Chapter 114: Su Peng’s Competition
It was the second day of the sports festival.
An Han was already on full alert. He kept looking around suspiciously, searching for any strange signs, afraid that it might be something caused by the system.
“System, what’s Su Peng’s affection level toward me?”
[Su Peng: Affection 97]
He couldn’t avoid interacting with Su Peng, and now there were only three points left before the number reached triple digits. An Han stared hard at that number for a long time before turning to look at Su Peng on the track.
Luckily, Su Peng was competing in the 3000-meter long-distance run today, so he shouldn’t have time to talk to him.
Also, that guy was surrounded by a bunch of girls. Damn it!
All the outgoing girls in the class were cheering for him, handing him water, holding his jacket, and even recording videos on their phones.
“Being handsome really has its perks…” he muttered. “Meanwhile, I’m getting prettier, but when it’s my turn to compete, I’ll probably be surrounded by a bunch of guys instead.”
Jealousy burned fiercely in An Han’s chest, and his eyes almost shot fire.
Damn it! Can those lovestruck girls move away already?! Don’t they see how awkward Su Peng’s smile looks?!
Just then, Su Peng looked in his direction and raised his hand high to wave at him. He could only wave back from afar before quickly turning his head away, afraid he’d notice his jealousy.
An Han moved to a spot with a good view and waited for the 3000-meter race to begin. By noon, he reminded himself, he needed to put on a bra.
It wasn’t a sports bra, but since the relay event didn’t require too much running, it should be fine, mainly so things wouldn’t bounce around during movement…
Otherwise, tomorrow’s school headline might be:
[Female Student Runs Braless at Sports Festival, Is This the Fall of Morality or…]
Even if they were still just “small buns,” they were still buns, after all.
“Wait, I think my bra is with Lin Yi?”
An Han suddenly remembered where it went. After the comic convention ended, he had changed out of the cheongsam and stuffed the bra together with it in his backpack, which Su Peng later gave to Lin Yi.
“Bang!”
A gunshot sounded in the distance, the signal for the race to start. An Han instinctively looked up and saw Su Peng running at the very front like a leader of the pack.
“Who starts a 3000-meter race running that fast?”
He muttered to himself, worried that Su Peng might trip later and get hurt. If that happened, he’d have to find a new partner for the afternoon event.
Thinking that, he unconsciously walked closer to the track. Standing at the edge, he tiptoed and craned his neck to watch Su Peng still leading far ahead.
“Hey! Slow down! Don’t fall!” He shouted when Su Peng passed by him.
Su Peng raised a hand, gave him a thumbs-up, and flashed him a grin.
“Show-off! Watch where you’re going!” she yelled.
One lap, two laps, five laps…
Su Peng was still the fastest, but there were five or six others close behind, he hadn’t widened the gap much.
“Su Peng’s pretty good, huh? Running that fast.”
Chen Junjie somehow appeared beside An Han, arms crossed, clicking his tongue in amazement.
“At that pace, I’d collapse after three laps.”
“That’s because you’re useless,” An Han said with open disdain.
“Hey, you’re extra aggressive today… but yeah, I am useless!”
“……”
Chen Junjie’s shamelessly proud face left An Han speechless. His desire to argue just disappeared. He simply stepped farther away from him, keeping his distance.
Then Long Xing came over slowly, yawning, looking like he had just woken up.
He was holding a pink thermos cup, and even though many people glanced at it when walking by, he didn’t feel embarrassed at all. His face was thick enough to block bullets.
Just seeing that thermos made An Han feel embarrassed for him. He was afraid someone would ask Long Xing about it again, and he would proudly say, “My girlfriend gave it to me.”
An Han turned his gaze back to the track.
“How many laps do they have to run?” he asked casually.
Long Xing answered, “Seven and a half. The school track is four hundred meters long.”
“Looks like it’s the sixth lap already…”
An Han noticed that by the sixth lap, Su Peng was running out of energy. His speed was clearly slowing down. The runners who had been right behind him in the leading group were now passing him one by one.
“So why did he run so fast at the beginning?”
As he looked into the distance, Su Peng happened to turn his head. Their eyes met for a brief moment from a hundred meters away. Then, Su Peng forced himself to speed up again, trying to catch up to the people in front.
“Wow, Su Peng’s amazing. He’s keeping up with the sports students!” Chen Junjie said in surprise.
But An Han seemed to realize what was really going on.
That guy… he just wanted to show off in front of the person he likes!
Men are all like that, whenever they know the girl they like is watching, they suddenly want to perform their best, even if most of the time it just backfires. And the person he likes… was clearly me.
An Han covered his face, speechless. At first, he had been worried Su Peng might fall, but now he was more afraid that Su Peng would win first place and then confess in front of everyone.
“Su Peng! Su Peng!”
During the final lap, classmates gathered around to run with Su Peng. The girls shouted his name and tried to hand him water from outside the track.
Chen Junjie and Long Xing also joined the group running alongside him. After hesitating for a moment, An Han jogged forward too. Half the class was there, and it would look weird if he didn’t join.
He sped up, squeezed past a few fangirls, and ran next to Su Peng on the inner lane, keeping a blank face.
“Slow down a bit. Don’t fall,” An Han said softly.
Su Peng couldn’t even speak. His throat felt like it was burning, and he wiped sweat from his face with the towel hanging around his neck. His legs were so sore they could barely lift anymore.
“Want some water?” An Han asked.
Su Peng shook his head weakly. Half his attention was on the track, and the other half on An Han’s worried expression.
“We’re almost there.”
The cheers and shouts from classmates were loud all around him, but none of them gave him as much strength as An Han’s quiet, gentle voice.
Finally, he crossed the finish line for the 3000 meters. The tension in his muscles disappeared all at once, and his whole body collapsed like he had no bones left.
But a slender shoulder suddenly came into view, supporting him just enough to stop him from falling completely. He half-opened his eyes and saw that familiar face, lips pressed tight, so close to his own.
An Han’s legs trembled slightly. At barely a hundred pounds, it was hard for him to hold up Su Peng’s exhausted body, but he still spoke through clenched teeth. “You can’t rest right after a long run.”
“You got sixth place!”
“Nice job!”
Their classmates were cheering excitedly.
An Han, face dark, turned and shouted, “Can someone come here?! I can’t hold him up anymore!”
[Su Peng’s affection toward you +2]
Damn it! I knew this would happen!
