Xia Changyu, her “strategist” boyfriend, patted his chest confidently and said, “They mostly just check if you have any criminal record and ask people around you about your background. If nothing unexpected happens, you should be fine.”

All of her hard work had finally paid off. The huge pressure on her shoulders disappeared. She no longer felt like someone with no direction in life, stuck in a job without knowing if there was a future.

Now, she looked at someone beside her.
She took a deep breath and said quietly, “I really have to thank you for taking care of me during this time. So… tell me! Do you have a wish? If it’s something I can do, I’ll make it happen for you.”

A crime? What kind of crime?

She immediately denied it, “My parents are honest people, they’d never break the law! What? That person said it was one of my ancestors, so they mean my grandparents?”

Lin Yibai asked, “Didn’t second uncle also go through a background check for his job? How did he pass then?”
Her dad muttered, “Your second uncle just works at a small local office. The checks there aren’t as strict as for your provincial-level job. Sigh…”
As he sighed—
“Ring ring~” His phone rang.
After answering the call, his face changed, “Oh no, the background check officers already went to the village, and it sounds like they had a fight with your grandma.”

This is bad! Everyone quickly got into Xia Changyu’s car and rushed to the small village.
As soon as they got out of the car, they heard Grandma’s voice, angrily yelling.

Lin Yibai felt a headache coming. “Grandma, please don’t…”
