Chapter 128: Fox Spirit?
“Su Peng’s mind is actually pretty pure, not a single dirty thought.”
“It’s probably because the atmosphere wasn’t romantic, and I’m all wrapped up tightly anyway. If he still thought of something weird in this situation, then that would mean he’s a total pervert.”
“Damn it! How dare he keep calling me his wife in his heart!”
When An Han came back to Su Peng’s side after changing her sanitary pad, a system message popped up, the mind-reading effect had ended.
She didn’t plan to keep using it anyway, though she did feel a little disappointed that she hadn’t heard any juicy secrets.
Su Peng, on the other hand, seemed to be in a really good mood. He kept sneaking glances at An Han, his smile growing wider each time.
What’s wrong with this guy?
An Han felt something was off. The way he was looking at her made her uncomfortable, like his gaze could see right through her. She crossed her arms in front of her chest nervously, trying to hide the slight curves there, and frowned.
Did I miss something?
Oh right, the side effect!
Knowing how this system works, the mind-reading skill definitely must have some side effects she hadn’t noticed yet.
But so far, her body felt completely normal. Her thoughts were clear, her emotions calm. No strange feverish feelings, no “weird reactions” anywhere on her body.
Well, except for the fact that she was bleeding a bit more than usual…
“The last event’s starting,” Su Peng said, looking toward the track.
The sky was getting darker. It was already 5 p.m., and the main event of the sports festival was about to begin.
Earlier, there had only been a few scattered students on the field, but now hundreds of people had gathered by the track, cheering for the teachers who were getting ready to compete.
An Han followed Su Peng’s gaze but could only see a bunch of backs and heads in front of her.
She stood on her tiptoes, trying to look over the crowd, when Su Peng said, “Our counselor’s in this one too and the PE teacher.”
“Ren Chi’s joining? The PE teacher?” An Han looked surprised. “With that big belly of his, can he even run?”
The main event was the teachers’ fun sports competition. Things like three-legged races, tug-of-war, ping-pong relays, and musical chairs. The activities weren’t too difficult, but every year, students most enjoyed watching their teachers make fools of themselves.
Because of her short height, An Han couldn’t see anything in the crowd and started hopping up and down anxiously.
“How about I lift you up?” Su Peng offered.
“No way.”
She gave him a suspicious look, she couldn’t shake the feeling that this guy was acting even more forward than usual.
Could the side effect of the mind-reading skill be affecting him instead of her?
The competition started.
The crowd roared with excitement, and An Han immediately forgot about the side effects. She tiptoed again, stretching her neck to see what was happening.
Su Peng’s eyes, however, fell on her delicate, slender neck, and then lower. From his higher angle, he could just barely see the outline of her smooth, fair collarbone.
“So annoying. I’m going to the bleachers,” An Han said impatiently.
Losing patience, she pushed her way out of the crowd and ran toward the stands at the edge of the field.
If she missed Ren Chi’s embarrassing moment, that would be a real loss.
Su Peng followed her with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
He had been worried before, afraid his family might not accept An Han because of her “gender.” But maybe it was fate, or maybe just instinct, because somehow, he could hear An Han’s thoughts faintly.
An Han was a girl!
Her mood swings today were just because she was on her period.
If only he had known earlier, he would’ve made a move long ago, instead of holding back and worrying about everything!
No wonder An Han kept wanting to move out of the dorm.
What he couldn’t understand was… how did she, as a girl, manage to live in a boys’ dormitory for two whole years without anyone noticing?
Putting himself in her shoes, Su Peng suddenly realized how much fear and anxiety she must’ve lived with, constantly worried about being found out, day after day.
“Su Peng! Su Peng!”
Su Peng heard An Han shouting and quickly looked up.
“What’s wrong?”
“Ren Chi fell! He fell flat on his face!”
An Han laughed gloatingly, grabbing the corner of Su Peng’s shirt without thinking, leaning forward to get a clearer look.
“He kept forcing me to join the competition, but look at him, he’s not any better!”
“Wait, I should take a picture!”
She quickly reached for her phone, but before she could take a photo, Ren Chi had already stood up and waved off the students trying to help him.
“What a shame.”
Just then, she suddenly felt a pair of eyes on her. When she turned her head, her confused gaze met Su Peng’s warm, gentle eyes, filled with affection.
Her cheeks instantly burned red, like fire spreading under her skin. She glared at him in embarrassment and quickly looked away.
“Watch the game! Why are you looking at me?”
“You look better than the game.”
“Hss—!” An Han took a sharp breath.
That was such a cheesy pickup line, the kind of thing she’d normally find embarrassing just reading online. But now, her face only grew hotter.
I can’t stay here anymore! Damn it!
Why is Su Peng suddenly acting so bold and flirty after I used mind reading on him?!
Wasn’t this guy supposed to be the shy, passive type?!
She quickly stood up and left the bleachers, not even glancing back at the teachers’ competition.
“I’m going to the cafeteria!” she shouted while waving her hand behind her.
“I’ll come too.”
“I don’t want to eat with you!”
This is bad! What exactly is the side effect of the mind-reading skill?!
An Han hurriedly walked away from Su Peng, but after a few steps, a sudden thought hit her.
When she used the mind-reading skill, it felt like something was being taken out of her body…
Then she realized something, that skill clearly counted as magic.
“System?”
[To use Mind Reading, you need male hormones, which are absorbed through physical contact with men.]
An Han froze, staring blankly at the words on the screen.
A few seconds later, her eyes widened in shock as she finally understood.
“What the hell?! Isn’t that basically what a fox spirit does?!”
So instead of “draining life energy,” now it’s “absorbing hormones”, and that’s supposed to sound more scientific?!
So that’s the trick! No wonder the so-called “magical” system didn’t require any kind of mana!
At least she lived in the boys’ dorm, there was no shortage of male hormones around.
She took a step forward but suddenly felt her head being pulled to the side, her feet stumbling as she veered off course.
When she looked up, she realized she had almost walked straight into a huge electric pole. Turning back, she saw Su Peng withdrawing his hand.
“What fox spirit? You?” he asked.
She was about to thank him for pulling her away, but as soon as she heard his words, her face turned bright red.
“None of your business! Stop following me!”
She waved her arms wildly and shoved him aside, then rushed toward the cafeteria, still fuming.
“Hey, wait! Watch out!” Su Peng shouted.
But before he could finish, An Han bumped straight into a passerby, a man easily over 200 pounds, and fell backward onto the ground, while the confused stranger looked around, not even realizing what had just happened.
