[Vol. 8] Chapter 132: What Makes a Good Healer?
"Counting myself, our team had thirteen people. We were all holy priests of four-wing rank or higher, from various temples around the world. We had a good mix of different roles, and even though there was no archbishop or holy knight among us, our overall strength was still quite good."
"At first, I thought things would go smoothly since we had such a good start. But… that temple was really strange..."
She glanced carefully at the black-haired girl. Seeing that the girl didn’t speak, Sybil lowered her voice helplessly and continued.
"I’m not sure why I woke up here, or if Miss Violet has gone through something similar… but that temple is definitely not safe. While walking, enemies suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Their whole bodies were covered in dark shadows, making it impossible to see their true forms. They didn’t try to talk at all, and their strength and attacks were all very different. After we beat them, they didn’t leave behind any bodies, just turned into blue smoke and vanished."
"The worst part is that these strange attackers looked different to each person. To me, they just looked like dark, shapeless blobs. But other priests reacted very strongly. It was as if these shadows became things from deep inside their hearts, the people or memories they cared about most, or were most sensitive to. This messed up our actions and even tempted some people to act recklessly."
"Our team shared the same faith, and we were quite united and strong-willed. But under constant attacks by these illusions, each of us seeing different things, we still suffered heavy damage. A few times, we almost started fighting among ourselves. I think… maybe this is the trial given to us by the goddess."
"Even though the trial was very hard, it wasn’t completely impossible. Over time, we adjusted and relied on our holy recovery powers. Slowly, we got used to the illusions and became better at handling them. But just when we started to adapt… a much stronger enemy appeared."
"It had a short blade and attacked with crazy speed. Its first target seemed to be the priest at the back of the group. I wasn’t ready at all and couldn’t react. I just felt a sharp pain in my neck, and after that… I don’t remember what happened."
BOOM!!!!!!
“Wah!!”
Just as Miss Sybil was finishing her story, a series of loud explosions suddenly echoed from the flower fields in the distance. The priest girl let out a weird shriek and quickly raised her staff like a frightened bird, ducking her head and looking nervously toward the sound. She looked around, watching carefully in all directions.
Ugh… how embarrassing...
Seeing the blonde girl panicking and confused, with her limbs and brain clearly not working together, Violet could more or less understand why this person was the first to get taken out.
It was obvious, even though Miss Sybil had lived through the Fourth Demon War, her real combat experience wasn’t that strong. She had probably spent most of her time in the back lines, using holy magic to heal and support the front-line warriors.
In war, priests, especially high-level ones who can heal large groups, are very important. That’s why the army’s commanders always use their best forces to protect them. As long as the whole army isn’t falling apart, being on the battlefield is usually not that dangerous. It’s almost like being on a sightseeing tour.
But small team fights, especially surprise attacks in unknown places, are a totally different story.
Sigh... If someone this unskilled can only rely completely on their teammates for protection, they really can’t be called a qualified healer.
Muttering this silently to herself, the priest girl didn’t say anything out loud. She just turned her head to look in the direction of the loud noise.
With a deep rumble in the distance, a strange figure was flying quickly across the sky above the field of flowers. But unlike normal wings, the glowing wings behind the figure seemed to be extensions of her long hair, made of the same shining light. As the golden wings sliced through the air, they scattered bright sparkles like tiny stars. The meaning of that glow was immediately clear to both Violet and Sybil.
"A Lightborn?"
The moment she realized who it was, Sybil's alert expression suddenly changed to one of worry and concern.
"Miss Violet! That’s a Lightborn! She seems to be fighting with someone, maybe even the one who killed my teammates. We should hurry and go help her!"
It wasn’t strange for Sybil to react so quickly. In the Holy Empire, which worships the Primordial Light, the Lightborn are treated almost like children of the gods. They are usually shown great respect and care.
The Lightborn are rare and have a very good reputation. No matter their past or personality, they are known for keeping order, being fair, protecting the weak, and helping others. That’s why Sybil saw her right away as an ally who needed help.
However… just because the Lightborn was fighting someone didn’t mean the other side was automatically evil.
Violet, as the true master of the [Six-Line Array Palace], had a broader view. Although her real body was watching over hundreds of different realms at the same time, the form she was using now, this body made from SP, still allowed her to clearly see the current situation.
Right now, behind the flying Lightborn girl in the sky, there was a strange floating machine shaped like a shuttle following closely. It kept firing long-range attacks that looked like glowing spears or laser beams, trying to shoot her down. These blasts were the reason for the loud explosions they had heard earlier.
Things are getting lively. Some people really never let things get boring, huh~
"Whoosh—BOOM!!!"
With a slight smile at the corner of her lips, the priest girl raised her staff and shot a beam of golden light into the sky. It didn’t have any power to hurt, but it exploded like fireworks, drawing attention.
Sure enough, the Lightborn girl who was flying quickly noticed the two girls standing in the flower field below. Her eyes lit up, and without hesitation, she turned and flew straight toward them!
"Miss Violet!!"
She was incredibly fast. In just a few seconds, she turned into a streak of light and flew above them. Her glowing wings, which were made from her long hair, quickly changed back to normal as she landed. This Lightborn, a scholar named Ayla, clearly knew the black-haired girl. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she rushed toward them, ready to speak.
But just then, the shuttle behind her, about the size of a small helicopter, chased her all the way down. Even before it got close, several beams of light shot out like lightning, heading straight for Ayla!
