Chapter 324: Can the Balloons Really Stop It?
Once you start working, it’s like falling into a deep sea, you can’t get out so easily!
Being a government worker isn’t as relaxing as some people think, but it’s also not super tiring.
The pay isn’t very high, but it’s also not low.
For a city like Fucheng, Lin Yibai earns about 7,000 yuan a month right now. After one or two years of work, earning over 10,000 yuan a month should be easy.
That’s just average in big coastal cities. But one thing’s for sure, the benefits are really good!
Transporting allowance, meal allowance, housing allowance, insurance…
If Lin Yibai didn’t already have a boyfriend, this would be the dream life for many single people.
And most importantly, this job brings respect.
As someone who works for the provincial government, she often travels with her team to city and county offices for work.
One time, before she even arrived at a county office, people there had already set up two big tables for a banquet.
She got so scared that she turned around and ran away, telling her coworkers.
“Don’t drag me into this! I’m not even officially a worker yet! If anything goes wrong, we might all lose our jobs!”
Her coworker gave an awkward laugh. She knew they might have to attend social dinners, but she didn’t expect this kind of big welcome from the local staff.
Of course, no one expected Lin Yibai to drink or deal with all that. After all, they had worked with too many strange or difficult female colleagues before, and it wasn’t easy to find someone like her who’s actually normal and reliable.
They wanted to protect her, not scare her away!
You could say that things at work were going smoothly. If nothing big happens, this job will probably be her life for the next few decades. You can basically see the end from the beginning.
But Lin Yibai didn’t mind. After all, not everyone wants to keep saying “I must work hard” all the time.
She had already learned how things work in this system.
Unless you’re someone who really wants to climb the ladder, there’s actually not that much pressure in this kind of government job.
She had a clear sense of right and wrong. She just did her own job well and never judged other women for how they worked.
Even though the office was only about 100 square meters, she knew she might be working with the same people for decades, so keeping good relationships was important.
This wasn’t about giving in to others. It was just about trying your best to be a good person.
Because of this, she got along well with both male and female coworkers. Too bad she already had a boyfriend, which crushed the hopes of some older single guys in the office.
A bright afternoon.
Across the street from the provincial government building, there was a nice little coffee shop.
Xia Changyu was sitting there, enjoying his drink. Next to him was his friend.
Xia Changyu said proudly. “Wang Ming, believe me, my girlfriend is the best girl in the world. I’m only letting you see her because we’re such close friends.”
But from the look in his eyes, it was obvious that Xia Changyu was just showing off.
Wang Ming became very curious. He knew very well how picky Xia Changyu was, and now he actually found a girl he liked?
Not long after, a tall, slim, elegant girl walked out from the government building across the street.
She was wearing a black suit and small-heeled shoes. Even though her long hair was tied in a simple ponytail showing her forehead, she still looked very beautiful.
Wang Ming was amazed, “Wow, what a pretty girl.”
And when she got closer, he noticed a tiny government badge on her chest.
Her confidence and overall vibe made him wonder, ‘Are all the girls who work in the government this pretty?’
Just one look, and Wang Ming suddenly felt like he also wanted to find a girlfriend who worked in the government. But he quickly pushed that thought away.
Because his reason told him, not every girl is like her.
“Changyu, you...” Lin Yibai was just about to say something when she noticed someone next to him. She immediately changed her words and asked, “Oh? Who’s this?”
Xia Changyu introduced him. “He’s my friend.”
Lin Yibai politely said, “Nice to meet you.”
Wang Ming quickly replied, “Ahaha, nice to meet you too! You really are even better than I imagined!”
Lin Yibai joked, “Changyu isn’t saying bad things about me behind my back, is he?”
Wang Ming waved his hands quickly and explained, “No, no! Not at all! Changyu talks about how great you are all the time!”
The three of them chatted for a bit. Unfortunately, the weather turned bad, thunder started rumbling, and it looked like it was going to rain hard soon.
Lately, Xia Changyu had been traveling a lot for work. Even today, it wasn’t clear if he would stay in Fucheng or not.
So, Lin Yibai made a suggestion, “You two probably haven’t had a proper catch-up in a while, right? So... I mean, if you both are free tonight, how about you come over and try my cooking?”
Xia Changyu was surprised for a second. Then he realized he really had been busy and traveling a lot recently.
As his best friend, Wang Ming added at the right time. “I’m just saying, you’re working so hard, but don’t become like your dad, always traveling for work for months. Your mom might not say anything, but you know she’s not happy about it. Family is the most important.”
Xia Changyu gave a bitter smile. It was because he didn’t want to become like his dad that he tried so hard to change things by running around everywhere.
But somehow, he had ended up doing exactly the same thing, away from home for too long.
Fine, he’ll stay.
Rumble rumble...
Thunder rolled as Lin Yibai frowned and looked at the dark sky.
She quickly took a thermos cup from her bag and put it into Xia Changyu’s hands.
Then she said in a mysterious tone. “This tea comes from our deputy director’s private collection. It was hard for me to get even two packs. Drink some on your way back.”
This was the best thing she had managed to get her hands on. But just thinking of Xia Changyu made her want to share it with him.
Then, as if she suddenly remembered something, Lin Yibai gave him a meaningful look, leaned close to his ear, and whispered with a bit of worry.
“It’s about... that thing.”
Xia Changyu was confused. “What thing?”
Lin Yibai lowered her voice even more.
“Well, if you’re staying in Fucheng tonight... umm... I think I might be in my dangerous days right now. So... maybe you should pick up a box of balloons on your way?”
D-dangerous days?
It took Xia Changyu a moment to realize what exactly the balloons were meant to prevent.
Of course, he was completely unwilling in his heart. In fact, he secretly wished Lin Yibai would just get pregnant already, so he wouldn’t have to worry about someone stealing his wife someday.
Still Xia Changyu suddenly became curious. In a low voice, he asked, “One box... is that enough?”
Well, since Lin Yibai brought it up, he guessed he might as well go buy a box on the way.
Lin Yibai’s beautiful eyes widened.
‘One box? Was that really enough?’
She couldn’t help glancing at him and whispered, “You’re bold... What kind of question is that? Shouldn’t you be the one to know whether one box is enough?”
Xia Changyu: “???”
Lin Yibai had actually sneaked out of work to take a short break. She still had things to take care of, so she said,
“Anyway, it’s up to you! If one box isn’t enough, then forget about stopping anything. I want to see if you have enough energy for me tonight~”
At that moment, Xia Changyu’s heart burst into flames. Did you hear that??
No more balloons?
Can’t stop it?
Then we won’t stop it!
