Chapter 112: What Did the System Do to Me Again!
Would calling the anti-crime hotline even work on the system?
That damn system keeps threatening, forcing, and tempting me. It even ignores my will and gives me cosmetic surgery!
That’s definitely the behavior of a criminal organization!
The thought flashed through An Han’s mind. He lifted his head and answered the voice call on his computer. From the speakers came Su Peng’s voice from the next dorm.
“Hey, can you hear me?”
“You don’t need to ask that every time.”
An Han’s tone was colder than usual, but he quickly realized his mistake and changed to a cheerful one.
“Disciple! Follow me! Protect your master!”
“Alright!”
Man, pretending to be cheerful is so tiring~
Before the sports meet starts, he has to keep Su Peng’s impression of him positive. He can’t let Su Peng sense his cold attitude again.
But doing that only makes Su Peng’s affection rise faster... There were only six points left before it hit 100.
An Han recalled what the system once warned him, ‘Please keep the affection level below 80. Above 100 carries unknown risks.’
When it had reached 80 before, the system triggered an upgrade mission, and that upgrade made it way more twisted and playful than before. So if it reached 100, would there be another upgrade mission?
That thought completely distracted him from the game. Within the first three minutes, he made a mistake and got killed.
“It’s fine, we’ll get them next round,” Su Peng said through voice chat, trying to comfort him.
“Yeah!” An Han quickly shook off his messy thoughts and focused on playing seriously.
Unfortunately… bad players are still bad players. By the fifteen-minute mark, their base exploded.
“This round ended faster than a King-tier match!”
“The enemy must be smurfing!” An Han said angrily, refusing to admit fault. “Look at that guy, fifteen kills! Who let him get that strong?!”
“......” Su Peng paused, then said quietly, “You did.”
Just then, the dorm door swung open. An Han didn’t even have time to argue before turning toward the entrance. Ren Chi stood there, arms crossed, watching him silently from the hallway.
An Han instinctively stood up, trying to calm his racing heart, and walked toward him with a sweet smile.
“Brother Ren~”
The moment he got close, Ren Chi smacked him lightly on the back of the head. It didn’t hurt, but An Han still looked pitiful and lowered his head, nervously fiddling with his shirt hem.
“I knew you’d sneak back to the dorm! Can’t you just cooperate with me for once?” Ren Chi scolded, sounding both angry and disappointed.
“I was wrong~”
Seeing his pitiful expression, Ren Chi sighed. “We get along fine, right? Don’t make things hard for me, okay?”
“Mhm, mhm!” An Han nodded so fast his head almost blurred.
Ren Chi gave up trying to lecture him further and walked down the hall to the next dorm. He pushed the door open—
Su Peng, still confused about why An Han had suddenly gone silent on voice chat, turned his head at the sound of the door.
He was met with the furious glare of the counselor. From the corner of the doorway, a small head peeked out watching gleefully, ready to enjoy the show.
“Uh…”
“Before the sports meet, I’ve said it many times! No going back to the dorm during the event!”
Ren Chi’s tone was much harsher than when he’d scolded An Han. The verbal storm left Su Peng dazed and confused. He didn’t even understand why the counselor was this angry.
“You two are the only ones I caught! And you, An Han! What are you laughing at?! Feel proud of yourself, huh?!”
An Han immediately froze and shook his head hard, his expression serious.
“Get downstairs, now!”
“Got it!”
He grabbed Su Peng’s wrist and quickly ran toward the stairs.
………………
The sports events went on in an orderly way. On the playground, students full of energy could be seen everywhere.
An Han returned to the class’s resting area looking lifeless. He casually found a shady spot to sit down and let out a long sigh.
I thought Ren Chi would pretend not to notice me. Looks like he really takes this sports festival seriously… Well, he’s a new counselor, so it’s normal that he doesn’t want to make mistakes.
In this situation, if I refuse to join the sports festival as the mission says, Ren Chi’s favorability will definitely drop fast, and getting permission for an overnight stay later will be much harder.
An Han looked troubled and glanced at Su Peng, who sat beside him.
“The match tomorrow can’t go wrong,” he said seriously.
“I don’t get what you’re so worried about.”
Although Su Peng had just been scolded by Ren Chi, being near a pretty “fake girl” and smelling the faint fragrance coming from An Han’s body quickly lifted his mood. But the problem was…
“Why did the counselor only yell at me?”
The question made An Han remember Su Peng’s pitiful face while being scolded, and he almost laughed. “Maybe because you look easy to bully?”
After thinking for a second, he smiled and added, “It’s fine. He didn’t say anything too harsh.”
“I just got startled, that’s all.”
“Yeah, he’s the scariest when he squints his eyes.”
Ever since An Han got somewhat familiar with Ren Chi, he hadn’t seen that smiley face very often anymore.
After a short chat, An Han leaned back, put his hands behind his head, and lay down on the cement ground. Su Peng also lay down the same way without hesitation.
An Han closed his eyes, and as his mind calmed, the noise of the sports festival slowly faded away. Around him was only peace and quiet and Su Peng lying not far from him.
The soft sound of the wind, the rustle of leaves above, and the faint, clean fragrance in the air… all his senses felt extra sharp at that moment.
The brain that had been tense from fighting against the system’s tasks slowly relaxed. His mood became peaceful, even a bit pleasantly warm, like a soft, calm kind of happiness. It reminded him of those childhood afternoons when he would nap on a rocking chair.
If I could just stay like this with Su Peng, that wouldn’t be bad…
If he could hug me a bit, that’d be even better—
Like lightning, An Han’s eyes suddenly snapped open.
Wait, am I seriously changing my orientation?! What the hell was I just thinking?!
Panicking, he turned to look at Su Peng, his heart racing, then quickly sat up straight.
“What’s wrong?” Su Peng asked, confused, seeing the faint blush on An Han’s face.
“I need to pee!”
An Han jumped up from the ground and dashed toward the bathroom at the edge of the field like a rabbit, almost bumping into a student nearby.
“Hey, watch where you’re going!”
“I know!”
He shouted back, rushing into the bathroom at full speed. He turned on the faucet and splashed cold water onto his face.
Taking a deep breath, he looked up at the mirror in front of him. The reflection showed the same delicate blush, soft and cute, like a lovestruck girl.
“What’s going on?”
“The system didn’t do anything to me!”
“The only recent change related to it is Su Peng’s favorability…”
