not daring to meet his eyes. Sitting in his arms, she fidgeted with her fingers, clearly struggling to say such words.
Even though her voice was tiny, Mo Ziyang still heard her clearly.
“What’s this? Already can’t wait for me to marry you?” he teased with a smile, his face full of joy and pride.
He had to admit, this was the first time he had heard such words directly from Lin Muxi. Before, it was always him joking with her, but now it surprised him while also making him very happy.
“You… you said you would marry me, didn’t you?”
Seeing that he was still teasing, Lin Muxi didn’t get angry, she actually grew nervous instead. She lowered her head even more, shrinking against his chest like a child.
“What, you don’t trust your husband?”
Mo Ziyang gently lifted her chin, looking at her with eyes full of affection.
For a moment their eyes met, and Lin Muxi panicked, her gaze darting left and right to escape his.
“I… um, no, that’s not…”
Seeing her flustered face, Mo Ziyang was delighted. Before she could finish, he leaned down and sealed her lips with his.
“Your husband keeps his word,” he whispered when their lips parted.
Just as Lin Muxi was about to say something, he pressed a finger against her lips to silence her.
Understanding his feelings, she didn’t say anything more. Her face red, she quietly rested in his arms.
A rare moment, she didn’t even turn into her usual “steaming little kettle” self.
