Volume 1 Chapter 29: The Evening Study Battlefield
So it turned out he was talking about tutoring.
Lin Lin nodded with a serious face.
“Yes. Actually, I was also talking about tutoring just now. Ahem. I thought about it, if we go to your house, your parents might misunderstand. If we go to my house, my parents might misunderstand. If we do it in the classroom, our classmates might misunderstand.”
“So… because you thought my plan would cause misunderstandings, you decided to crash into me head-first?”
D-do you really hate me that much?
It felt like the little vampire girl’s analysis might not be very accurate after all.
Gao Liang wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at Lin Lin with doubt. Lin Lin, however, stayed calm and spoke without changing her expression, except that her legs were shaking badly from lying.
“Yes. Because I am a pure and virtuous woman, and I care a lot about my reputation.”
Hmm…
Gao Liang glanced at the slightly trembling legs under Lin Lin’s long skirt.
So Lin Lin is actually very conservative?
“Then where do you think we should do the tutoring?”
“Uh…”
Lin Lin was stuck. She had never planned to ask Gao Liang for tutoring in the first place. No matter what, she never thought there would come a day when she had to beg her sworn enemy for help.
After thinking for a while, she finally said, “How about… the classroom?”
“Uh… but didn’t you just say you were afraid people would misunderstand if it’s in the classroom?”
Gao Liang looked at her in confusion. Lin Lin could only lower her head and explain awkwardly.
“Well, um, that kind of thing isn’t that bad. In the classroom, we’re desk mates anyway. Desk mates asking questions shouldn’t attract too much attention. We’ll just keep our voices low.”
Most importantly…
There are more people in the classroom. Staying there feels… a bit safer.
“Alright then. Let’s do it during evening study tonight. First, look at which questions you don’t understand, and bring them to ask me.”
“Okay!”
The girl nodded quickly. Just as she was feeling relieved that the problem was finally solved, suddenly—
“Hey, wait… hasn’t the first class already started?”
Gao Liang suddenly looked at Lin Lin.
Uh…
Lin Lin nodded.
And so…
She had once again successfully dragged her sworn enemy down with her and made him late for class for the first time ever.
Win!
………………
The school day passed quickly. During the lessons, Gao Liang would occasionally glance at the girl sitting next to him.
Then he saw her holding her phone.
Uh…
The corner of his mouth twitched, but soon Gao Liang noticed something strange.
It seemed different from what he had imagined. The girl was holding her phone while carefully organizing example questions one by one from a thick Math book.
She was really serious.
A serious little kitty, hehe.
Though… that “meow” earlier didn’t sound very cute.
So, with the girl working hard all day, and her sworn-enemy desk mate watching her from time to time, night finally came.
The evening self-study atmosphere for high school students also depends on the class.
A class like Lin Lin’s was not a top class, but the grades were not bad either.
So it wasn’t very quiet, but not very noisy either, just right. Talking about study was not strange, as long as you kept your voice low.
When the evening study bell rang, Lin Lin shook her wrist that was holding a pen, then snap! slapped the Math book with the marked questions onto Gao Liang’s desk, and looked at him with a strangely confident expression.
“I’ve marked all the questions. Explain them to me one by one.”
For some reason, even though she was asking for help, her tone was very firm.
Maybe it was her strange pride acting up. Gao Liang smiled, took the book, and asked quietly,
“What range? What kind of knowledge points are these questions testing?”
“Uh…”
Lin Lin froze for a moment, then said awkwardly, “A-all of them?”
“What, are you taking this year’s college entrance exam? Oh, you already took it…”
Gao Liang sighed. He couldn’t understand what the girl was thinking, but by now he was almost sure she was just acting on a sudden impulse, just playing around.
After all, learning all areas of college-exam math in just a few hours? Forget it.
If she were really that smart, would she need to ask him for tutoring?
He would just teach as many questions as he could.
He nodded, pointed to one question, and started explaining.
Lin Lin, sitting beside him, first swallowed a blue capsule, took a sip of water, then leaned over Gao Liang’s desk and listened seriously.
But before Gao Liang could explain much, some… not very pleasant sounds suddenly reached his ears.
“Eh? Look over there, look over there. Gao Liang is tutoring his desk mate.”
A girl’s voice suddenly spoke up.
“Eh? It really looks like it. His desk mate is even leaning on his desk!”
Sharp looks immediately focused on Lin Lin.
“That girl… didn’t she beg a lot of people for tutoring this morning? No one agreed. How did she end up hooking up with Gao Liang…”
“Tch, just using her desk-mate status. You really think Gao Liang wants to deal with her?”
The strange discussions around them made Lin Lin shiver. She looked around in panic.
The classroom quieted down a bit, but soon the whispers started again.
Some people were just gossiping, but others seemed to be doing it on purpose, even raising their voices.
“Eh~ it’s Gao Liang we’re talking about. Wouldn’t he teach anyone who asks him questions? That’s normal. It’s just that his desk mate suddenly went a bit crazy.”
“Tsk tsk… do you think she’s doing this on purpose to get closer to him? They’re sitting so close~”
“Maybe all that drama during the day was just to get attention? After all, that girl is… tsk tsk, such an actress.”
Han Kui rolled her eyes in disdain. The girls next to her laughed, but Lin Lin didn’t understand what was funny at all. She only felt scared and uneasy. She quietly moved her chair a bit farther away, trying to stay as far from Gao Liang as possible.
Her expression turned bad, her face slowly showing hurt and grievance. But she had already used the blue capsule, there was no turning back now…
Still, if she stayed here…
Lin Lin lowered her head helplessly, burying it low, hoping the gossip would stop soon.
Then, suddenly—
Gao Liang stood up at once, grabbed Lin Lin’s hand, shot an unhappy look at Han Kui, then took Lin Lin and the books and walked straight out of the classroom.
Lin Lin froze. By the time she reacted, she had already been pulled quite a distance out of the classroom by her sworn enemy.
“Where… are we going?”
The girl asked nervously. Walking in front, Gao Liang answered calmly,
“Let’s find an empty classroom. The classroom is too noisy.”
“Mm…”
The girl nodded.
An empty classroom… huh?
