Chapter 183: Meeting Again
An Han hopped and skipped through the maze-like alleys of the old town, carefully avoiding puddles of rainwater. Whenever she came across an open area without shelter, she would suddenly speed up and dash through.
After walking and stopping along the way, she had dinner at a small local restaurant. About twenty minutes later, she finally returned to her apartment.
Using her keycard to open the first-floor entrance, she patted the raindrops off her shoulders with a displeased face, yawning as she stepped inside.
So cold~
After getting caught in the rain, the cold-sensitive girl was now shivering even more. She began to run, hopping up the stairs with big movements, trying to warm herself up through motion.
“Home~ home~,” An Han mumbled softly as she hopped like a little rabbit.
But before she reached the third floor, her already pale face turned even whiter.
She froze in place and looked down at her feet, muttering, “I didn’t even get close to Su Peng… and I’m not wearing girl’s clothes… so why can’t I control it again…”
An Han patted her cheeks with both hands, cleared her throat lightly, and then continued walking upstairs with a calm expression and steady steps.
It was like someone who normally walked pigeon-toed, they could correct it if they paid attention, but once they stopped consciously adjusting, their natural habit would return.
Keeping up that kind of self-control was tiring. It meant constantly watching yourself and forcing every movement to look normal.
When she reached the fifth floor, she passed by Room 502 and subconsciously glanced at the door.
Su Peng had rented that room but hadn’t shown up since.
Ren Chi said he took sick leave, and even after several days, he still hadn’t gotten better…
As a friend, maybe she should check in or just a quick message online would do.
Thinking about it, she walked to her own room. Just as she opened the door to go in, she suddenly tilted her head slightly.
“Hm?”
She listened closely to the room next door. She thought she had just heard some footsteps, but now everything was silent again.
Too lazy to think more, she kicked the door next to hers. “Hey! You in there or not?”
“I’m coming, I’m coming.”
Sure enough, Su Peng’s voice came from inside. After a moment, the door opened, revealing his slightly tired face.
For some reason, the calm, even gloomy, mood she’d had all day suddenly lifted.
An Han looked up at him, staring blankly for a moment before asking in a strong, lively tone, “I heard you were sick? What happened?!”
Before Su Peng could answer, she kicked the half-open door wider and walked in boldly. “I’ve never been in your room before, it’s about the same as mine~”
“Oh, right! I won a prize! Did you hear? An iPhone 13!” An Han suddenly remembered, turned around, shoved her phone into Su Peng’s hand, and stood proudly with her hands on her hips, nose in the air as if she could float from pride. “Pretty amazing, huh! It costs over ten thousand on the official site, and I got it for just twenty yuan!”
“Did the doctor say you’re feeling better now?”
“You have no idea! Last night there were two drunks downstairs, so loud in the middle of the night I couldn’t sleep at all!”
She didn’t realize how talkative she was being, she didn’t even leave Su Peng a chance to respond.
Su Peng stared at her in surprise. He couldn’t recall ever seeing this side of her before. So lively, so cute, and a bit silly.
“You know what? Wang Sheng actually started dating someone and I’m the one who introduced them! If it weren’t for that dating post I helped him with—”
“Hold on, hold on.” Su Peng interrupted gently but helplessly, reaching out to rub her head. “Sit down first, then tell me slowly.”
An Han froze when she met Su Peng’s gaze and suddenly realized she might have acted too excited.
Why did she lose control and start talking nonstop the moment she saw him?!
His warm, gentle hand softly rubbed her head. She narrowed her eyes slightly, enjoying it for two seconds before her face changed. She quickly slapped his hand away and went to sit on a nearby chair, crossing one leg over the other.
But that confident act only lasted a moment. When her eyes met Su Peng’s again, she felt guilty and lowered her head, regretting her behavior.
I shouldn’t have knocked on his door!
Su Peng sat on the bed, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees, looking at her face.
“Start from the beginning,” he said.
“Uh… I won a prize. The phone’s in your hand.”
“No way! How can you be this lucky!” Although he had already heard the news, Su Peng still looked completely surprised, exaggerating his reaction. “You’re such a total luck goddess!”
“Hehe, not really~” An Han’s eyes curved into a smile as she looked at him. “I usually don’t have that much luck.”
She wasn’t sure if she was happy because she was sharing the good news, or because she got to see Su Peng’s funny, over-the-top reaction.
Su Peng held up his hand and looked at his palm very seriously. “I’ve decided, I’m not washing this hand for the rest of the week. It just touched the head of a lucky goddess!”
“Isn’t that too much?”
An Han couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore. Her shoulders trembled as she tried to suppress it, her eyes crinkling adorably.
She tried to act serious again, clearing her throat to break the playful mood. “So what kind of illness do you have? Why hasn’t it gotten better?”
“The flu. The contagious kind,” Su Peng said helplessly. “High fever, sore throat, no strength at all.”
“I thought it was just a normal fever at first, but I went to the hospital this afternoon and got some medicine.”
An Han looked at him. He didn’t really look sick, maybe just tired. But for a college student, that kind of tiredness usually just meant he’d stayed up too late again.
“Hmm… then I’d better go. You might infect me~”
She got up and pretended to leave, but when she reached the door, she turned back. “Why didn’t you ask me to hang out these past few days?”
Su Peng, who had just been joking a second ago, immediately panicked. The tone in her voice clearly sounded like she was questioning him.
“I was sick! No energy at all! And you said you’re only free on weekends… I mean, sometimes when I message you, you seem really busy and don’t have time to talk—”
An Han opened the door, cutting him off.
“Where are you going?” he asked nervously.
Was she mad? She couldn’t be that petty… right?
“I’m going downstairs to buy you dinner. You have to eat before taking medicine, don’t you?”
“I was just about to order delivery.”
“If you order now, it’ll take until at least 7:30 to arrive.”
“It’s raining outside.”
An Han picked up the umbrella Su Peng had left by the door. “There’s an umbrella, dummy!”
She stepped out of his room and pulled the door almost shut behind her, then let out a long sigh.
Sure enough, being with Su Peng made her happiest. She could feel that joy both inside and out, body and mind.
[Su Peng’s affection +1]
Looks like Su Peng feels the same way~
An Han had thought that her excitement around Su Peng was just because of the system’s influence, but now… it didn’t seem like that.
At least, the system had no reason to make her feel sad every time she hadn’t seen him for a while.
“That's terrifying…”
