Chapter 316: Itchy After Seven Years?
Lin Yibai was the kind of girl who didn’t spend money carelessly.
Most of her income went toward daily expenses and on Xia Changyu.
Now she was just asking to borrow a bit of money.
Well… “borrow”? Forget that word.
Even though Lin Yibai seriously said she would pay him back, Xia Changyu never expected her to. Besides, it wasn’t like she wanted to waste money on something useless.
She was using the money to sign up for a training course for the civil service interview, something serious and important. So what’s wrong with spending money on something meaningful?
Xia Changyu couldn’t help but hug her tightly. Then, with a pleased smile, he said, “Don’t worry! I’ll help you find the best training school. You don’t need to worry about the money.”
Lin Yibai tried to push him away, but couldn’t. She gave up struggling and mumbled, “Then I’ll leave it to you. Once I pass and get the job, I’ll definitely thank you properly.”
Xia Changyu looked curious and asked, “How will you thank me?”
Lin Yibai shrugged, “How else? I’ll cook you a big meal. Sound good?”
Xia Changyu burst out laughing, “Sure, sure, sounds great!”
No need to overthink it or make it sound romantic. Just having a meal she cooked herself, what could be better?
Lin Yibai wasn’t like other girls. In many ways, Xia Changyu already had her whole heart. But somehow he still didn’t feel satisfied.
He wanted more. Love isn’t something that ends. It’s not just about young love anymore. He wanted to spend a whole lifetime with this girl.
It wasn’t about chasing new feelings or falling for someone else.
Just thinking of Lin Yibai wasn't just pleasant. It was a deep source of his happiness.
The more he thought about it, the more he longed for it. He couldn’t help asking, “What do you think life will be like for us after we get married?”
Lin Yibai sighed and said softly, “I think you shouldn’t dream too much. Life isn’t just about sweet love, it’s also about reality and daily struggles. Who knows, we might even experience those inevitable bumps after a few years.”
Xia Changyu chuckled, “Those bumps? I think it’s more likely that after a few years, we won’t have any bumps at all. You see, there’s nothing that can stop my love for you.”
Lin Yibai said, “Hey!! When did you get so cheeky?”
Xia Changyu smiled like a fool. With all the feelings in his heart, he just said one thing. “Haven't I always been like this when it's just the two of us?”
Lin Yibai snorted, “But don’t get too happy too soon. Sure, we’re dating now, but some things aren’t fully confirmed yet!”
Lin Yibai: “Hmph!”
Xia Changyu: “!!”
Wait, what do you mean, “not fully confirmed”?
You’re already mine, we’ve even done this and that and something else!
We're pretty much like a married couple already!
Still, if he got lazy or stopped caring, there’s always a chance he could lose her…
No more words. Just hold on tight and never let go.
The next day, Xia Changyu immediately signed Lin Yibai up for the training class. A month should be enough, right?
Two big rules for civil service exams:
Rule 1: Never act like you’ve already won before it’s truly over.
Rule 2: Never share your personal info with others.
Everyone attending the training had already passed the written test and made it to the interview stage. In other words, they could be your future competition.
After all, government jobs are very stable and valuable. So it’s smart to be careful around others.
In real life, it’s not rare for people to report their competition after the interview.
During breaks in class, many students were chatting and sharing information.
In the eyes of some young people, this kind of situation was a great chance to make connections, and they really enjoyed doing it.
Because Lin Yibai was a pretty girl, of course she got approached.
“Hi, you must be Miss Lin, right? I’m Sun Wanjun. I think we’re both here for the same round of the provincial civil service interviews. Who knows, we might even become coworkers in the future!”
Lin Yibai gave a polite smile and replied, “You’re too kind. Nothing is certain yet.”
Sun Wanjun laughed and said, “I made a group chat. Why don’t you join, Miss Lin? You know, having more friends can open more doors in life.”
Lin Yibai raised an eyebrow. “A group chat?”
Sun Wanjun added, “Yes, and when you join, please change your name in the group to the area and job position you applied for.”
Lin Yibai: “......”
Are there really people that silly who would actually join?
If everyone here were truly going to be coworkers, joining a group chat wouldn’t be a problem. But right now, many people here are still your competitors, both openly and secretly.
Just like Sun Wanjun said, everyone here had passed the written test and made it to the interview round. Sure, some of them might become future colleagues, but isn’t that still uncertain?
To her surprise, quite a few people had already joined the chat.
Forget it. That’s their business.
Lin Yibai didn’t want to get involved, so she politely declined, “Sorry, but I’d rather not join the group.”
Sun Wanjun’s face turned colder, and he gave a fake smile. “Haha, it’s fine, really… I just thought it could help us all build connections… No worries if you don’t want to join, hehe.”
Are there really people trying to build "connections" in a place like this?
Maybe. Possibly. Who knows?
After just a few days, small groups had already formed. Some were calling each other “future director” or “future manager,” and enjoying a quick moment of happiness.
Lin Yibai frowned with concern. Would some of these people really become her coworkers in the future?
Even if she passed the test, would she still have to deal with all this “networking” stuff?
Some people were focused on building connections. Others were focused on preparing seriously.
Among them, Lin Yibai definitely stood out. Unlike Sun Wanjun and his type, there were still quite a few people who were careful and hardworking.
A woman in her thirties, wearing thick glasses, walked over and asked carefully, “Excuse me, little sister… is this your second time taking the exam? And you made it to the interview both times?”
In civil service terms, “second time” means a person failed once and is trying again.
Lin Yibai looked at her cautiously. The woman quickly waved her hands, “Oh no, don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean anything bad. This is my fourth try, I’ve made it to interviews twice. I just thought your interview performance was really good, and I wanted to ask if you had any tips?”
Fourth try? Poor woman.
Then again, technically speaking, Lin Yibai was also taking her second try. She understood how tough these exams could be.
Even though the woman was a possible competitor, Lin Yibai still felt a bit sorry for her. So she replied, “There’s no real secret. Before applying, I chose a human resources position on purpose. I’ve seen many types of interviewees. I just paid attention to their strengths and weaknesses.”
She had experience being on the interview panel herself. She knew exactly what kind of people interviewers didn’t like. So she just avoided those mistakes.
The woman nodded. She clearly wanted to ask more, like whether Lin Yibai was applying for the same job. But Lin Yibai had already shared enough.
Asking more would be rude, right?
Watching the woman walk away gave off a slightly sad feeling. Lin Yibai shivered a bit and made a silent promise to herself.
“This time, I have to pass.”
No third try.
No fourth try.
The first try must be the final try. Got it?
