Chapter 173: One of Life’s Three Great Illusions

Did I… actually get away with it?

An Han sat back down in her seat, resting her chin in her hands as she stared blankly at the computer screen.

At least Long Xing didn’t keep questioning her.

She wanted to relax and focus on watching Wang Sheng’s match through the livestream, but then another thought struck her.

The underwear must have been seen. So why didn’t Long Xing ask her about it? If he had asked, the only way she could’ve explained it would be by admitting she was some kind of pervert!

But instead, it felt like Long Xing had deliberately chosen to save her some dignity...

An Han’s attention completely drifted away from the match. She turned slightly, looking at Long Xing behind her, and a bold idea popped into her mind.

Maybe Long Xing had already figured out, one way or another, that she was a girl.

Should she try to come up with some excuse to deny it, or just quietly accept that he believed that?

But with such a pretty face, no matter how she tried to argue, it wouldn’t sound convincing.

Even though her looks could still be improved a little according to the system’s “appearance attribute,” her facial features and contours already showed no trace of her former male self.

Not to mention, she now had a small A-cup chest, long legs like a manga heroine, and a slim, graceful body...

“Well, it’s fine,” she murmured to herself. “Brother Long’s affection for me already went down.”

An Han checked Long Xing’s affection level again and finally felt relieved.

Even though he’d seen her dressed as a girl again and probably confirmed her true gender, his affection had only gone up by two points, not the sudden jump she feared.

Thank goodness~

At least she didn’t have to worry about being caught in some messy love drama.

Dealing with Su Peng, who looked gentle on the outside but was controlling on the inside, was already tiring enough. If she had to deal with another one, a tall muscular “gangster-type” guy like Long Xing, she might as well just drop out of school.

“When’s Wang Sheng’s final match?” An Han asked casually, trying to sound normal.

“This is the final,” Long Xing replied. “The matches in the afternoon and evening are for other games.”

An Han blinked in surprise, then nodded and turned her eyes back to the screen.

The e-sports club had actually done a decent job, the livestream looked surprisingly professional. The main screen showed the in-game footage, while a small box in the lower left displayed the players and the live audience.

There was even a commentator speaking nonstop about the game. An Han didn’t understand much of what he said, but all the usual elements of a proper gaming event were there.

“Looks like it’s almost over,” she muttered.

FPS games were probably the easiest kind to watch. Even though she had only played twice on Wang Sheng’s computer and was still a total beginner, she could at least follow what was happening.

MOBA games, on the other hand, were different. You had to know each hero’s abilities, or else all those flashy skills flying around would just make your head spin without understanding a thing.

Resting her chin on her palm, An Han watched with mild interest, though her mood was still uneasy. From time to time, she glanced at the computer’s clock in the corner, then checked her Alipay on her phone.

“Why hasn’t the money come yet…” she grumbled under her breath.

The system had promised her “unexpected wealth.” It was super fast when it came to changing her body, but when it came to giving her money, it suddenly liked to take its time.

Then her eyelid twitched, and she suddenly realized something.

If Wang Sheng won the championship and gave her his prize money… Wouldn’t that count as “unexpected wealth”?

“Huh? No way… so that’s the trick?”

“Hey! Wang Sheng just got a triple kill!” Long Xing suddenly shouted excitedly. “He’s really gonna win the championship!”

“What?!”

An Han finally focused on the scoreboard and saw that Wang Sheng’s team only needed to win one more round to take the victory.

Now she was almost certain, the “unexpected fortune” reward from that stupid system must be Wang Sheng’s prize money!

That’s too much! She didn’t even want it in the first place!

Wang Sheng was only giving her the prize money because Su Peng told him to, which basically meant she was taking money straight out of Su Peng’s pocket.

After going in circles and doing all this nonsense, she might as well have just borrowed money from Su Peng directly!

“Hey, Xiao Han, want to go watch the match in person?” Long Xing asked excitedly. Even though it was only a small school event with just seven or eight teams, he was still thrilled that Wang Sheng might win.

“Sure, why not.”

An Han sighed and nodded.

Once she got the money and moved out, she’d probably have less contact with her roommates. They had lived together for two years, and even though she was eager to leave, she still felt a little emotional about it.

“Brother Long, want to plan a surprise for Wang Sheng?” she suggested as they walked out into the hallway. “How about making a banner?”

“A banner?”

Long Xing looked back at her, only to see a mischievous grin spreading across her face.

“Let’s go to an ad shop outside school. Red background, white letters, ten meters long! It’ll say: ‘Congratulations to Wang Sheng and Wang Yu for leading their team to win the 2021 Campus Esports Cup Championship!’ How’s that sound?”

That’s what you get for letting Su Peng bribe you! I’ll make sure you get roasted at school!

Long Xing froze for a moment, then grinned widely, showing a mouthful of white teeth. “How about we also take this chance to help Wang Sheng find a girlfriend?”

Although An Han was surprised he’d actually go along with her prank, her smile turned even more devilish and sweet.

“I’ve got an even better idea,” she said. “Let’s write: ‘2021 Campus Esports Cup Champion Captain Wang Sheng, Looking for a Wife Online!’ And then we’ll borrow a loudspeaker to play it on repeat under the banner!”

“Won’t Wang Sheng get mad?” Long Xing asked, a bit uneasy. He was the type who usually avoided trouble.

“If he gets mad, just say it was your idea.”

“Wang Sheng isn’t stupid.”

Obviously, it was her idea to “find a wife” for Wang Sheng!

Long Xing had been such a nice guy for so long that no one would ever suspect him of doing something bad. While An Han, who had been mischievous since childhood, was always the first one people blamed whenever something went wrong.

She used to take the blame for her little sister all the time.

An Han didn’t really care, though. She looked up at Long Xing and asked curiously, “Brother Long, why aren’t you stopping me this time?”

Normally, if he knew she was planning a prank, Long Xing would at least try to talk her out of it. But today, he was actually encouraging her.

His face turned a little sad, and he avoided her eyes. “You’re moving out soon, right? I just thought I’d go along with your craziness one last time…”

After all, they had been roommates for two years and he’d fallen for her three times.

If only he’d known she was a girl from the start…

He subconsciously tightened his grip on the pink thermos in his hand, full of regret.

That carefully chosen birthday gift from An Han had basically been a confession, but he’d been too dense and hesitant to act, and in the end, Su Peng had taken the chance instead.

An Han had no idea why his face kept changing expressions. She muttered while glancing at her phone, “How long does one match usually take?”

“About half an hour. If Wang Sheng loses this one, there’ll be one last match, so maybe an hour total.”

“Then we might not make it in time… I’ll go check outside the school! If it doesn’t work, I’ll just write it by hand!”

She took off running, light on her feet and full of excitement.

It had been a long time since she’d pulled a prank!
